It's just a diode... Totally useless IMO.. After all, the whole device is just a strip of diodes :-) Weird, 'cause my diode also fried itself... If you can't find another one, just bridge it.

Yeah, it's a bitch to open... You have to persevere though. We snapped a blade in the process, but once you get it started, then it's easy. Beats paying $150 when all you gotta do is replace a two cent component

What has been the best phrase someone has shouted at you
Airzone replied to Lozza150's topic in General Automotive Discussion
I can't believe nobody has owned up to shouting "Show us yer tits" or something similar I've just got "Give it some" from a guy at work.. LOW25T -
Any difference between S1 and S2 AFM?
Airzone replied to Advan_01's topic in General Automotive Discussion
For R33's, I know of 2 types of AFM... My mate with a 93 (Series 1) has one with 5 wires in the plug. Mine is a S1 '95 and it's got 3 wires. Aside from that, Just Jap charge $170 for the 5 wire and $250 for the 3 wire Can't say if they're compatable or not, but I think I heard once that it may have something to do with the older AFM being able to self-clean... Don't quote me on that though -
It's supposed to be fully auto and speed dependant, and you use those buttons while stationary so you can clean the bar. Other interesting buttons to look out for are teh fooly sic nos, and neons

Hehe, yeah.. Also, there's a LAN hack for the PC, so you can play LAN games.... Been doing it for 2 days straight Nothing more fun than banging around a track in reverse trying to smash into your flattie, where the only performance upgrades are bags of rice in the boot :-)

Shit 'eh... This is pretty bad, esp the no insurance bit... Goes to show that you could be the most careful driver in the world, and that will still probably count for nothing.. Good luck

Is it easy to get pipework made up for a GTR intercooler (to fit into a GTST that is)?

Sometimes reading a book isn't enough. Personally, I don't learn much from books - I need to see it demonstrated and then do it myself.. 'Spose everyone's different.

Bad experience with a sydney workshop
Airzone replied to Airzone's topic in General Automotive Discussion
Backup - it's against the rules, man. But you can PM me. I do believe I asked for suggestions for a performance workshop in the Maintenance forum though Anyway, if they don't give me my money back who would be the best to call? Office of Fair Trading, or isn't there a auto-mechanic body? -
Bad experience with a sydney workshop

Hah! And yet some more! They didn't put the electrical plug on the TPS back in properly, so my car karked it today after it shook loose. Luckily I knew how to run the ECU diagnostics, otherwise I would have had to get the car towed back home. The plug just clicked back in and now it's nice and secure again. On a positive note, they did refill my windscreen washer bottle, so it seems they did something right. Anyway, if anyone's thinking of going to a "performance" shop in the eastern suburbs let me know and I'll tell you who not to go to. -
Ok, I don't know exactly what that is, but I guess it's got to do with taking the cams out? Or is it the seal against the cam holder / bearing thingie (in laymans terms - lol!) and and rocker cover? I figure at the worst with taking the rocker cover off, I can just say too hard and put it back together again, but I just need to know what bits are single-use.
-
If you take the rocker cover off, do you have to replace the gasket, or can it be reused? I was thinking of cleaning out my lifters one of these days.
-
I can see why you'd refuse to use them (not mentioning any relavence to any of my other posts).

Don't know what it's called, but it's been covered at least once on these forums - so if you search for it it should come up. I also read a while back that a squeak coming from under the car when you press the clutch in could be either the slave cylinder, the arm / fork thing, or the thrust bearing. I get it myself, and my thrust bearing squeaks and whirrs, and I figure the only real way to check that and the rest of the things that could be wrong is to drop the gearbox and do a proper job. Which is exactly why I'll not be worried about it until I need a new clutch I'm a little concerned about spraying WD40 anywhere around my slave cylinder / bellhousing sort of area.

I just got my car serviced by a performance workshop here in Sydney, and I asked them to check out to see if they could fix my rough idle while they were at it. They had a heap of WRX's out the front and I heard they did job on Skylines, so I was eager to give them a go. They replaced my spark plugs without asking if I wanted copper or not, but that's ok. They changed my air filter even though it was clean, but that's fine also. I don't care about that - they were trying to fix my idle. But when they forget to do up half of the vacuum hoses after taking the crossover pipe off, you gotta wonder. Here I was the next day driving home from work, gave my car a little boost, and all I could feel was my car doing nothing special and hear all this air going everywhere (after which the engine stalled). The hose going from the intercooler to the crossover pipe had blown off, and the hose clamp wasn't even done up. I looked some more, and half of the other vacuum hoses had their clamps just dangling around the pipe. Luckily, the owner of the house I'd "parked" in front of came out to see what was the matter, and after a bit of mucking around with a pair of pliers and a shiftey we had it running again. I gave the engine bay a throurough check over when I got home, and attacked all my hose clamps with a socket set (and yeah, the others were pretty loose too)... Am I alone in thinking this is a little unprofessional? BTW - they didn't fix my idle - they said they couldn't work it out...

It's supposed to do with bacteria growing in your ducting. You can aparently buy some stuff to spray in there to get rid of the smell. I have a squeaky clutch too. I'm not going to worry about it until I need a new one.

do i have a/c or climate control?
Airzone replied to raz0r$harP.UK's topic in General Automotive Discussion
I find that if you hit auto, you also set the desired temperature and the thing works out what fan speed, air ducts, and heat to apply.. But you still gotta set the temp yourself -
Thanks - Just around the corner from work
-
Yeah... Anyway, there's some indication on the throttle cable bracket (in the engine bay) and on the plennum that a second throttle cable could be fitted... Interesting, 'eh?

Who is C&V and where can I find out contact info about them?
-
I don't know if a factory option for 33's was Cruise Control, but they sometimes have a switch on the clutch so you don't cause the engine to over-rev when you put the clutch in by disengaging the cruise control.
-
Hi guys, Does anyone have the details of the Jervis Bay cruise? I believe it is supposed to be on this coming Sunday...
-
On a gtst it's easier to remove the airbox with the AFM still attached... Then remove the AFM.

Hi guys, My car's due for a service and there are a couple of things I wanna get checked out. My usual mechanic is good for routine generic stuff, but this time I need someone who knows a bit about skylines. BTW, this is the eastern 'burbs in Sydney I'm talking about. I have seen a mechanic on Anzac Pde in Kengington who has a black 32 often parked out the front, and there's aparently a place up between randwick and bondi junction that does skylines. Anyone know of these mechanics, or others?
