I thought my clutch fluid reservoir was empty but it turns out the fluid in there is really translucent. Is that normal? It's a different colour to that of the brake fluid.

Can I use the same brake fluid for the clutch as in the brake fluid reservoir? What brand would you recommend? It says use only DOT 3 on the brake reservoir. See link below for pic of reservoir in question. http://imageshack.us...eengbaytxt.jpg/

There is a small reservoir on the left hand side and towards the back of the R33 engine bay that says its for brake fluid. The adjacent larger brake reservoir specifies DOT 3 brake fluid only on the cap. But the smaller reservoir doesn't specify any DOT standard on the cap. Would I put the same brake fluid in there as the larger adjacent brake fluid reservoir? Why are there 2 brake fluid reservoirs anyway?

So I just changed my fuel filter (Ryco Z201) and for the moment the 'electronic' sound has disappeared. Fingers crossed this is the solution!

Is there any soldering required when installing a Walbro 255? (model GSS342) Also do these aftermarket fuel pumps have a loud whine? I don't want anything louder than the Nissan OEM fuel pump.

Of course; but would also mean that a lot of cars on the road would be considered unroadworthy if using it as a yardstick.

I asked Nissan what the clearance should be and they said "100mm". So I'm not sure where this adage/myth of 'height of a Coke can' comes from? Standard Coke cans are 130mm unless they are referring to mini Coke cans.

It's hard to tell; but I don't think so. The whine sound in your clip seems to get louder with the rpms. Sounds like a combination of turbo spool & pod filter suction. From what you described it sounds the same. It's like a constant 'electronic' whine sound that doesn't change in pitch regardless of the revs and stops 2 seconds after the foot off the accelerator. I'm not sure if it is the fuel pump because when you get into the car and turn the key, you can hear the fuel pump activate; and this sound is different to this 'electronic' whine when you touch the accelerator pedal Did you find out what was the cause?

Did you work out the issue Keaton? I have the same noise/symptom in my R33; except I haven't taken out the back seats. Everytime I use the accelerator a whining noise presents itself. After I take my foot off the accelerator, there is a 1-2 second delay until the whining noise disappears.

Cheers. I'm trying to be as thorough as possible as the workshop I went to has come under new management since I last visited and they come across as dodgy; so I'd like to have the facts on hand. A few years ago I got a yellow canary for the car being too low (the car passed Vic Roads new import inspection on the same springs!). So I had to get a RWC which included putting on standard height springs and take it to Vic Roads to get the height checked. The Vic Roads inspector simply had me sit in the car (no passenger) and ran a height check trolley under the car & it passed. I haven't changed anything to the ride height since I was cleared which baffles me as to why I'm now being told it's too low? Do you know where I can find an official Vic Roads reference as to requiring a passenger and 30kg of luggage? (Vic Roads themselves don't seem to know too much)

I just got a RWC report done on my R33 and it states "Exhaust system cat back too low" which I don't believe to be true as I've got standard springs and the car passed the last RWC to which I haven't changed anything since. I questioned the RWC workshop and they said I would need to produce evidence of this. So I called Vic Roads to ask them if they could run the height clearance trolley under my car and issue a report to which they said they can only do this for defected cars. I then asked the operator what the required clearance is but she didn't know exactly, but said to use the height of a 'Coke can' (130mm) as a guide. I did a bit of digging around and according to Vic Roads VSI 8 under Section 4. Ground Clearance: The ground clearance of a vehicle measured from a horizontal road surface to any point on the underside of the vehicle except the tyres, wheels, wheel hubs and brake backing plates shall, with the vehicle in its loaded state as specified by the manufacturer, be not less than: for any point in the width of the vehicle which is within one metre fore and aft of any axle, 100mm; for the mid-point between any two consecutive axles, the dimension in millimetres obtained by multiplying the distance in metres between those two axles by 33.33. I checked the ground clearance and the lowest point on my car (cat back) is 105mm. Second to this, I calculated the mid-point clearance by multiplying the distance between the axles (2.8m) by 33.33, which equals 93.324mm Therefore, by my calculations I am within the legal ground clearance requirement. Or is there something I am missing???

The spacing of the 2 long grooves running down the length on my original key are 'closer together' compared to the 'NATS' blank you are showing. Does your original key also have narrower grooves compared to the 'NATS' key?

The thread is based on aesthetics only, not technology. It has sort of turned into a "my favourite car is..." thread though. I think some shockers have been posted but it is all subjective & each to their own. The Countach was way way ahead of its time & imo is still one of the sexiest looking cars today. The Mark IV Supra's styling was also ahead of its time, and like others have said still looks good today for a car that came out 17 years ago which is hard to believe. Just as the Z32 300ZX came out in 1989, hardly anything on the road at the time could touch its sharp ultra modern looks and a nicely kept one still manages to turn heads today. The R34 GTR imo is the modern day evolution of muscle car looks. An fine amalgamation of boxy retro muscle with modern flair - it has an unmistakeable presence on the road. Similarly the R32 GTR was also cutting edge with its looks for the time. The Audi R8 is yet another example of a car that is miles ahead of its time. And the list goes on...
