  1. Goldwings may be the size of a Commodore, but they certainly aren't made by holden! ======>
  2. ^^^ There are far too many unfortunately...
  3. I hope it doesn't go as far as the current porsche. Hmmm... I want to change radio station... Let's have a look: AAAAAAAAAAARRRRRGGG!!!! IT'S ALL WAY TOO COMPLICATED!!! I don't want to have to pull over to the side of the road just to work out how to change radio station! Don't even get me started on BMW... Although all that technology does bring some entertainment    If Nissan can come up with an intuitive system of integrating lots of gadgets, then I am all for it. But if they follow in the footsteps of the Germans and make everything as deliberately complicated as possible, then I will be most disappointed .
  4. 4.5 litre V6? Where would they get such an engine? Sounds too big to be derived from the VQ engine series, and Renault's bean counters wouldn't allow Nissan to develop a 100% unique engine for a relatively low volume model like the GTR. I will beleive it if I see it, but until then I will not beleive your "reliable sources." 4.X litre V8 is beleivable, 3.X litre V6 is beleivable, 4.X litre V6 is not... Plus, at 4.5 litres, the pistons would be the same size as those in a six litre HSV Clubsport, and I seriously doubt you could get the revvy nature a GTR deserves reliably from such gigantic pistons.
  5. 280km/h in a GTS-T? For a stocker? I seriously doubt that! (EDIT: Or do you mean it is geared for 280km/h? In that case it is more beleivable and you are forgiven with my apologies!) On the serious side, I've heard around 250km/h mark is about right for the R32 GTR - the car may be geared for more (maybe 260-280km/h), but I don't think the stock car can pull redline in fifth.
  6. Yeah looks like a good deal, provided nothing is wrong with it of course! Ask why the previous owner is selling - that might give a clue to whether the car is dodgy or not. Otherwise it looks pretty sweet.
  7. Work out what you need from a car, then choose based on that. If you regularly have more than one passenger, then maybe the S14 is a bit too small. If you do a lot of highway kms, the larger R33 body may be a little more comfortable. The R33 would probably hold the cards over the other two in a straight line too, despite the extra weight (25% more capacity will do that ). If you want to drive like a nutcase, buy the S14 (and go join NS.com ). The R32 is probably between the two in character IMO. Don't work your lifestyle around your car - get a car to fit your lifestyle!!
  8. 50% power increase for $2k sounds pretty good! With the T56 and new twin plate clutch, the stock driveline should be able to handle it too! Dunno about the ZF 6 speed auto though... That's rated at 600nm max torque, and 300kw at the wheels would probably exceed that. Strengthening the transmission would add some to that $2k figure... The other problem is getting that power to the ground. From what I've heard most of the local performance models have more power than chassis already, without the 50% power boost.
  9. Infinitely more expensive than cutting your own springs, which comes to $0!!! With the low centre of gravity the car would handle fully sick! Seriously, though, what the hell? You're not actually considering doing it are you?
  10. Used R34 GTRs can be picked up for similar money to the FPV F6 Typhoon, making them competitors in the performance car market. Whether the Typhoon likes it or not, there will be performance car buyers that will cross-shop between these two cars based on price. 2002 R34 Skyline GTR $69990 drive away price, including 3 year warranty. Brand New 2005 FPV Typhoon $59810, does not include on road costs, includes 3 year warranty. When you take into account on road costs for the FPV F6 Typhoon, their prices would be about the same I think. Makes the GTR look like the bargain of the century! Until you see R32 GTRs going for under $20k. THAT is the bargain of the mellinium!
  11. New vs. New, the BF Typhoon would be a GTS-T competitor, not a GTR competitor, in both price and performance. It's only that the GTR is a few years older than the Typhoon that they compare on price (gotta love Japanese depreciation making cars affordable - screw resale!), but that doesn't mean they can compare on performance. The GTR is a legend.
  12. Non turbo's miss out on a lot of extra stuff the turbo's get, such as better brakes, better (5 stud) wheel and tyre package, LSD, usually higher equipment spec inside, etc. By the time you bring the car up to GTS-T, it will probably be a lot more than a turboe'd GTS.
  13. The hybrid thing is interesting... Toyota is developing a 550nm electric motor for future hybrids. There was a rumour that they were looking at putting this into WRC cars in a few years. Two in fact - one front, one rear, to give peak torque of 1100nm available from 0 rpm. Then the petrol engine kits in and gives EVEN MORE POWER (and torque). If Nissan can produce something like that for their GTR road car, THAT would rewrite pretty much every performance car rule book there is!
  14. Wow, that is some serious cross shopping. The F6 is like triple the price of a Yaris!
  15. It wouldn't suprise me to find out that your 100% standard GTR makes more power some GenIII's!!! "206kw" has to be a typo! Those early GenIIIs in the VT Series II were "only" making 220kw, and I'm sure many GTRs would match (or beat) that output stock. Reminds me of the old R34 GTR N1 vs. HSV GTS comparison in Wheels years ago... N1 ran mid 4's to 100km/h and mid 12's to 400m. "206kw" hahaha
  16. I think people originally bought import skylines for something different than the local aussie V8s that are going around. A skyline was something rare and special. Flash forward to today. I did a search on CarSales - Holden+V8 returned 78 dealer vehicles. Nissan+Skyline returned 143 dealer vehicles (only 9 of which were the old Aussie R31s). Buying an import is no longer "different," the local V8s are!!! Skylines don't have that charm of being a rare and different car anymore. Plus fuel costs, P-Plate laws, insurance, dickheads with keys in carparks, increased competition from other vehicle imports, the "skyline driver reputation," increasing police attention, increasing multinova population, increasing number of natatmo 4cyl neon&subbie equipped "racing cars" on the road (identified by their aerodynamic "enhancements" for high speed racing), increasing quality of the sub-$25k brand new car, and the housing boom (people spend on houses not cars) all have an effect too...
