  1. ebay + cheap alarm + auto elec = crap security. You would be better off with a team of girl guides protecting your car with cookies. Get a good alarm, mongoose, black widow etc, pay a few extra bucks for a pro to fit it and your car while not being "unstealable" will be a whole lot safer.
  2. hey mate, sounds ok, let me know what date.
  3. Just so you are aware, 35% is the maximum legal darkness on all windows including rear ones. Check out vicroads for more info vicroads standards for window tinting
  4. Just to clarify. I have been to dragtag on several occasions. The announcers make a point of saying not to rip it up as you leave as it is public road and not the controlled conditions of a concrete walled burnout pad with a safety fence around it. The dragtag guys are very road safety orientated and want people to get home safely. 99.9% of people do leave quietly, no burnouts, loud music or revving for the sake of it. I dont say 100% because i dont think that is achievable.
  5. My 2c I currently work for a company that has recently become involved with dragtag on a corporate basis. Neville, Geoff and the guys in Campbellfield do a great job of promoting a safe enviroment to go and thrash a car, pop a tyre and have some fun. Tonight i was there as an invited guest and whilst talking to Neville ( the owner) we were joined by two members of the vic police in Full uniform. Both were very supportive about the venue, both were also local cops from fawkner TMU. They stayed, chatted, laughed and watched a couple of cars tear it up for the crowd before leaving. This is a common thing for dragtag to receive support from local tmu and generally speaking fawkner tmu have been working with drag tag as they see it as a good way to get "hoons" out of the kmart carpark. The crowd tonight was well behaved, some of the cars were quite good, some not. It's just what you would expect to see on the street and not some wanky "salon" type event. Upon leaving the event, the friendly guard at the gate warned of the blitz outside. 8 cars so far receiving defects etc. The guys at dragtag do make a point of announcing over the speakers leave quietly and dont rip it up on the road. Most listen, the ones that dont are generally the one getting pulled over. The organisers also are in regular contact with local tmu to make sure that this type of blitz normally does not occur. However, having said that, for Vic Pol to sit outside an event, as they have previously done with easternats, springcars in shepparton, BBT @ chadstone and now dragtag, where people are making an effort to do the right thing is a complete disgrace. I realise that police are tasked to enforce laws as effected by public opinion and that the recent negative media coverage of "hoons" is making them like this. But seriously, c'mon. Vic pol will most likely read this, They look at forums afterall. So please read this carefully and think about it. Is it really the law you are upholding or are you merely punching more holes in your card to say you " got some stats" for your shift? Lets hope Vic Pol realise sooner rather than later that this type of "blitz" will only serve to drive things more underground and probably cause them to be more dangerous leading to more deaths or injury's.
  6. try earthing the rca's. it sounds like the noise is being generated by them. Strip back the plastic, earth the outher sheild and try that. Fusion amps are clean and wont produce noise.
  7. "oh we got both sorts of music, country and western"

  9. "evil will always triumph because good is dumb"
  10. Get one of these. Although you might still cop a defect for the hand grips being worn, front reflector missing and a rusty seat pole.
  11. Hey mate, you most likely have an after market actuator in the drivers door to trigger the central locking from the alarm. alarm ->actuator -> factory wiring -> passenger door check out the wiring to the actuator or take the door trim off the drivers door and replace it. Most likely it will cost you 10 bucks for the parts.

  13. Thanks mate, but I am no D, just someone who has been in the industry for a while, seen way to many cars get knocked and far to many owners that give out to much info to anyone about how "my car is unstealable because"... Well, you get the idea.
  14. doesnt that defeat the purpose of having a kill switch? taking photos? how to install? where you hide them? And for what's it's worthi they are the most basic unreliable form of securing a car. Are you sure that with your new front bar, 25/30 conversion, undercar neons ( to attract attention) and other mods that you dont want to spend a couple of bucks and secure the thing properly. You do live in the eastern suburbs of melbourne remember, high crime rate. Oh, this was all out of info you posted on here, remember theives read forums, work stuff out and hunt for cars that are modded.
  15. What you are talking about here touches on a larger issue and that is public opinion. The general public see images on the tv made to be viewed a certain way, instantly all owners of high performance cars are painted with the same brush and made out to be hoons with no respect for the law or the safety of others. The police are then tasked according to public opinion, ie, they pull over modified cars. With any car that is now a few years old there is probably some fault with it that makes it unroadworthy, even if only for "a bullsh** technical reason" the car is still not in roadworthy condition. The police dont have to prove that your car is unroadworthy to issue a defect notice, they only need to suspect something is wroing, issue the notice and know that you as the owner now have to establish the car is ok to drive. (getting a RWC) The stories of police targeting young drivers have existed for years, perhaps lately with public opinion focused on "hoons" it has become more obvious and their approach more direct, but over the years police have targeted cars that are modified, older, have P ( police magnet) plates on them etc. Your side is that you are honest, your car is legal and your not a hoon. Their side is that getting illegally modified cars off the road is a public safety issue. Either viewpoint could be argued as correct as debated round and round in circles. But, in this story the fact remains that you do have an illegally modified car, you got busted and now need to fix it. Unfortunately the price for owning a cool car is not just lots of pus#y, but lots of unwanted attention also.

