Thats pretty normal. Plenty of the Trevs are always on hand to dish out the crap, in the propper bogan way. It just wouldn't be australia without them. It's all good. btw you have a 383 stoker commo? what times have you run in it mate?
-
Go and have some fun mate. Clutch wise just 'drop it'. Sidestepping the clutch at the right rpm and feeding the throttle correctly will minimise wheelspin and the clutch isn't going to get worn out. Take down the helmet, long sleave shirt and $30 and you can't go wrong
-
oh btw it's not a 'sleeper'. It still looks like a skyline and to most people they can't tell the difference between turbo and non turbo.
-
It's cheaper to do this than you think. A largish shot of nitrous will make it go very well. If you set the kit up correctly (and it's fairly cheap to do) you can make as much power as the turbo'd car you have. The setup I am guessing will be less than $3k all up using your exisisting engine. You would be borderline needing a direct port nitrous kit, go there once you are looking at 200hp+ shot. If you do it right there is no real drawback appart from the consumption of nitrous. At 230rwkw you are within the limits of the internals too from most reports. If all you want is a 1/4mile killer then this is the easy way to do things. Go for it!

exhale 32, It's not a big deal really, I wasn't seen to contribute to a constructive discussion and in the process some people got put out. If I can undo the harm by deleting posts as I offered then I think we are all better off for it.
-
all my posts are deleted as per a request. I would thank people quoting my now deleted posts to do likewise.

I think with the run of 225rwkw Vs your 106mph terminal the car was perhaps a bit down on power during the 1/4 mile run. If you consider my old R33 gtst with a stock turbo ran a 13.3 @106mph with I believe around 180rwkw at the time. Do you have a cold air induction at all? If not this may explain some of the loss in power when at the track vs the dyno. Also if your dyno was done with the bonnet up this can contribute to a difference as well. I'm sure there is a lot more improvement to come yet, good luck.

I am happy to appologise to anyone who's feelings are hurt as the result of my humourous (attempted -lets face it I struggle) sarcasm. I have at several intervals reassured people of my support for their choice. There is nothing wrong with stating one's own case with the intention of changing others veiws. If enough of you feel so inclined I will even delete all of my posts in this thread. I hope people are more thick skinned than that but, I stand by this. I should add that I have offered several people with NA skylines my enthusiastic support when they have PM'd me with questions on mechanical issues or performance. I shouldn't like to give the impression I am a 'performance biggot'.

What sort of car is it?
-
k_hole, The answer is yes , I'd buy them in pink if they offered the best performance. And the funny thing is if they truely were the best then all the race teams in the world would have pink mags. Pink rims would very quickly become associated with the racing scene. Of course 'red' is the colour that makes your car go faster. 383chevvy, To make your example easier, lets say it looks like a commodore but out performs my GTR in every way , has better ecconomy and is more reliable. Quite an easy choice for me then you might think. But, then again I own one of only 100 Australian delivered GTR's for group A racing in the early 90's. So I am driving a peice of history too. But lets say in this fictional world the commodore is a one of a kind too, and I happen to love it's history. Ok I have just bought a commodore. A rose by any other name would smell as sweet, call it GTR or call it commodore. Having said that my volvo wagon out performs most V8 commodores I have encountered. I have had worked V8 commo's in the family a couple of times and they aren't my all time favorite car. They have their merits. My all time favorite car is the 69 plymouth barracuda BO29. Doesn't handle like the GTR but the drive of the big block 10second capable factory car is something my dreams are made of. Having never owned one I can only speculate as to whether it would live up to my expectations.
-
I did indicate that I buy mags and body kits ,when and if I need to, based on performance considerations only. Why buy new clothes you ask? We could turn this into a performance issue from a socialisation point of veiw. Or perhaps in the case of athletics we can turn this back into a dynamic performance argument. I am certainly not arguing against peoples desire or will to purchase neons. Afterall I find the utilitarian understanding of life is lacking. Then again I haven't used neons on any car I have owned so maybe I should test them on the Volvo wagon? This way I may discover how good they are. Then I can write a book titled "THE JOY OF NEON".
-
I mentioned the history of neons earlier in the thread. The 4wd thing. If you have ever been almost up to the axles in it at night time a light is always handy was my thought, if you have ever been in a 4wd in this stiuation you will know that you get out to check. Oh... that is for people who actually take their 4wd off road, I guess for the neon user it would be a given they bought the car for the perception of safety so I guess it's not the case. Thats the 4wd version of rice. Floating effect? You do think your car is a spaceship! About the body kits. I think an NA R33 skyline falls into the category of a non-performance body kit. Looks like a turbo skyline but, doesn't go. If you remember back to your first refference to the body kits and rims you directed your retorical question to those on this thread who condemed the neons. In this case I will be bold and suggest that all of them base their decisions on rim and spoiler purchase on performance (to a substancial extent not withstanding there is enough variety to afford personal taste too). Glad to hear you wouldn't buy a GTR, I could do without seeing one of those with neons. Good luck with the NSX but, mate I reckon you should stay with the NA skyline afterall you aren't interested in performance are you? You mention spending money on making a car capable of exceeding the speed several times is silly. My car came factory equiped to do this. It may suprise you to realise that many people on this forum enjoy off road motorsport activities. The thrill of your cars performance is the focus of a true enthusiast. To chase greater performance through not only car development but, improved skill is the hallmark. I have a wing but I don't move fast? I'm a chicken!
-
Firstly, a 4wd may actually have a practical use for underbody lighting in rough terrain at night, to ensure negotiation of areas with underbody hazards. No more silly (actually less so) than having them on your car or any other. Unless your saying your silly too? Unlike neons, a set of well chosen rims with advantages of weight and dimension can substancially improve a vehicles performance. Ditto for a body kit. A primary reason for a change in bumpers and spoilers is to improve aerodynamics and down force a fundamental in handling performance. You might consider that these addtions are seen by the regular public to be associated with race vehicles for good reason. However 'rice' can be found here too. For the most part the spoilers offered for skylines are based on good designs from a performance perspective. The ones for hyundai excels less so. If you owned a GTR, I don't see why you would care one way or the other about badges. You wouldn't fool anyone who knows anything about them unless you fit a hyundai body to it. You see everyone who knows GTR's will also know you have a GTR even without badges. People who don't know about GTR's generally don't know what the badge means anyway. What matters is you don't own a GTR.

