Greddy Mspec Fmic Kit $750 Vs Hybrid Fmic Kit $650
J_Red33 replied to {AMO}'s topic in Engines & Forced Induction
I know this is a bit of an old thread, but I thought I'd revive it as I've been looking at this situation myself & I have a few questions it would be appreciated if some people could answer. How much better is a Tube & Fin intercooler over a Bar & plate & how critical is the end tank design? Not sure which would be the go in absolute performance terms as far as a cheap tube & fin vs an expensive good performing bar & plate type one. I also eventually want to go a front facing plenum as the long term plan is for 300+ rwKW so the Piping won't be permanant. Would I have to cut the hole under the battery plate further forward if I was to change to a front facing plenum? I don't want my car to be a butchers special. I have looked at the V-spec Greddy/Trust tube & fin cooler too, but I can't see that the price of it over the Hybrid is justified. Sure it fits right & has better end tanks, but for double the price? It'd wanna be made in Japan for that money! My other alternative is to just wait unit I got the money for the plenum too & go full custom. Any input appreciated. Cheers -
Twin Hole Vs Single Hole Injectors

Toyota, Mitsubishi & Mazda use Denso Nissan & Subaru use JECS Honda & Suzuki different brands again (Can't remember the names barely ever saw them) It's interesting that you pointed out about RX-7's having denso's. The injectors they use in particular on earlier models I did not like as they seemed to be very prone to broad varyations in flow between individual injectors & sometimes variations in flow of the same injector while they were running! This was especially bad under light loads. Good way of confusing an ECU. Rich no lean rich no no lean no Rich AHHHHHH. It is a brand I did forget to mention however & they are good, but seem a bit more prone to developing problems too (leaks, dodgy spray patterns etc). They're newer high performance stuff I can't comment on. -
Sounds like a really good idea. The line starts here

I hate to be a party pooper but I'm not so keen on this 1. I've heard a few stories of late, if the seas a bit rough ur car moves around & there's no securing straps. Won't catch my line on that boat. Sorry guys

Twin Hole Vs Single Hole Injectors

Mmmm not a real big fan of lucus injectors they tend to actually collect fuel on the side of the outlet due to them being set back so far like you said. Not a big rochester fan either. Newer design Bosch & Jecs injectors are probably the best I've delt with. Not so sure on some other aftermarket stuff. -
Is it actually a GMH donk? I'm guessing so, will have to ask about it when I get my alarm fitted next week. Saw it today but didn't have time to ask, it's a nice fit. Take notice though it's go no radiators or intercooler fitted, so it's going to get a lot more crowded yet. Kinda shows how much room a skyline engine bay has though, needs so much length for a straight six.

I didn't actually get the name of the guy, but I'd say he was the boss. I ended up going for the autowatch system, I'd already seen it & liked it, so when he recommended it too I went for it. He offered it at a good price & could do other parts in the job that appealed to me. Will let you know how it goes, but sounds good

Equally good idea, pleanty of suggestions for road trips here. Could have a couple years of cruises on the board soon

Ok guys went to GT Autosound today & had a bit of a chat with the guys there, very professional from a sales perspective & they seem to really know what they're doing too. The car's been booked in for surgery there next week. Thanks for your help everyone

Yeah really has been a bad week for Australia. I got told buy a guy at the shops, didn't want to believe him. At least like Irwin, he'd lived a full life & he died doing what he loved, & that personally I am envious of. RIP Brocky we'll miss you mate.

Twin Hole Vs Single Hole Injectors
J_Red33 replied to SimonR32's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
What kind of 'disc type' injectors did you have? It is important to know that even though the outlets of these types of injectors can look the same, they can spray very different patterns depending on what kind of engine they are designed for. Spray patterns can vary in with & direction that they are sprayed. Injectors like the standard type on an R33 GTS-t for instance do spray in 2 pairs (many have 4 holes in the outlet, 2 hole ones are also common but there are other variations than this) ie 4 holes in the disc spraying into 2 directions for 2 ports. Others however like say a VT commodore, have what appears to be basically the same setup but only spray in a single direction. The biggest advantages from these types of injectors in my experience, are that the give a better directed spray, while actually atomising better than direct pintle outlet injectors. They can vary in spray width and in the case of twin spray setups also spray angle. If you are using the wrong type of injector for the application it may not work quite so well. -
Vic would be good if you get down on the great ocean road. Need a bit more time that just the weekend to do that maybe. As for a drive to Sydney, it's not really that exciting. I've done the trip several times in the last 5 years & I never look forward to it. Only reason I'd wanna head up that way is to head to for something like the Canberra summer-nat's.