http://www.vicroads.vic.gov.au/NR/rdonlyre...8340/0/VSI8.pdf This is the vicroads vehicle standards info on general modifications. Please see section 8 for the part on wheels and tyres. You wont need an engineers and provided the 20's work out to the VSI you should have no problem clearing your defect.

    Turbo Installer

just remember these equations with performance work or parts good + cheap = not fast fast + cheap = not good good + fast = not cheap Northern Suburbs, best guy - Gary - Manual Autos - 03 94662572
  18. your park brake sensor on the unit should be looking for a negative signal. Just ground that wire from the head unit to a good source of negative ( chasis) and you should be fine.
  19. hektik bro, ma cuz jus got 600db with 55 MEGAVOX subs in his wr-xl
  20. This discussion is pointless. There are so many variables and opinions it really cant be listed as to the best speakes. Are you considering the amount of money spent on marketing? Build quality? power handling? bang for buck? availability? reliability? color? shape? the way it was installed? amp? headunit? mouse on a treadmill? what sort of pwer does it need/ get? A commom thing people do whan comparing two speakers is to forget about a lot of the particulars. Are you comparing a set that is high in one brands range to entry level in another brand? A good quality speaker might sound crap with a poor instalation. I have seen it at shows and in stores time and time again, "my xxxxxxx system kills yours" The repsonse, " yeah it should, you spent 10 times what i did." So maybe to make it fair and resonable, how about putting some parameters around the assessment process. That way people can give you a rank based on something real and not just an opinion influenced by jazzy marketing or one car that just happened to sound ok. After all there are speakers out there for cars that are worth MORE than the car they are installed into.
  21. the ones in the cig lighter are crap, correct. There is another type that is hardwired into the antenna line and powered directly off the car. Most commonly used in dm stackers and now in dvd systems into car with no aux in you get very little loss of sound and none of the drama with the cheap crap cig lighter type ones.
  22. The kicker IX is the cheap line of kicker, so dont let the badge fool you. It produces 40wrms or so at 4 ohm, but dont expect to much over that, the hertz speakers are 125wrms claimed input power, that is alot for a speaker and would most like only be acheiveable after running a high pass xover on the amp to chop off all the low bass. Honestly, ebay the kicker, go for something more grunty that will run it easier. Something like THIS AMP would give you more than enough with a couple of spare channels to run some subs.
  23. why dont you just use a fm convertor that will will effectively give you RCA aux in thru one of your fm stations 89.1 or something. Cheap, easy and done many times with no problems.
  24. Hi Kaz, From my understanding of the requirements of additional lighting the following points must be considered in relation to under car neons/led 1. the light source cannot be visible only the glow 2. the lights cannot flash or spin 3. there must be a seperate on/off switch for them 4. they must be installed with a seperate circuit with appropriate fusing, wire etc in a safe manner 5. Red lights cannot face forward outside the vehicle 6. red and blue cannot be seen at once ( brake/tail lights red, neon blue) this is bad 7. colors generally used safely are green, orange, purple 8. products fitted must be designed for the intended use 9. lighting cannot impede entry to/ exit from the vehicle 10. ground clearance must be maintained as for interoir neons/leds same guidelines so under dash lighting up footwells is ok. But, having said that. I have fitted to them to many cars over the years and can certainally be an attention getter. Sometimes though, it is the wrong type of attention.
  25. Please note, I am not a cop, have never been a cop, dont ever intead on being a cop and generally have the same lack of trust in them as everyone else. I do however have a few senior contacts within TMU that are personal friends and I ask them stuff when I want to know. Cheers
