  1. Try fuel pump.. i have seen a FMIC show up a weak fuel pump and do exactly as you are explaining.
  2. High 14's or so stock. 14 flat with exhaust, filter, clutch and 14psi. 13.3 with above + T3/T4. 12.7 with above + intercooler, fpr. I was quite happy with the old GTS-4, for the money it went very hard. Payed a lot more for a GTR and went down to low 12's.. :headspin:
  3. We make sure when we pop them to shut them off straight away and get a tow. Just incase the turbo did go through the engine.. every second = major damage. So it all happens at the same time in one big boom.. wheel is there the first second, next the engine is full of abrasive crap.. It's just one of those things. And for those of you with stock turbo's reading this.. be careful. Please have your engine checked after you blow a ceramic turbo.
  4. Well it's usually on GTR's with stock cams etc.. just intake, exhaust and around 1 bar. I don't see it on the GTS-T as much, I think because they don't handle boost as well that would pop the turbo, and being a single turbo. Most people upgrade to a VG30 or similar and run less boost. What about taking into account the speed the turbine wheel is spinning at when the engine is doing 8000rpm? 10-50X more? The last car wasn't under load when it blew though.. so I would say boost wasn't that high it was purly revs. (2WD clutch drop in snow..) We don't keep the stock turbo's with mods over filter and exhaust.. but there are still quite a few GTR's down here getting round with stock turbo's. We did push them out to an 11.6 on one GTR before they popped (this was the first time we saw contamination and were very confused) I am actually scared to drive a GTR with stock turbo's these days.. I just see $$$$. Any other ideas on why.. ?
  5. It's more that the ceramic grinds up and becomes very abbrasive. A bit of steel goes into the bore.. it's probably going to stay more solid or get blown back out the exhaust.
  6. Roy.. the compressor is not ceramic, and still completely intact after it blows. It's like the X-Files. I would love to see it filmed happening, would be damn interesting.
  7. I know of people who didn't listen.. then went and bolted new turbos on before checking the engine. Wondered why after a few k's the car suddenly lost compression and some even seized there oil pump after the ceramic went past the rings and into the oil system.. It's like a cancer really I will take some photo's when we get the head of the latest victim.. this car has a fresh rebuild 3000k's ago! and low k stock GTR turbo's. He wishes he listened to me when I said upgrade the turbo's to a non ceramic.
  8. I think you can get aftermarket RB30 rods a lot cheaper than RB26 due to them being similar to some V8's? RB26 rods are more unique.
  9. Yes a believer! Why do you people think they design split pulse manifolds.. the exhaust gases pulse.. so there is plenty of time for ceramic to get into your engine.
  10. Well I have seen it happen on say 4-5 GTR's and a few GTS-T's.. dosn't always happen but IT DOES HAPPEN!! Dosn't seem to happen to GTS-T's quite as much.. maybe due to GTR's having 2 turbo's and the manifold design etc makes them worse. I will take photo's of the bore and the turbo, I though you of all people would have seen this one SydneyKid, but as you said you don't know everything. There is always at least on exhaust valve still open it's a 4 stroke engine Roy.... so obviously the explosion is so great it sends the dust and bits up one of the open valves and into the cylinder.. Give me another explanation why there are bits of an "EXHAUST" wheel sitting in a bore in the garage at the moment.. and it got there just after it blew the front turbo up??? Over rev's and kaput.. really hoped it didn't happen to yet "another one" but the bore camera showed the truth. All three front bores were scored.. one worse than the others.. but only the front 3, and it was the front turbo that blew?? coincidence? People have argued this with us before.. it's not until they see it happen and wonder how there bore became so scored that they face it. If someone can give me a good reason how the exhaust wheel magically gets into the bore other than that.. then by all means tell me!!! But a missing exhaust wheel and the bore camera with bits of ceramic sitting in the bore on screen.. I can't see another reason.
  11. Is your engine actually alright? I mean, in most cases I have seen where a GTR turbo has blown the ceramic wheel.. there are signs of ceramic in the bore. Need to get the mini camera out and check it before planning anything alse.. full rebuild may have you saving a bit more
  12. I agree... The Profec had me pulling my hair out. EVC, easy
  13. Would they be much better than your stock GTR turbo's.. I think the early SR20DET uses T25 turbo's.. so they probably do fit. You can get your stock GTR turbo's rebuilt to the same specs. I would recommend buying decent turbo's though.
  14. Yep should be fine. I would recommend doing a fresh rebuild on an engine if you don't know it's history.. and want to run it at a higher power level than stock. Run non ceramic turbo's also.. one blown ceramic turbo can eat a GTR engine!
  15. Very simple mod to the sump is needed to fit the pickup.
  16. I was saying he didn't need to worry.. I had to change the tacho in my car as I went from 4 to 6 XR8Eater. The RB26 is an animal Best to do the turbos to a non ceramic at the same time though..
  17. 2GU UP 2, maybe the price for that car dosn't add up.. i agree. But maybe he got ripped off? I know if I didn't do all my own work and get good deals.. my car would have cost me a hell of a lot. And it's not even show standard, or finished. Xr8 eater. The Gearbox will bolt right up. Best to use a Rb25DET box however. Speedo can be modded any way that is needed so thats not a problem. Revs is fine. This is only a problem when changing engines with a different amount of cylinders. Eg, 4cyl to 6.. still not a big problem. Engine mounts are the same.
  18. Well as I said, every GTR I have ever seen or installed a EVC on has got pressure post intercooler.. should be ok for your car too. Yes I know it's best to get the reading pre intercooler so it's getting the actual pressure the turbo is creating.. but unless you have a huge pressure drop at your intercooler.. it's really not going to matter. It has never caused me any problems.. a .05bar spike is ok There must be a line that feeds pressure to the wastegate solenoid or you would be free boosting..?
  19. Well I have got a lot of useful information from SDU from the past 5 or so Years I have been there. Don't know what you mean by green nugget?.. unless you mean the Green GTS-T which most definetly has had $100k spent on it. Which is very easy to do when building a show car... you will find out when you run out of money the first month in. And without that site I doubt this one would have started or be as good as it now is. And comparing the Bathhurst GTR's to one you may see on the street or own... a little different.. Anyway... sorry xr8eater. Yes an RB26 in a R33 would be nice.. RB30 is good too. Depends what you want. But as you first asked.. no not worth making a Rwd R33 GTS-25T into a 4WD GTR.. start with a 4WD chassis if your doing that.
  20. Need a 6 cyl tacho.. A31 Cefiro bolts right in.
  21. I meant that in there were not a lot of Skyline owners in aussie 5 years or so ago.. not that many people had seen a GTR.
  22. Hey mate, don't appreciate that. We started the online skyline thing probably before most of you even knew what a Skyline looked like. The internet is full of bullshitters, I don't see how NZ forums are any worse.. :bs!: Coming from someone who drives a pink GTS.. i take it with a grain of salt..
  23. I can't belive some of you are supporting auto's.. I owned an auto skyline for about 1 month before it drove me nuts and I chucked a manual in it. Never had a auto again. Auto is good for cruising.. it ends there. (waits for people to talk about drag auto's etc)
  24. 278 in a Mitsi GTO TT, closed road flying 1/4. Around 280 in a GTR, but no official timing gear, just going off revs/gear.