I have heard similar Dan just never seen it myself. I believe you of course. I think talk is cheap about this kind of thing, for the people concerned they should take it to the race track and find out. Easy isn't it. Now I wonder which one is faster in reverse?

Hmmm dickhead... No I think a modified chicken will probably kill a standard dickhead. It would be close though.

Stock R32 GTR cams & gears $200ono
rev210 replied to rev210's topic in For Sale (Private Car Parts and Accessories)
still for sale... Also have a modified Factory ecu. Speed cut removed etc. $200 -
yes thats quite true dan. A wrx does take a greater amount of time to do things speed related than a gtst

I can't say I've seen any surveys to indicate that. Why not start a poll on a few forums to find out? I would suggest that in my experience both young and old find them less than attractive at the same time as some young and old people like them. The line of sepparation occurs along the performance and knowledge areas of someones background, I am guessing here. Most guys even under 20's who are performance enthusiasts would knock back neons. On the other hand young people who are after a car for an image and are caught up in fads more readily go the neons. I am interested why neons only look good on imports? Did you know the first applications were on show cars for the display of their imaculate and detailed undercarrages/drivelines? Mostly on what you might call 'trev' cars.

Don't take my comments as a discouragement. I actually agree that you should do what you like to your own car. However do understand that if you post a thread like this on a discussion forum you invite other differing opinions. If people say dissaproving things then thats what you have really asked for posting this up. After all you don't need people to say 'good on you' about something you have already said you did for yourself and no one else. Unless you need people to affirm you, I say we all do but, you don't find these people on a forum necessarily.

determine your fuel pumps total flow capabillites. You need another 75hp worth of fuel flow at the very least. If there is plenty of room left in your present system then no you don't need another pump. You can always increase the size of one pump to cater as well. A dedicated pump is a good idea once you go for a 200hp or above on say a direct port setup though. Although I don't have any experience with NOS on a car exactly like yours I can tell you that if you have a true tuned 75 shot (not a set of off the shelf so-called 75hp jets) then imagine a 75hp increase in your present power curve instantly from the moment you add it all the way to redline. Thats what nitrous does. You get torque like a feight train. Pull your dyno graph out and add 75 hp to the curve all the way through and see if you like the picture.

MirKz, Good on ya mate. Since the lights are an external 'look at my car' feature. You don't see them yourself being inside the vehicle whilst you drive so the effect is hardly for yourself. Rather you have done it for what you hope it will do for others veiwing your car as it goes past. Perhaps you hope that they will veiw you and your vehilce more favorably. Or create more oppertunites to engage in meaningfull conversations with others as they remark on your distinctive style. This is all very good and I can only encourage you to pursue further your real desire to be respected by which ever subculturual group it is that likes a car with neons and lights underneath. thousands of people like the F'n'F movies, perhaps these are the people you want to reach out to? If this is not accurate perhaps you like to pretend that your skyline is a space ship or something.People may laugh (we all need to laugh more) but, playing pretend is alot of fun afterall.

Hub vs roller dyno's. From what I've seen it depends. I've seen some reasonable horsepower differences in the two. Information from the US and the UK seems to be the same. Loses due to friction are a plain and obvious difference. There is no getting around the fact that increasing horsepower increases this loss, even when tied down well. Like someone else said it doesn't matter anyway it's just a tuning tool. I think the hub dyno's are great being sort of portable.
-
PHATR32, You should take the RB26dett out and install a two cyl turbo ning ning motor. Leaves more room for lights.
-
It's ok Gus. we understand a family can make you do strange things. I mean a volvo wagon? Are you back at harvey's again mate?
