  1. I was afraid the answer would be somewhat like that ... Cheers, Andrew
  2. Hi there from London .. I have the same question -> "What ECU are you using??" I was told there is no Nistune for the R33GTST .. Cheers, Andrew
  3. Hi there, Many thanks for the input. I recon the bell mouth unit would be a good choice since I see no added benefit to the elbow with the tiny swing gate pipe. However I was reading through the downpipe mounting thread and what I don't want is a downpipe without heat shields mount holes. Nissan put the heat shields in for a good reason and I don't want to end up with melted plastic parts anywhere near the elbow/down pipe. Cheers, Andrew
  4. Well, I have done my homework, and now I know what the Elbow is, and where it sits. So is it worth buying a new elbow while I'm at it? Cheers, Andrew
  5. Hello there, I have this R33GTST and was thinking about an aftermarket downpipe (if that's of use to reduce backpressure??) The car is genuine, except for a larger exhaust .. but I'm planning on upping the boost a bit soon (and later maybe fitting a R34 intercooler) I was told spoolup time would decrease? (is this noticeable with my setup?) Since I'm quite new to the car I'm a bit lost about choosing the right product .. Can you help me out? (and what's this elbow for??) Here are the links to different products (please advice): Cheers from London, Andrew http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Nissan-Skyline-R33-S...%3A1|240%3A1318 http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Nissan-Skyline-R33-R...%3A1|240%3A1318 http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/NISSAN-SKYLINE-STAIL...%3A1|240%3A1318 And where sits this one:? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/NISSAN-SKYLINE-RB20-...%3A1|240%3A1318
  6. Hi Paul, I'll couldn't find it in the manual, but that's why I asked since I got so many different infos on the topic. Many thanks, Andrew
  7. Hi, And thanks for the answers... Since I have no boost gauge I can not check .. but I think it has to be 5 and 7 since otherwise people won't boost to .9 with an extra boost controller. (correct me if I'm wrong ....) Cheers, Andrew
  8. Hello from London, Can anyone give me the specs of the standard fuel pump on a 1997 R33 GTST? (pump pressure, litre per hour) Cheers from London, Andrew
  9. Hello from London, (I know this information must be hidden within the forum somewhere but I didn't find) I was wondering what the standard boost pressure is on a 1997 R33 GTST Spec II? Cheers, Andrew
  10. Hello to Oz from London, I have bought an R33 Spec II 1997 genuine (unmolested) car recently. I would like to improve the car in a moderate and aesthetic way without ripping too much apart or ending up with a messy looking engine bay What benefit would I get from a stainless steel exhaust manifold or an aftermarket downpipe? (The R33 has a catback 3'' aftermarket exhaust) Or asked another way: What modification would you recommend to improve performance (my target would be 300HP for the time being)? Since the car is a daily commuter and grocery getter, drivability is paramount. So I'm more interested in higher torque figures than a peaky power curve. Cheers, Andrew
  11. Hi! Thanks for pointing this out, since I'm quite new to Skylines As for the AFM there seems to be a mesh of wires inside, compared to a single wire prior to S2. Cheers, Andrew
  12. So does that mean that coil packs have to be specifically for S2 if you buy a replacement? And how about the ECU then? Cheers from London, Andrew
  13. Here's my reply (almost 4 year later though) I have recently bought a (1997) series 2 with a nice factory fit (glass) sunroof ... Cheers, Andrew
  14. Hi Terry, Good point! I'll see after the coolant ... I don't want any rust in the system .. In addition I spotted a huge dragon fly that dented the AC condenser (sits before the water cooler) maybe the dragon fly is from Japan .. since it has Godzilla size however the AC seems to be working in order (apart from a gurgling sound) What an adventure ... but I am starting to like it Cheers, Andrew
  15. Hi Terry, Thanks for the information, much appreciated. I tried driving to Abbey Motor Sports for an Oil change. http://www.abbeymotorsport.co.uk/ However they wanted to charge 125 GBP, that's 270 AUD. I found that too expensive, since my car is not modified and not pushed hard at the moment. However, my oil looks a bit on the used side, and since I don't know how the car was serviced I'd like to have an oil change soon. The spark plugs would be worth changing as well (unless they look alright) I will not go for pricy iridium, rather for copper or platinum. The air filter has been changed already by me, the old one looked a bit clogged: http://www.strangelanding.com/skyline/filter.jpg As for the battery I'm inclined buying a new one, but for now the old battery seems to be in good health. Cheers, Andrew
  16. Hi Marsss, Gad you like the threat since I thought I might bore people to death. I actually heard first about the Skyline in 2005 in a (UK) TV-Series called Top Gear (not a very good series by now). They showed some crazy Japanese people on a drag strip and the commentator mentioned that they were using a Skyline which could be easily tuned to insane HP. (I had now idea what a Skyline was, but I quite liked the name of the car and it somehow stuck with me) A year later I was working in Tokyo for 8 months and on my daily commute trough Tokyo I saw a Skyline for the first time for real. (Of course I had forgotten about the Top Gear reportage, but when I saw the car it all came back to memory) The driver was a normal looking family guy in a suit and the car was looking quite standard. I liked the car from the moment I saw it and when it disappeared into Tokyo's traffic the thought was born to buy one ... 2 years later I finally bought a Skyline (after having seen about 5 and doing much research). Cheers, Andreas
