  1. all RB boxes have the same bolt up pattern. you may need a different tailshaft though. if you were using a rb20 gearbox behind a rb25det though, it wouldn't last that long if you gave it a hard time
  2. yes it could be fitted, but it won't run. the rb30 bore is the same diameter as the rb25, but the stroke is 13.3mm longer, so the piston will be 13.3mm lower at TDC than with the rb30 crank. so the compression with me drastically lower than standard (you'd have higher pressure in your tyres than in the combustion chamber). of course you could overcome this with aftermarket conrods (expensive), but then all you would end up with is a rb25 with a taller block (won't have 3L capacity) and no VCT. so you would spend a heap of money to make a stock rb25 worse than stock
  3. have you tried swapping the globes with your working globes?
  4. the existing fan wiring isn't all that suitable for running thermos from memory, as it runs of a little bit higher temp than what you really want. as for cooling fans though, you are better off with the viscous clutch fan. the power loss of them compared to a thermo is bugger all, and they work just fine. if you are adamant on going thermo though, either go a big single, or a GOOD set of twins that have a shroud already fitted (without a shroud you will cook the engine very quickly, probably in your first drive). something like the thermos from a late model falcon are a good choice (and have been used before by other members on the forum). or some other factory thermos from fwd cars would also do the job
  5. from what i am aware, the ecu itself is interchangable. sometimes you just need to swap a wire or 2 on the loom
  6. maybe try asking all your questions in the one thread instead of starting a new one to ask a simple question
  7. i often hear tourists on the sunny coast complaining about QLD drivers. what they don't realise is that given the influx of southerners to the sunny coast over the years, there is probably more southerners driving around in cars with QLD plates than actual QLDers
  8. a few other pics of gympie somewhere under there is the highway, and my way to work...... the aircon units you can see are on the roof of the telstra shop the main street of gympie the rotunda in the park behind the main street (same park as the fallen tree)
  9. 24 hours later, here's a pic of that same tree
  10. does that come with eccu and wiring loom? cause you will need all of that too. so all up with the engine and fitting you will be looking at over $1000.
  11. took this pic today. it's the park behind the main street of gympie. at the time i took it (about lunch time), the water wasn't into this park and was about 1.5m below the level of this tree. it's now under water.
  12. then it will cost a fair bit. quite a few hundred. it would probably be cheaper in the long run to sell your car and buy one with it in there stock.
  13. depends on how much of the work you can do yourself.
  14. when you push the clutch in it moves the clutch fork which pushes the throw out bearing against the clutch pressure plate to release the clutch. if the radiator fan isn't spinning either then 1 of 2 things is going on. either the clutch for the fan is shot, or it is siezed and the belt isn't able to spin it, which may also be part of the squeal you are getting when you take off.
  15. My brother lives in Bundy, but he's on the south west side (not far from where the highway comes into town). He doesn't get affect by the flooding and didn't get any of the tornados, etc. Said it was pretty darn windy even where he is though. Got pretty windy in Gympie last night though. There were unconfirmed reports of tornados here. When I went into the kitchen this morning one of the screens from a window had been blown out, and another was half out.
  16. we've had over 300mm since yesterday morning in gympie. has cleared now (still a bit of cloud about, but no rain since lunch time). we are isolated though. highway is cut north and south, east and west. we are expecting a flood peak of about 21m (the river doesn't break the banks till about 11m). but gympie is a town used to floods, so not many houses are affect, but half the CBD goes under water. this is our 3rd flood in 3 years. this time last year i was at work in noosa when the highway was cut. managed to get home the following day by taking a heap of back roads
  17. Powersteering pump is probably cactus Throwout bearing on the clutch is probably the cause of the squeal And the thermofan on the front if the radiator is only an over temp fan. It isn't supposed to work all the time
  18. was talking to one of the regulars at work today. his mate has a new Q7 in NZ. he had it for about 2 weeks before his missus clipped a gutter and shagged a tyre. $1300 later........... then the following week a vallet at a carpark hit a gutter or something and shagged a rim (took a big chunk out of the lip of the rim). also within the first month of having it he had the bike rack on the back and accidently hit the boot release button and it opened up into the bike rack, putting 2 dings in the boot door. i guess that's a bit of karma catching up after he won 31 million in lotto at the start of last year............
  19. running an ecu from an engine that is designed to have lower compression and a turbo bolted to it isn't going to be helping one bit. it may even be causing some serious damage to your engine, depending on what the AFR's are like.
  20. what makes you think they failed the car because they don't know about skylines? all the things they check on a rwc are the same whether it's a commodore or a ferrari. what sort of things did they fail you for? that way we can give you an idea on whether they are the sort of thing that even a more leniant workshop may not pass.
  21. they actually have the SR16VE, not SR20VE. no pulsar ever came with the SR20VE as standard.
  22. it's a bit of work to put a 25 head onto a 30 bottom end, and does require an aftermarket ecu. you may run into legality issues of putting a rb30e into your r33
  23. hayes brakes are shit. no 2 ways about it. the older shimano are ok, but not that powerful (unlike the new stuff). the new stuff has a few issues though. they suffer from getting a long lever as the pads wear (doesn't keep adjusting as the pads wear). a few of our sponsored riders we have to keep pumping them up every few weeks (pumping up is when you take the wheel out and squeeze the brakes to get the pads to move in a bit closer together). and yeah, dot fluid brakes suffer a bit from moisture and locking up when it gets hot, but it's easy enough to fix. you just have to undo the bleed screw on the lever a few turns until it releases the pressure in the line.
  24. yeah disconnecting the heater hoses is the easiest thing. just look at the firewall on the passegers side of the engine bay. you will see 2 hoses that connect to the firewall. those are the heater hoses. you need to disconnect them and join them together
  25. yes, tax wise they are marginally better off with imported vehicles, however without ford and holden there wouldn't be the tarrif, so they wouldn't be much better off. but at the same time, they are also better off tax wise with ford and holden being there, because instead of them only getting the GST and import tarrif and the small amount of income tax from the dealers, with ford and holden manufacturing cars here, they also get the income tax from all the employees, plus all the company income tax from holden and ford australia. from an uneployment point of view, there would be a few hundred or thousand employees of the factories that would be directly affected, but also then the engineers, the companies that supply ancillery parts (i know that mitsubishi used to supply a lot of the power steering parts for the VX and AU era of cars), metal suppliers, etc. so the impact would be large, although not all of it immediate.