Yeah don't like the look of that hyundai on %20 ethanol, but 5% sounds pretty safe. I'll be sticking with ulitimate 98 for now at least, no PFC, no point. As for the oxygen content of the ethanol, wouldn't it burn faster if the oxygen was already there with it? Is anyone a chemistry specialist here?? lol

Twin Hole Vs Single Hole Injectors
J_Red33 replied to SimonR32's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Hmmm kinda doubtfull about that myself. I've heard stories of a mate of mine with motorbikes also & it was the diffence between it running properly & barely at all!! Motorbikes are genrally pretty highly tuned sensitive beasts so I'd say it becomes more important the more warmed up your engine is when it comes to power output. Better mixed fuel & air burns much faster. You can ignite petrol just poured on the ground & it just burns, spray a fine mist of it into the air though & then try to light it & ........... Be somewhere else if some idiot actually tries this!!! Would be interesting to see if anyone has actually done some back to back dyno testing on this. -
Twin Hole Vs Single Hole Injectors

From the best of my knowledge: Twin spray injectors should be a better setup as long as they don't spray a solid jet of fuel rather than an atomised spray. The biggest advantage with going twin spray is that if they are set up correctly they will spray the atomised fuel directly down the intake ports to the valves. The biggest problem with single spray setups is that fuel collects on the sides of & in between the ports & is therefore no longer properly atomised. It very much comes down to the quality of the injector & how well it's set up more than anything. Not 100% on this, but from what I know that's the key points -
You may find the main reason the pump was noisy is either 1 of 2 things: Either the Boost98 fuel is more prone to cavitation with the ethanol in it, or the ethanol fuel itself is less lubracative, meaning the brushes & bearings are wearing faster & therefore making more noise. Either way it doesn't sound like a good thing. 4 & a half years isn't that long for a fuel pump though should have a bit of life in it yet. The other thing with the ignition timing, I read somewhere that ethanol actually burns faster than petrol due to it not being in great long chains like high octane petrol, so in theory this would mean you actually have to retard the timing a bit anyway for the same amount of fuel would it not?
-
Some interesting comments on this stuff. I would have thought that the idea when using a higher grade fuel was to maintain the same AFR while producing more power. To do this you then have to advance the timing due to the longer burn time. The effectiveness of it then comes down to the fact that you need less of it to maintain the AFR, you can fit more air in the cylinder for a bigger bang & therefore create more power. I have done a fair bit of reading & research as well as having a bit of experience on this subject, & this is my understanding on how it works. Leaning out sounds like a bit of a worry, like the fuel is actually a lower octane rather than higher. Confusing

Hmm all that engine work & not one word for the suspension. Looks stock ride height too apart from the front bar making it look lower. Dodgy FWD dragracer.

1 or 2 of the simple events would be good to do soon, like say the movie night or pool. This is a great list so far, pleaty of variety.
-
Yeah that's it, I'm a fiddler too, but I don't want to have to carry a timing light in the boot all the time. Can't you set the map on the PFC so that the timing changes anyway? If I can't do it quickly & painlessly then I don't wanna know. My 33's an everydayer & I don't want to be changing my timing once or twice a week if I keep getting different fuel ta very much. But if you want to go do that knock yourself out mate

Hello again everyone. Well it seems all had a good time last weekend with the social. The appreciation shown by people for the efforts of not only myself, but everyone that helped make it all worthwhile. Thanks everyone. To keep the ball rolling on SAU South Australia, I thought it would be a good idea to create a thread for people to post up ideas on the next & subsequent future events. These events do not have to be limited to just lunches & cruises, but can still be such simple ideas as well as say a bowling meet up or a night on the town where little planning is required. They could also be much larger events like say a beach party with games etc to keep people entertained. These are only examples so let your imagination run wild. The idea with this is for there to be something for everyone on SAU, not all will want to attend every event & nor should they have to to be a part of the fun. So if there is something that you can think of & would really want to do post it! I want all the ideas that everyone has pop in their brain to be put on here. Don't be affraid to say it, you have nothing to loose (depending on how weird it is) by putting it up here. So fire away guys & gals. I will compile a list on this post as thing come along. NOTE: This thread is only to post up ideas & expressions of interest in them, not to actually arrange events on. These are to be kept separate to prevent confusion & also get peoples attention when they pop up. Events do not have to be arranged by myself either, though I will likely keep doing events if people are happy for me to. If others feel that it is within their capability to do so without causing conflicts they are more than welcome to do so. SAU is for everyone Cheers, Jared Current list of possible events: Mallala Track Day AIR Drag Meet (whenever the hell that will be. Bob Jane you're a tightass, get it fixed or sell it!) Movie night (BORAT?) Interstate beach & BBQ cruise Pub Crawl Pool Night (As in pool table. Hmmmm Anyone got a big swimming pool for summer??) Paintball Day Go-Karts (GP?) Belair NP BBQ Ten-Pin Night (lock in maybe?) Cruises: Victor Habour day cruise Victoria weekend cruise Burra weekend cruise 'n' social KI cruise Barossa cruise

Yep we sure should. Gonna start a new thead

Wouldn't bother for my car. Unless your car is seriously hotted up or you plan on hitting the track it's not worth it for the sake of a handfull of kw's you're not going to notice. I'd also want to be able to quickly switch between engine maps if I had to change from one to the other. Wouldn't run 95 though. I've had mine ping a bit on 98 let alone 95. Hope you don't run your boost very high Madaz.

I've had this idea for a while & I may as well post it up here. I used to work for a company that does all soughts of fuel injection & ignition system electronics as previously stated. They also sell parts like Fuel pumps & replacement ignitors fuel injectors etc. If there was enough interest in their services on here, I may be able to come to an agreement with them about a deacent trade discount to anyone on SAU for their parts & services.