  17. Hi Tez, Yes .. the battery was/is sealed, that's correct. I could not find anything on the specs .. do you have any? (what's good for the R34 should be fine for the R33) As for my first contact with the Skyline: I drove the car home safely, and taking no chances with revving the engine or anything. It was a smooth ride and I was really impressed with how well the suspension/steering worked. Every bump in the road was firmly ironed out without being too soft or too firm. Compared to my former BMW with a M-Tech (Sachs) suspension the Skyline did sooo much better!! The only thing that bugged me was the loud exhaust which is an Apex (3.5) straight through system. It was way too loud for daily driving .. (nice sound though) Next day at home I browsed the classified section at www.skylinowners.com and found a guy just an hour drive away who was selling a complete genuine R33 exhaust. (He thought I was insane since no one ever goes back to the original system it seems) And .. he offered me to fit it for a few extra quid on his driveway. (He had done it about 4 times recently and knew exactly how to position the car) An hour later I had the original exhaust under the car and the Apex in the boot And as for power I think the original exhaust delivers more torque at low to mid rpms .. Cheers, Andreas Here's the (good) guy fitting the exhaust:
  18. Well, I just want to continue my story with the Skyline .. I have finally picked it up in the UK .. that was a week ago. (it stood 3 months in a garage space where the dealer kept it for me) ) It was a bright sunny day, so I was quite lucky with the conditions. I took the train from London Waterloo and got out at my station 80 minutes later. The dealer said he had the car prepared, but when I arrived atthe dealership the battery was dead and the car would not start. I opened the bonnet and could not find the battery .. LOL .. a new car to me. The dealer was helpful and offered to replace the battery if they had one .. So the Skyline went back to the Lexus-Workshop and some mechanic (a former Nissan mechanic) located the battery in the boot and removed it. I was a a bit surprised about this tiny and light battery .. never seen one of these before. They put it on a charger and I went for a walk to kill some time. By chance I came across an auto part warehouse, but they wouldn't know anything about Skylines. I roamed to store and checked the batteries they had and there was one Nissan Micra battery that looked like a close match. (only 50 quid) So I measured this Micra battery and walked back to the Lexus deal (about an hour later) When I arrived they said the Skyline battery wouldn't draw much current from the charger - not a good sign. We agreed to give it one more try with the old (recharged) battery. I installed it myself and for some reaon the battery was quite warm from the charging process. I turned the key, and the engine came to live with a healthy noise from the starter motor. I took my chances and drove the 140km back to London .. (but that's another story to continued here) BTW: I found out that my GTS-T is a 1997 SPECII model Cheers, Andrew
  19. Yes they have, not sure about the absolute levels: http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/TravelAndTrans...ent/DG_10025601 I might settle for an exhaust with bearable noise levels but power potential. Right now the car is stock as stock can be http://www.strangelanding.com/skyline/lee.jpg
  20. Hello to AU! Thanks for the replies .. much appreciated! I have bought a used but original exhaust near London and the guy who sold it was very forthcoming and offered to install the thing right on his driveway for a little extra $$$! Within 60 minutes he had changed the APEX to the original and I owe him for his help. I still have the APEX exhaust and will keep it for future use. It's so nice driving with a more silent exhaust and I think the low end torque has much improved. (Though I miss the bad exhaust roar a bit) As for top end power I can not report for anything different (I drove 500km only and mostly in denser traffic) And since I'm completely new to the Skyline and the oil looks like it needs a change I have not pushed it at all. (did not go over 4500 pm due to traffic and the car being new to me) That's about it from my side Cheers from London, Andrew
  21. Hi there from London.. Here's the situation: I recently bought a Skyline R33-GTST with an Apex(i?) exhaust installed. It's what they call a straight through system, with no middle muffler. The problem is, it's way too loud and draws lots of attention (good and bad) and it has to go! Besides I don't like the look of the gigantic rear muffler where one could put an arm in. I quite like the original double exhaust look (rear muffler) I was thinking: Maybe I could take an original R33 muffler and exchange it with the Apex rear muffler. It would take some welding (for an adapter to adjust the diameter) but that is no problem .. Here's my question: Has anybody ever made such a modification, that is removing the middle muffler but keeping the original rear one? If 'YES' .. what type of noise level can I expect from such a modifaction? Thanks for the input ... any thought on this is highly welcomed .. Cheers, Andrew
  22. Yes mate(s), I'm in London, and we are still in the old year (10 hours to go) And it's quite cold, which is bad for humans but good for the intercooler I suppose;) Besides I just came back from a trip to Miami, so the drop in temperature levels is substantial My GTS-T is sleeping at a garage, and I will not pick it up before milder temperatures Cheers to Oz and Scotland, and that 2009 may be a better year than 2008 (not too many banks left) Andrew
  23. OK .. this is off topic .. But I wish all the folks here in the forum a happy and successful New Year 2009. Cheers from London, Andrew
  24. Hahaha! You have my full blessings, I'm not a winter type myself. I love the sun, swimming and the BBQ. Besides I have a dirtbike which I love riding as well, so I prefer open terrain without much traffic. If I add it all up, I should be moving to Oz already. For December (and I hate to say it ) it will be Miami (do they have Skylines over there?) Alrite ... off to breakfast I am Have a gorgeous weekend, Andrew
  25. Hi ... self -control and reasoning .. The thing is that it has become quite cold here in England, winter has arrived .. I want that the car is well kept away from all the misery on the streets. If it was spring or summer it would be a completely different story. In addition I don't have much time this month .. I have already ordered a Blatz cable and software to diagnose the engine and got possession of many manuals and files regarding the GTS-T. In my idle time I familiarize myself with the technology of the car .. interesting reading! I now got all the import documentation. There is an JUMVEA certificate stating that the original millage is 47,00km. Is that worth anything at all? Cheers from chilly London, Andrew