  17. Personally I'd rather an XR6 Turbo with 6 auto for $47k than an F6 Typhoon with 6 auto for $61k. There is only, what, 25kw between them? The price difference can buy a lot of aftermarket performance, both in terms of power and handling! THEN you can run with and defeat GTRs! Until they power up their car... Then you will lose again...
  18. I had a look on XR6 Turbo forums to see what their quickest Typhoon times were: 13.22 Pass XR6 Turbo forums 13.2 Pass XR6 Turbo Forums Magazines are running about 13.9 on average. Note that magazine times measure with a VBox or Corviet or other measuring equipment will always be slightly slower than strip times due to roll out. Those few inches before you trip the timing beams can be worth several tenths at the strip. Wheels or Motor (can't remember which) compared VBox 1/4 mile times of a Porsche 911 Turbo S, and that ran 11's on the strip, but could "only" manage a 12.2ish on their VBox. And no there wasn't a problem with the VBox! 0.7 seconds is too big of a different to attribute only to roll out though - the 13.2 must have been an exceptional run! I think with a rolling start a Typhoon would have a real shot at running down a stock GTR, but from a standing start the Typhoon just can't get the power down like a GTR
  19. The higher nickel content means 316 is also better than 304 at cryogenic temperatures... like -170 C and under... not really applicable here though
  20. Yeah, seen that video before. It is a follow up on the previous season (Season 5, Episode 5) where Jeremy drives a diesel engined Jaguar S-Type around the 'ring in 9:59, at which Sabine says "I do that laptime in a van!" I'm pretty sure the Porsche Carrera GT ran in the 7min 30sec proximity (can't remember exact time). Also, the ultra low volume Radical SR3 Turbo ran 7min 19secs. Only 25 road legal examples were built, though.
  21. I agree with MadManz. That first one is the ugliest thing I have seen in a very long time! It deserves to be badged a Ssangyong with looks like that! The wheel and tyre package combined with the flares is just hiddeous. I was going to say something harsher about it, but this is a public forum and people may take offence  The others are all very nice though!
  22. ...and the cars are losing every time!!! A few months back a 911 Turbo S lost to a GSXR1000. Guess that comes down to cars being much more of a compromise than bikes. Bikes don't need back seats, or aircon, or carpets, or stereos, or crumple zones, or side intrusion bars, or a roof, or doors, or tyres suitable for wet weather, or a boot, or ABS etc. I say bring out something as no-compromises as a bike and see how they compare. Something made by radical, westfield, caterham, arial etc. would do nicely!
  23. We do decide... to a degree. Nissan design vehicles based on what they can sell. If no one wants a V6 engined Silvia, then they won't make one! Or if it somehow makes it to market, it won't stay there for long. In addition, the Z cars and Silvias have a real cult following around the world, and Nissan would be foolish to mess with the formula and turn away long time fans of the vehicles.
  24. I watched a documentary about street racing, and from that I have some advice. Go and get the following mods: 5 inch exhaust tip, neons, spoiler, bodykit, subwoofer, doof doof music, fancy racing seats (or just NOS seat covers), 50 HP shot of NOS, cut your springs, new paint, biggest rims you can find (don't worry if they rub), possibly try and get a laptop hooked up to some fancy graphics, and some stick on decals will help the top end aerodynamics signifficantly. Once the mods are done, lengthen the injector pulse, tune the NOS timing and you'll run 9's. Learn how to shift and keep your concentration. Make sure you double clutch the upshifts - no granny shifting. I've studied this documentary intensely and have determined that the average 1/4 mile race has around 5 to 6 upshifts and goes for around 2-3 minutes. If you can't focus for that long you're toast. Live your life a quater mile at a time. Make sure you take the left lane to avoid trains and trucks. If someone is catching up, push the accelerator to the floor - none of the racers in the documentary seemed to floor it unless they had some competition, perhaps to conserve fuel for the last stages of the 1/4 mile. Say your prayers the night before: "Dear heavenly ah... spirit, thank you for providing us with the direct port nitrous... ah, injection, four core intercoolers and ball bearing turbos and um titanium valve springs. Thank you." Before the race, check the police scanners. Wait for a 187 in Glendale and make sure the cops are all over it. Then you are good to roll. Finally, make sure you know the greeting procedure for racing a Euro: "Nice car. Whatýs the retail on one of those?" "More than you can afford, pal. Ferrari," "Smoke him!" Also remember that diesels are the fastest machines on the street. I look forward to the video of you smashing the exotic.
  25. I would disagree with that claim. I reckon BMW M5 and Bentley Continental Flying Spur might be quicker from 100km/h-300km/h, and the Mercedes Benz S65 AMG would definitely be quicker. Must be the 1000Nm of torque No doubt the E55 is one tough competitor though! So where's that video again?
