the mmmgtir update - car gone, car coming
someonestolecc replied to Beer Baron's topic in New South Wales
woo glad to hear you sold your car. well.. glad but sad Good luck with the GT-R - cruise sometime -
I'm not sure about this but could it be the new cat ? I mean - the stuff in the cat becomes active because of the heat so maybe when it's new it starts to smell ? Only a theory. I have redline shockproof heavy for my mechanical when I get around to it..
-
That's the worst explanation I've ever heard Is it a sucking sound? Check your air filter it might not be cupped/tightened properly. Check your air intake pipe it might have loosened from the turbo. Is it a big boomy sound? Check your cat and exhaust a screw may have loosened from the dump pipe or near the cat. Is it a grindy noise? No idea check everything (could be the gearbox/wheel hub/engine who knows). Does it do it when you rev in neutral ? More info

Just out of interest if you consciously press the clutch in, wait half a second to a second then change gears does it go ok then? If so climb under the car and get someone to hit the clutch for your a few times to see if the slave is moving. It might not be engaging/disengaging properly. That what was grinding gears for me chronically - turned out the slave was never screwed in properly and it had 1 half undone bolt holding it in. Otherwise drive nicely and rev match to change gears like I do (till i get my box rebuilt).

Wohoo my car didn't blow up!

Question: The new manifold gets hell hot. I'm worried about the surrounding pipes and joiners. Especially the intercooler pipe and joiner coming next to it. I was thinking of making a shield like yours dumhed. Any chance I can pop over sometime or can you post some pics up? I'm gonna get this exhaust welded up on Saturday with any luck so afterwards would it be sweet to have a look at your setup? I might try to remake my airbox too with some clear perspex up top (for fun). Thanks. -

Hmm will any sort of hose do? I'd like it not getting sucked together so will automotive be the go or any hardware store one that looks decent? Just out of interest - if a bracket holds the afm and air filter up, won't it vibrate at the same rate as the chassis and stress it against the turbo which is vibrating at the rate of the engine? Or is that the job of the joiner? I mean - those things are still pretty solid, won't it be better for it just hanging from the joiner? Thanks for your input - learning alot here. -

meggala - haven`t pushed it far enough to notice - I`d like to get the exhaust from dangling on the manifold before taking it hard cos I can hear it rattle when I punch it- I`ll post up when it`s got some brackets. As for wrap I`m not confident it would hold up (especially for how much it cost). Also the few kw gain wouldn`t be worth me testing out if it would handle it dumhed - lol a harsh but accurate critique. Thanks again for helping out - I`ll get cracking on that intake pipe, cut it and chuck a joiner in - will that affect air flow too much ya reckon? -
That IS cool. I`d like some mounts to hold my exhaust up and a muffler to quieten it all down! Then a wheel alignment. Then some hks step 1 cams (264/264). Then the white blitz id III ebc. Santa are you getting all this? I hope everyone gets what they`d like. And if they don`t - have a merry xmas !

Wooohoo! Thanks Steve - checked and double checked that last night. Luckily dumhed came round and had a look - the daughterboard had coincidentally fallen out so he just plugged it back in and away she goes. :thankyou: Wrrrr sounds mean now without leaking and with the stainless manifold on!! Next mission: Get middle muffler and get some supports so the manifold ain't taking so much weight of the exhaust and find an extra nut + spacer thingy for the manifold. -

OK. I've replaced the turbo-manifold gasket, while I was there I thought I'd put in a stainless steel exhaust manifold too so I did that. Reconnected everything and blah .. car runs like crap, touch the accell and it dies, black smoke from the exhaust everywhere. I'm fearing the worst as the oil hole in the top of the engine smells like petrol - I'm hoping this is just me smelling the injectors or something. Will keep posted : *fingers crossed* -
Death To All Car Keyers!!!!

That's messed up. why do people sit there and consciously think to pull a key out to someone elses car? It should be a psychologically recognised condition.... (SAU members can provide the rehab) -

Drink driving and drug driving aren't the same. They've always thought that - the last election proves they're right. -
hahah I'm already printing them!!

[Advice Please] Argh! Exhaust Droooooone...
someonestolecc replied to Oosh's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Hmm thanks mate food for thought there. I've read that autospeed article too so I will have to specify a straight through middle muffler. I guess my idea is with flanges atleast I can replace it when it starts to flow badly... but as you say I guess a bit of pipe ain't worth that much to keep eh. Hopefully with that in place it won't be as loud and will still sound ok - if it doesn't ill go the kakimoto for a bit more of that nice purry sound or try to find myself a cannon styled muffler that does the job. Thanks for your help! As soon as I fix my exhaust manifold I'll be hunting around for this -
and more importantly does anyone make the trust copies for SRs and RBs ?

[Advice Please] Argh! Exhaust Droooooone...
someonestolecc replied to Oosh's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Good stuff drunken. Thanks for that I know what you mean. See theres two halves of me... when v8s or rotors pull up I think ha ha my little 2L sounds as nice. On the other half I gave my mum a lift the other day (first time shes been in the car) and as soon as she got in and I said hello I said "this car is rather loud isn't it?" I noticed she was raising her voice to say Yes. haha It's ok with the lads but yes I think I'll do what you did. Thanks for the prices - that helps to know what it's worth. Should I be getting flanges welded on so I can replace the centre muffler or just get it welded in? Also any recommendations re: where to obtain the muffler from? -

someonestolecc replied to Oosh's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
drunkenmaster - the name says it all O_o Well if I can get away with getting a good high flowing rear muffler then that'd be cheaper for me.. I'd just get a second hand muffler and either get it welded where my one is now is see if the pipe that connects to it can just connect to my middle pipe and be the right length/shape. Otherwise I have to pay some dudes to cut and weld a middle muffler in... then when that starts to die I'll have to get a whole new length of pipe (unless I pay them to put flanges on). I guess this has it's advantages too as then I don't have to get a new rear muffler and I get to keep my cannon. (the cannon itself isn't a high priority howeveR). I'm not sure I could get that for $200? I mean if you and S-Kid reckon just pay the man the money and get the pipe cut and get em to weld on flanges then stick a fatty muffler will do the trick and be the most economical and still give me good flow then I'll be happy to give it a go. One side of me really really wants to keep my car as it sounds... then the fact ceffo got done for $600 just for his exhaust being loud makes me think.. maybe I should be totally totally legal. The only thing to sway me at the moment is performance. If I can't get legal without degrading performance (much) then I might just tip the other way and try another muffler to make it a bit quieter but not quite legal. Know what i mean? -

Thanks but I don't have a smallish resonator. I have no resonator/middle muffler. And I thought p'raps the 5" tip would make it louder. *shrug* -
Removing airconditioning - better?
someonestolecc replied to justinfox's topic in Motorsport Discussion & Builds
If you don't need it - ditch it. If you use it even occasionally - I don't think the marginal gains will warrent taking it out. I don't have one but my car came without working AC, I just took out the condensor.. 1-2kg (makes up for my speakers) - never bothered me it has no AC but I know people who would die without it.
