We Need To Extract More Power
Nismodified replied to nismoman18's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
any one dyno'd their car before and after the extractors were fitted? -
surely this cant be true can it? Then so many 4 door cars sneak through this way, evo's , wrxs, V8's, turbo 6's But if its true, then COOL !!!!!

Question About Exhaust Systems
Nismodified replied to SillyFlyFresh's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
i like the crackleling popping noises but thats me it happens to me usually when i back off the throttle on decent revs. It should be cause by unburnt fuel passing into the exhaust system. A simply solution to get rid of the popping, if your not using 98octane fuel, then a switch to optimax, synergy or ultimate may clear up or at least reduce the noises. -
larger everything mite change the "volumetric efficiency", i think thats what its called. In other terms, you mite find that you lose a bit or lower end torque, but gain more top end, pending on the changes you make. Though i would LOVE to see 6 throttle barrels of the side of an RB25DE !

Learn to appreciate all cars and car makes. Learn to judge something upon its own merits, not on the reputation that you have given it. Learn to understand that Ford didnt spend 10years in order to build the XR6T engine, but it took 10years for the demand of the customers and the need to maintain competitiveness in the market for them to produce that engine. I am done with your ignorance.

what to lookout for in service
Nismodified replied to streamer's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
timing belt needs to be done for you soon if not already done. Recommended to be done every 100,000 kms it usually takes about 3-4hours of work, and costs all about $200-300 -
The contradiction lies in the fact that you say ford engines are crap. You proceed to say their XR6T is a Very good. Regardless of how long you think it took them to produce that engine, its tuning potential, its specifications and relativity to other engines, Ford STILL produced a, 'crap' engine that you deemed has "similar SPECIFICATION to something like a RB26"

i have an mpeg on my computer of an NSX, cant remmeber which version, it was dragging a car down the quarter mile, and it was driven by a qualified driver. it did 12.9 secs stock. It was drag racing an R33 GTR, which did a 12.7 pass. We are talking about the fastest times ever, regardless of which year model and so on, the australian NSX's have generally been crap in yardstick acceleration figures. We dont get the best nsx's here, and the ones tested in the magazines are fast at all. That R34 GTR that was in wheels magazine was an N1 spec, and it was modified, and u want to compare it against a stock australian NSX?

mite as well post up a GTR vs GTST vs WRX thread while we are at it. as we all know, launching a WRX is one of the few simply joys in life. No other car can accelerate as well as a WRX..after it bogs down ...
-
And yet you refer to the XR6T engine with praise and approval, even comparing it to the RB26DETT. Your recent post is a contradiction, and shows you have no thought or conviction in your own words.
-
why not? is it because you think ford make crap engines? is it because you dislike the way the car looks? making a N/A car produce big power figures isnt hard, making it have a decent spread of torque across the rev range IS hard. Look at honda Vtec engines, they make very good power for NA cars, but the reason why their engines are good isnt because they produce high numbers, its because they can still produce resaonable torque across the rev range AND also have healthy peak power figures.

i recently was taking for a ride in a corollo of the current generation, but not the sportivo 141kw version. to my suprise, he had a good amount of grip, especially having 4 guys in the car as well. Driving in my own car along side him, there would be much of a contest in straight line, as soon as u were in the fun zone, last 3000rpm of your tacho, you would pull away easy.

Question About Exhaust Systems
Nismodified replied to SillyFlyFresh's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
ive been thinking about making myself a straight thru pipe for sometime now.. within the next few weeks i have access to this computerised oxy cutters and welding gear, i should be able to cut some flanges out of 5-10mm metal plate....2.5" piping wont be hard to get,...weld me up a straight through pipe....for off road private use of course -
The RB20DE is a good engine, revs hard, and produces around 105kw at the engine, nice figures but nothing brialliant for a 2.0L. the RB25DE makes 142kw, which is quite a healthy figure for any 2.5L, the first of the porche boxters had a 2.5L and that made 150kw, just for reference sake. Now, think about this, there is rougly say 40kws difference in engine power, not that much these days. But try getting an RB20DE to make 142 kws whle been n/a, it wont be fun or easy or worthwhile. bad thing about an Rb25de, is that it will almost be certain to be accompanied with an R33 body, a small number of Rb25's came in the lighter R32

i cruise with silvia's (s13,s14,s15 various mods) on a weekly basis, and have had friends with the cars in question. If your a damn good driver, then you wont get beaten so badly whilst in a Ca-T. Those Ca's rev high, their redlines are high, but they simply dont produce enough tourque at those higher revs and simply run out of puff above 6ish. If anything, im a bit bias towards S13's rather then skylines.

Question About Exhaust Systems
Nismodified replied to SillyFlyFresh's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
dont know why, but i love hearing the car hit the rev limiter cut out. i do it all the time, i think the passengers are always freaked out. Boooarrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr-Brrr-Brrr-Brrr-Brrr-Brrr-Brrr-Brrr -
If we are talking Ca equiped silvia's/180. then its no contest. i storm right past the turbo model, and the non turbo wouldnt even be close. No top end IMO. havnt had the chance to gauge my self against an Sr as yet.

need to take the engine out to change the timing belt. But their damn sexy and id love to have one.

Question About Exhaust Systems
Nismodified replied to SillyFlyFresh's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
i dont get that sort of noise, but i know of another Rb25DE that does have a similar noise u described mine has a very deep note, but its hard to describe since im always inside the car when it revs thru the rev range -
very much appreciate the time u took to write that. great read, and it brings a tear to my eye.

i was probaly the first R33 that Jetspeed ever put a kit on. This was a while ago, i wasnt happy with the results and their professionalism (i.e lack of). Things mite have changed since then, but i doubt it.
