*refunds Plattsy his 2 cents*
-
did you buy this GTR from a guy in Brisbane?
-
Sounds like you'll still be able to do pushing movements so triceps, chest, shoulders should all be fine to work. If you can get them to be the correct weight (like within a gram of each other) then it should be fine.. but also consider that buying brand new rubber coated plates which have handles built in and are the correct diameter and cost about $3 a kilo or less delivered, you'd better be making a decent saving. As for the rack, I can find you detailed plans of a power cage if you would like.
-
thing is, because they use proper thin metal 25kg plates, it doesn't look like much either Compared to say bumber plates or the chunky shitty rubber coated plates that most gyms have (and I have at home). Until you see the bar bend... lol especially in the deadlifts, they use a texas deadlift bar which has some flexibility to it. when loaded up with the likes of 300kg, there is a fair bit of bend in it.

hmmmm... got one more warning left... must resist.... -
Yeah Nick I thought the same about the judging from what I saw. the press calls were REALLY quick too. The judging is ALOT more strict at GPC Aus. Couple of Brisbane fellas lifting today Zach Turner - 140+ kilo, 19 year old, squats over 300kg, benches 180ish, dead around 250 Ricky Goodyear - around 105kg - 37 years old, he is opening on 300/190/290
-
just for those interested. A group of people from Aus went to the GPC WORLDS competition in Slovakia. There have been over 10 medal winners with a bunch of them being Gold. Main one so far, the Owner of PTC Brisbane Scott Wasson has set 2 World records (1 for deadlift and 1 for total) and 4 Aus records (squat, bench, deadlift and total) and won Gold. Scotts WR total (724.5kg - 257.5 squat, 165 bench, 302 deadlift) is an all time biggest total 90/93 raw in any fed in oz Some of the bigger fellas lifting today. If anyone is interested in watching the live feed you can here... http://www.powerlifter.cz/live/ It should be starting about 4pm AEST. I'm sure Markos will have more info and vids/pics etc when he returns

Hey man.. how much for the cage?
-
Why not lower the weight back down after your power cleans? Bumpers on to thick rubber mats should be fine on the concrete, but I'd say that you won't have too much problem lowering anything up to body weight.

Was looking around a Nike shop today.. they had a sale of some sort.. for about $90 I could have become a PT on the spot.

Guy must be a PT

OHP and neck pain (as in the pinching feeling and stiffness the next day) is usually not the neck but the scapula and lower trap (near your shoulder blades). it's a muscle strain type deal. some massage and rest will fix it in like 3-5 days. easiest way to get to it yourself is a tennis ball on the floor and lie on top of it so it against the spot between your shoulder blae and spine and slowly roll around. You'll know when you hit the spot. then man up and work it hard.
-
I'm never serious about anything... seriously.
-
I went an got a sports massage yesterday for lower back, glutes and hamstrings. oh the humanity!!!!
-
Wish I could afford to be on it to need to get off it.. lol
-
Hey Terry. How much for bottle of Deca and Stanazol? ahhhh,... choc mint flavour.
-
Depends if you've been using nostril enhancing supplements.
-
Because I like OEM parts where I can. Also more air for my radiator through the GTR core.
-
I've got an ARC return flow FMIC on my R32 GTST. It'll be getting replaced by a stock R32 GTR cooler.

Obviously I was being a little harsh about the leg shaving and collars etc. it's easy and fun to generalise so I do it. My issue is people who become *insert expert in something or other here* because they thought it would be a good way to make money and went and did a course to get a piece of paper that says they did a course and now know what to do. My opinion is that it doesn't mean shit that you paid a fee and did some classes and got your cert. Those people have no interest in making people better. they have an interest in making money. those people will always fail. Nick says his dad is a PT who specialises in helping old folks. He cares. he does his job because he wants to see someones life improve... and happens to get paid for it. But PTs in a gym (most) are there to carry a clipboard and tell self conscious people they are doing great and see you in 2 days etc etc, then NEXT!!! They spurt what they read in their textbooks written by people who wear lab coats. I guess PTs are there for the lazy so it makes their existance acceptable. Kasko - Let me know when you finish your course. I'll shout you these as a gift.
-
Well I wish both of you Tom and Kasko all the best with your careers. No use arguing my point over and over. as you said, you are young and can recover from mistakes etc. Hopefully it won't come to that.

lets say you charged $90 per hour (middle ground of the ranges you mentioned). How much do you have to pay the gym to use their stuff? How many clients do you get per day or per week? It's not like a 9-5 office job at all because wether you go on a lunch or meetings or Gym and Supps thread for 5 hours a day, you will get paid your 8 hours worth. as a PT, if you work for a gym, you get paid a salary of whatever. then I can't remember if they give you any extra for doing PT. If you have your own business, how many full hour sessions do you think you will get? You really need to know marketing more than PT to make a decent living in that job. How much does personal insurance cost? Weekly body wax? Advertising? Bright shoes? I guess you can claim some back on tax. if you do a group class out in a park - gotta get permits and shit from council. In the end, just like you would as an apprentice in a trade, you will spend the first few years of your PT job doing shit kicker work for a gym or dealing with people you wouldn't want to. If you can stick to it, and know how to find and keep clients, you'll do well. But it's ALOT of hard work.

Nah.. I'm just an internet know-it-all. It's just my opinion based on what I've seen and experienced. Nick - your dad is the minority and you know it. I work in Brisbane city. The place is flooded with fitness first, zest, good life, jetts and other $2 dollar shop style gyms. and I see the PTs out during lunch getting their subway rolls and orange juice (you know.... healthy). Every single one of them is solarium tanned, shaved down, and shiny, and about 70kg. there are the odd juiced up ones I see too. Overheard one of them talking to a potential client..."...yeah I work from 6am to about 8pm to be flexible for my clients.. it also gives me plenty of time to train myself" Fark that!!! I also see all these qualified PT's in their polyester polo shirts with the collar up and company log on it wearing the latest Nikes in fluro yellow handing out fliers for their gym or free PT session or flapping a poster about the gym. Sounds like fun. They are NOT taught any strength training principles in their courses. Their job is to make the customer feel good about themselves and write their workout for them. As Nick pointed out, there are exceptions to my opinion but it's rare. More common to see them teaching people to half squat or something on a Fit ball. Always with the f**king fit ball.
