Fold Away License Plates
TokyoTaxi replied to chinkeboi's topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
Yeah, it's got nothing to do with speed camera's etc ( AFAIK ) but moreso for uninhibited airflow to the cooler etc. Be interested to know about the laws regarding these things........ -
I'll second that ! Autoglym is fcing awesome !!! I tried it for the first time on Sunday and it's SO much better than any other polish I've ever used. I'm SOLD.

Fold Away License Plates
TokyoTaxi replied to chinkeboi's topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
I saw one of these on the front of a GT-R when I was in Osaka and it looked like a great idea ! The one I saw was spring loaded so the at a speed of like 80kph or over, it would fold back/flat and then return to the normal position when the speed dropped again. I looked everywhere for one but never got my hands on one Is this one spring loaded ? -
Nope, they were painted by a Professional Spray Painter Is there anyone out there who's genuinely interested but the price is a bit too high ? The G/F has been giving me some $hit about this car not being sold saying I put the price up too high so nobody would buy it etc. I personally think it's a fair price for the car but I guess I might have to be a bit more flexible. Anyway, PM me if you'd like to make a SENSIBLE offer Meanwhile, I'll just be down in the garage doing some more mods Got a Nismo Clutch Line to go on and I just fitted an Engine Dampener Kit !! ( I'm going to get help soon, I swear !! )

Thanks to everyone who has offered their car for a trade ! Some of them have been SOOOO TEMPTING !!! I suppose I should be more specific in what I would trade. I'm looking at getting out of turbo cars altogether. 1st post amended to reflect trade preference. Other than that, I'm open to offers. Again, Thanks for all your offers.

Firstly, check your belt is tight, then make sure your pump is actually turning and then do the diagnostic check ( very cool thuing to see ). BTW, if your power steering pump stops working all together, you'll know about it fast !! Maybe try replacing the power steering fluid and see how that goes. If the diagnostics show up with nothing and you're at a loss, PM me, I still might have one ace up my sleeve to help you out

It's going to be a sad day when the roar of an engine is no longer heard Could you imagine how pathetic Top Fuel drag racing would be ???? Or an F1 race ???? when all you can hear is a blender and a vacuum cleaner go by.......... So what are they going to be called in the future instead of "Petrol Heads" ??

R32 Nismo Brake Pads
TokyoTaxi replied to TokyoTaxi's topic in For Sale (Private Car Parts and Accessories)
Anyone need a set of pads ? I'll get some pics of the rear ones up soon. -
Thanks for the offer but I'm looking to move into something around 1999 or younger.
-
I'd be extremely impressed if they can hold to that !!! ( and maintain full operating efficiency ).
-
Correct. In commercial aircraft engines they are called Nozzle Guide Vanes ( NGV's ) in the turbine or Variable Inlet Guide Vanes ( VIGV's ) in the Compressor. They change the angle of attack of the air going into the blades ( vanes in the case of turbo's ). Keeping in mind that in aircraft engines, the geometry of the turbine is not variable because of reliability and cost. I'll be very interested to see how this goes into the future !! The engine is going to need to run VERY cleanly to stop the guide vanes from siezing up with carbon build-up and I would imagine that the turbo service life on the new 911 would probably be an overhaul at something like 60,000km intervals.

Roadsafe ?!?!? Isn't that some sort of NSW government initiative ?? Anyway, Thanks much !! I'll check it out

Does Your New Metal Cat Smell Funny?
TokyoTaxi replied to PhilGTR's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
My metal cat still smells funny at times and that's like 8 months after fitment. I even put the old cat back on for a week and the smell went away. Then put the metal one back on since the smell doesn't bother me now I know what it is. -
OK so here's the twist The buyer of this car can choose to have it exactly as above, or....... You can have it with the 3 inch Stainless Steel, more quiet, cannon tipped cat back system pictured below. and/or You can have it with the 17 inch wheels and tyres ( 17x8 - 235/45/17 TPG's & 17x9 - 255/40/17 TPG's ) pictured below. and/or You can have it with the original boot lid with wing and spoiler with brake light.

Nah, just a spray painter in the Shire near where I live. Trades as "Tynan Smart Repairs" in Kirrawee. I would say that Magman would be one of the best options but too far away for me.

Does anyone in Aus deal in Tokico Coilovers ? Need to replace 2 fronts on a 32 GT-R and the owner wants to keep the setup the same.
-
Sorry for the late response With your engine running ( at idle ) CAREFULLY put your hand in front of where the hole would be and feel the air pressure that is applied to that spot via the radiator cooling fan. There's a reasonable amount of pressure / flow there even at idle. So, any RPM above that would provide even better air pressure / flow Now, the way I see it, any air flow through the coil pack area ( cam valley ) that's cooler than the intense engine heat that normally accumulates in that area, must be a good thing. I wouldn't remove the front cam cover all together since it just exposes the cam belt to too much crap and creates too much of a personal risk from the cam gears spinning etc. With the cover in place and the hole cut as described, there is a happy medium between some air flow over the coils and your safety + cam belt protection IMO. As for the sand and dirt getting in the coil area and in around the spark plugs, I really haven't noticed anything major in there ( yes I do look ). When you think about it, the chances are pretty average of major sand and dirt getting through your air-con condenser, through your radiator, and projected by your radiator cooling fan directly into a reasonably small hole AND THEN, through the louvers and into the coil area !! However, if you were to leave the cam valley cover off all together...... I'd say your chances of getting crap in the plug recesses will increase dramatically !! I suppose at this point it's worth mentioning that personally, before I remove spark plugs, I always blast the area with compressed air and vaccum at the same time ( using one of those long thin nozzles that get's deep in the plug recess ) so I really don't worry too much about dirt etc getting in the plug holes. ( more incredibly anal traits adopted from my days of working on exotic cars ). With regards to getting sand and dirt in the cam belt area, maybe you would but I can't imagine it would be anything major enough to cause huge damage. I suppose you "could" put some kind of mesh over the hole but I'd be more worried about "it" getting blown into the cam belt than dirt etc. Maybe I ( or we ) can re-engineer the mod to make it better........ Keep in mind........... This is a mod "I" did and "I" believe works well to cool and prolong the life of the coil packs but if you guys come up with something better, I'm all ears !!

Dan, are you comparing it to your GT-R or something more mainstream like a 3.5L Magna etc ?? Like I said, for something close to 20K, midsize, that's a 99 model or younger, and is rear wheel drive, I'm not expecting to find much with power. So yeah..... : So far I've heard nothing really bad about the IS200 ( on this forum and in general ) so that's looking favourable
-
Really ??? I haven't had a chance to test drive one yet but I thought being a boxer style 2.5L and not a real big car it would step pretty lively. Kinda what I wanted to hear though. I'm sorta not an all wheel drive kinda person.
-
I SOOO looked into this option but I want to get away from turbo charged cars and I know I would not be able to resist modding it. :
