  1. It's just a starting point Benny. You don't just rock up at the track with no idea of what pressures are in the tyres to start with. For those of us without proper tyre gear, like a pyrometer, we need a reference point of some sort. I know that my car, given a certain ambient temp range, will increase tyre pressures around 4 psi from its cold start pressure, But that's just coming back into the pits after a session, and checking temps quickly. Which is affected by how much cooling down I did before coming in etc. In actual fact it could be 4-8psi on track which I'd never know without having some of those fancy pants wireless valve cap type sensors. Or coming straight in after a hot lap to a waiting mate with a pyrometer at pit entry to check temps. So, we need to start somewhere and we're not exactly racing for pink slips here
  2. I'm dropping mine for this Saturday, will be trying a cold start pressures a few PSI lower than before. Will be taking my good gauge and my compressor so I can adjust as necessary. I've had an alignment done as well so this might help a bit also.
  3. A lot of aftermarket computers will take a wideband input in the 0-5v range, I've got my AEM output wire in place ready for when I upgrade my management and can make use of the wideband readings. Having a local supplier for the Innovate would be good too given some of the failure info around just in case that still applies. As an aside, My AEM shipped with an ever so slightly suspect 4 pin harness, I contacted my supplier through ebay and he had AEM send me another express from the states no questions asked. Who you deal with from a retail point of view is just as important as which product you buy.
  4. Ash had a whinge so I've posted this here too. Gates open 7:30am, scrutineering starts at 8am, and beginner sessions kick off at 9am (grouping is based on expected lap times). Timing is provided, not sure how this is done but assuming Dorian with times displayed on a screen near the scrutineering office. Cost is $160 email [email protected] to enter but get in quick. AASA is all that's required. I'm not associated with Tampered, just sharing as I'll be there as will Brendan (for DECA people who know us).

  6. Yep normal, gauge reads up to 18:1 and on decel the mix geats leaner than this so it displays those --- instead.
  7. Sorted this, for anyone else after one (same for all Silvia's) Nissan part number is 32862 V5001
  8. Hey guys, I need to move on from the SAFC2 to something with timing control. A mate of mine has offered me a Haltech Interceptor for $250 with all the wiring and cables needed to plug into laptop etc. Software is freely available online. Are these any good versus say an e-manage blue? I'll be tuning it myself and only need basic fuel control and timing control (CA18 with T28 fitted so need to be able to pull out some of the timing advance the factory ECU dials in when it sees the increased fuel amount). I've already got an AEM wideband wired up also. Cheers
  9. Noticed a smell and a leak at the last track day, had a look and found the top gearbox seal is shagged. I need one quickly so Nissan might not be an option. http://www.sillbeer....shifter-top.jpg That rubber seal at the bottom of the shifter is what I'm talking about. Anyone know of a universal option or another place to get that?
  10. Sorted this, wired up the alternator to the battery side of the switch so when the switch is pulled there's nothing on the engine harness side to provide any power at all so the car stops and cannot be restarted until the switch is reset. Pull tab is located near the base of the windscreen just below the A pillar on the drivers side.
  11. lol why does everyone end up with a wiper stalk! I had to fit a different one as my car had the rear wiper but the non rear wiper stalk... dodgy. If we cross paths at DECA I'll buy you a drink then.
  12. AHHHH! Words cannot express my appreciation! (Don't get any funny ideas!) I see you drive an R33, do you need a wiper stalk?! It's the only part I have left over from my 33 days, you can have it if you like lol
  13. THAT'S THE ARTICLE! I'll contact them and see if I can get some hi-res pics! Basti you legend, you might have just won the Internet.
  14. =\ It's out there, because I found it and it's also on this forum now and on my facebook.... I think it's just taken from someone's awesome trip of Japan (motor website or something wherre they have visited tuning garages etc). Also lol Bulbasaur.
  15. Cheers See how I go next track day, bit of a change going from R-comps so will take some getting used to.
  16. That's a lot of growth in pressures, you are clearly going faster than me Federal called me back (awesome customer service) and we discussed my setup in more detail. He suggested dropping the pressures a touch 2-psi front to back respectively so that puts it on about where yours are. I'll try this at the next track day the weekend after this one. How many hot laps are you getting? what camber/toe/spring rates? Cheers for the feedback.
  17. Had my first run at Winton on these on Friday and they compare reasonably well to what they were replacing (very old/worn/heat cycled RE55s) The old RE55s still had more outright grip and handled the heat build up over a session better but for $640 for 4 brand new tyres the RS-R's do pretty well. Something I'm interested in is what other RS-R's users are doing with pressures. I found that after a decent 5-7 lap stint the RS-Rs started to get greasy and I was getting a bit of rubber build up on the edge of the tread block. I spoke with Federal before running these tyres and they suggested a cold start pressure of 36psi, a quick check of pressures when returning to the pits showed around 40-41psi in all four corners. I didn't get a chance to experiment with different pressures as some debris on the track damaged a valve and ended my day early. What have others found in regards to pressures they are running and how they find it. Quick run down on the car. S13, not much power, only 160+rwkw -2.5 camber front, -1.5 rear Toe is definitely out at the front at present (fixing that this week before the next track day) -1mm toe in the rear. damper was set on full soft as a few clocks harder up had the car getting skatey and wanting to understeer. 8/6 springs, standard bars. Ambient temp on the day was only 13-15deg
  18. Well it's not every day you see a Z tune and a 400R in the same shot (yellow car in the background). I was hoping for a high res version but I think this is just a shot from someones trip to Japan.
  19. Afternoon Gents. I'm just finishing off my batter relocation at the moment and am in the process of wiring in a kill switch in the engine bay. Where's the easiest place for me to pick up an ignition signal to cut when the switch is activated so the engine actually stops as well as disconnecting the battery? Battery disconnect already working fine. I'm just using a standard 2 pole isolator switch, nothing fancy.
  20. I'll add something about distance for the sensor. Was talking to a mate of mine last night who used one of these in his WRX (around 220awkw) for 4 years with the sensor right behind the turbo and he never had any issues. I'm not about to move mine from the de-cat as it's convenient for me but that info might come as some comfort for others who want to run it in the dump
  21. I contacted the seller, car is sold. Thread can be closed.
  22. Is this still for sale? What's not together at the moment?
  23. Yep, hit the nail on the head I reckon.
  24. That may have been 'some' peoples complaints Nick but not me I don't mind KERS when everyone has it and it's a level playing field but I just think that DRS makes it a bit easy sometimes. Perhaps next year they will reduce the DRS zones by a few hundred meters here and there. Then we can at least see the guys battle it out under brakes a bit more.
