double insurance question.
someonestolecc replied to skylinedrifter's topic in General Automotive Discussion
I thought about doing this as well. 3rd party for me ($700 or so) and comprehensive under my parents (prolly bout 1500-2500). I thought it was illegal that's why I didn't do it - might be worth having an ask around (i work at an insurer so i'll ask the technicals ) If it is legal then it might be a good go although I don't think it is because it would stand to reason that more people would do it. The insurers would recognise people did it, then adjusted their prices accordingly -

pitch - how much would it cost? are we talkin for the cefiro? dishhhh it... davo - could you please take a pic for me? And steel won't be great but the rubber will be. I'm thinking that the best stuff would be something like the stock box but that involves moulding, not cutting and welding so ideally yes that composite plastic stuff (i'm not sure what substance it is) would be ideal but... practicalities. I wonder what non-automotive shop does that sorta stuff? Like... people who make boats or something that could just whip something up from a design? -

Cefiro air filter pod heat shields EOI
someonestolecc posted a topic in Four Door Family & Wagoneers
Hey guys, Merry Xmas to all. Over xmas to get away from the relos I've been thinking of making up some heat shield templates (proper style) to produce for the cefiro. Considering there are none off-the-shelf stuff would anyone be interested to get a few made up (i'd be able to show ya the prototype, which would be made of aluminium lined with rubber). I'm hoping the end product to be made of welded steel sheets lined with rubber. This will also have the pipe inlet part "one size fits all" so us with z32's can fit them as well as those with stock pipes. To keep costs down I'd either let you do stick on the rubber, or buy a fat-fat sheet of rubber to stick on so hopefully it'll be cheaper getting it in one hit (so you have it sent out to you ready to fit). It'd have a space for the washer water bottle thing so it would be a straight swap if you had a pod. Depending on how the welding would be done it MIGHT be possible I'd be able to have 2 versions, where one has the top part left off so that if you wanted to go buy some acrylic so you can see your pod you could. (interest in this?) Considering I don't have a standard intercooler I'd probably need a few guys help fitting it so it would fit people with stock or aftermarket gear. If so how much would you be willing to pay? I realise most of you are pretty handy so you could do it yourself but hey if we can pool in and get something organised we might be able to save money and have a template set lying around should we need more. So.. basically. I'll be making a prototype out of aluminium. If noone wants any I will just continue to use that. If you guys do want some and we can have enough put together to make it worth-while for all I'll make some up and start sendin em out. If anyone has any suggestions or thoughts on this that'd be great too. One thing I'm yet to work out is if you had a stock AFM and a stock intercooler, where would the air be fed in from? I've never seen the stock snorkel - so as I said I'd like to have a look at a stock one after my initial prototype is done. kursed you up for letting me check your car out sometime in the new year? Again - I won't be bothering if there ain't enough interest so let me know. Merry xmas again - remember double demerits and shieeet so be safe and legal! -
Beh! We live in this world we should treat it better than that. I'm not by any stretch of the imagination legit but nor am I gonna hurt the environment if I can help it (so.. only when I drive my fossil car). I usually hunt around for a garage or mechanics that has their waste sitting outside and dump it in with their stuff. Helps me sleep at night knowing it's being disposed of properly AAAND i haven't had to go searching too far to chuck it.

Rezz not arguing your point but I think for a lot of people the R series is the defining series of the skyline. I'm 22 and certainly in my lifetime the skyline is symobolised by the R. But your point is taken.. damn these love those C's in Japan dontthey!?

How long does it take to learn manual ?
someonestolecc replied to skylinedrifter's topic in General Automotive Discussion
I've taught a few people how to drive manual. Some are born drivers some are not. One peice of advice that remains true for everyone (i think) and I've taught to people is below. Those that have listened don't have trouble. The ones who listened and were born drivers can now drive naturally. When learning - learn to clutch without the accel pedal. Strange idea? Not really. Most people will tell you to push the accel as you lift the clutch out - FORGET THAT WHEN YOU'RE LEARNING. When you get in the car you find the friction point by getting the car rolling WITHOUT using the accel - clutch, put it into 1st, then lift the clutch slowly out till the car starts moving. When you can do this finely/accurately enough that the car can be started without jumping/stalling then you've got it. Do it 5 times. Stop. Go through turning the car off (ie. put it into gear rip the handbrake and get out). Then get back in, go through the process of starting it up (with your foot ON THE CLUTCH so if it's in gear it doesn't launch when you turn the key). Then start the car rolling again without the accel. Get used to that a few times and spend the first hour or two (on a flat surface) starting the car rolling WITHOUT the accel. Once you have mastered it (and I mean MASTERED IT) THEN and ONLY then use the accel. From then if you learn this way you will be well on your way... .trust me! I learnt to drive a manual when I was in a car park in someone elses car and the gate was closing on us and there was a into a 35 degree steep 90 degree turn up a driveway. That's how I learnt how to clutch, saving the car from being crushed - some methods work better for different people, but what I've described above works for 100% of the people I've taught and many of those commented how that was much much easier for them then being taught any other way. Good luck. -
vgh !@! I might have to re-install it if you're playing cos I loved T1. I don't like mods I just used to play base. Is telstra duel server still around? That was my favourite server after powerup's demise. Damn I miss topping snowblind and a good game of stonehenge :

someonestolecc replied to ocean's topic in General Automotive Discussion
Congrats P. seemed like 'twas only yesterday you said "I bought this car". I'm glad it's on your lawn and it wasn't too much trouble with the quarantine (it might be possible it got fumed). Good luck fixing it etc - keep us updated on your project. I hope all goes well. Merry xmas to you too. -
so...how often do you guys see this?
someonestolecc replied to CerealKiller's topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
I never see it. Usually fill up by 1/2 a tank and always fill up by 1/4 of a tank. Keep my fuel pump less stressed supposedly PS: nice clean dash - no dust! -
Imagine drifting around and seeing red and blue lights come up thinking "ahh crap" only to see them drift past you with a hand out the window like "this is how it's done". ahh.. then i woke up

Anyone Selling A Skyline In 2-5 Years Time?
someonestolecc replied to D-G's topic in General Automotive Discussion
Welcome to the forums D-G. Watch out for the trolls - apperantly they like to pick on kids. A good learning car is something that will let you put your foot down to the floor and take 5 minutes to get to 60km/h. This is simply because the younger you are the more you drive like a go-cart (unless you actually race go-karts). A N/A silvia would probably be a good compromise between something too fast, to something that won't give you any road feedback (newish ford laser for example). I think both of these are equally dangerous. Having said that 140kw is a heck of a lot mate. I plowed my first car into a tree at 130km/h and it had 80kw at the engine. I was lucky to walk away but if I had the car I have now which is probably spot on 200rwkw I'd be a statistic and not much to fill in my coffin. It's all chance. The more you reduce the chance of something bad happening the greater your odds. There will always be those that defy the odds either way (like the kids who never drove but got run over the one time a year they stepped outta the house, or those who had a skyline as a first car, drove it every day and never crashed). The thing to remember though is if you have a fast car you can go fast. If you don't, you can't. Considering speed is a factor in deaths, if you can't get there quicker you're safer. Either way. Good luck! -
And unfortunately most are full of crap (then again that's what the get paid for). Daveo is also on the money once you amp and sub you'll never go back

Query : Australian Road Laws ??
someonestolecc replied to sx_iest's topic in General Automotive Discussion
Till that law came in it was technically legal to drink a beer and drive (so long as you weren't over the limit).
