Oil Filter Review - Ryco, Valvoline etc
someonestolecc replied to Cubes's topic in General Maintenance
Now that I'm due for another change of oil filter (oil leaked out + new sump + new oil) other than having to trek to UAS for a JIC filter (which seemed to keep my oil a nice consistency/colour) are there any other brands to try? Ryco I'm not impressed with (have heard too many bad things). Paper filters I'd rather shy away from if possible. Does anyone else know of any good brands or recommend anything? What do all the track hounds use? -
It's full sick. I have a s15 stock re-circ. If take your foot off the accell quick enough when on full boost you still hear crazy woosh for some reason (I thought that wasn't meant to happen with a re-circ)... this thread makes me worry now maybe it's not up to the job but I'm only running .8 bar or so. I still don't understand why people want these noises - just get a bigger turbo and make noise with the wastegate

Toe in toe out???
someonestolecc replied to dangerous_daveo's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
I'll probably be doing somewhere round this- Front toe out = tiny bit camber = 4 degrees caster = ?? Rear toe in/out = 0 camber = 1 degree or .5 degree Based on S-Kid's advice- From here -
Gday, Just wondering if anyone had solved these cefiro quirks. Or if anyone wanted to add any to see if we can solve them? 1. Rear windows Why the hell are these permanently child locked? It looks pimped when the windows only go down half way but is this due to the side intrusion bars or is this how cefiros were made? Is there anyway to make them go all the way down (some of my rear seat passengers whinge too much). 2. Auto door-lock My car decides to lock all doors (except for the driver door) when the car starts or starts moving around 15-20kmh (it randomly chooses). Is there a way to get rid of this and still keep the central locking button operative? (i'd still like to hit the switch to lock/unlock all doors but i'd like to stop the auto-lock). Thanks. Anyone else got any?

Really? I haven't noticed. I thought r33 grills were like stageas. I might have to hunt some pics down. I'm loving that. If you're gonna sellit give me some close-ups of damage and lemme know know how much you want for it.

Thanks. Might be something to look at for mine

Check the ECU. If it's got a red light on while it's on then it's in limp mode. This won't explain the smoke unless there's a leak also (where the richer mix is causing the black smoke to be visible).

Any chance you can post pics of that nark?

Eps - r33 grills suck don't they? Slain - Pics please I'm very very interested

R33 vs R32 caliper difference
someonestolecc replied to ni*cK*'s topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
I have Type M r32 brakes on the cefiro they're the same as the ones posted above - http://members.optusnet.com.au/nixmix2/fro...rontcaliper.jpg (If that helps.) -
Help Needed With Reaching My GOAL!
someonestolecc replied to curly_fry_44's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
I don't think e-manage does speed cut, atleast not without a module (although I could be wrong). If you just wanted a stand alone module you can buy a speed-cut module from Japan. Still - I wouldn't be taking a stock skyline to 180 anyway - sure you can do it but beh it's your life your dealing with. The bigger the turbo (more power) the more lag - you'll be able to beat the cars you said with a hi flow as S-Kid has said. The injectors are a matter of being big enough to get enough fuel into your engine to match the air the turbo is pushing in. So for the power level of 220-230 as S-Kid said s15 ones would be enough. You may be better of saving a bunch of cash together and taking it to a speed shop to build for you. There are plenty of threads to read up generally that will give you a better idea of what is required for what and what people's experiences are with different setup. -
Hmm. The one on the right *is* oem! What the...? Do you guys reckon it'd be hard to make one up that is LIKE the one on the right except the grill extends along the whole thing? So the bit that says "Cefiro" on it isn't there? Kinda like this on a silvia - or I'd be keen to get something like this for the cefiro if it's well priced (ie. $200 from east bear is not well priced). Mainly interested in cooling (i'd just have mesh in it) for the radiator.

Dark blue bonnet. Nope. Not you then oops. who knows maybe a random.. :wavey:

NJR knows what he's talkin bout. Also someone mentioned dual channel RAM. As a rule I always use that and try to get the biggest cache on the chip. The thing to remember when peicing your system together is that the bottlenecks should be as close as possible grouped together. That is there is no point having a super dooper CPU when your motherboard/ram sucks (like most package deals I see advertised). Likewise with the video cards (and with most things), I will always opt for the best of the older generation than the first of the new. This is simply a general rule I follow because mostly as things are already on the market there will be more support (eg linux/overclocking/drivers etc). There may an exception with the 9800 based cards vs the 6600GT but I can't comment on this exactly as I'm not up on my video cards. Gave up long ago Good luck

Unplug it. Plug it straight to the battery. (Short the power and accessories terminals together on the amp). See if it works then. If the light goes on ok you have a short somewhere - check your speaker wires not shorting either. If it doesn't work then then I'd be checking the fuse and then p'raps start shopping for a new amp or if it's a good one trying to get it repaired. Good luck

p'raps he just wants a dyno car.

I don't like the spotties And I'm with nark. 32 sedans are da bomb-diddly.
-
Very good details S-Kid. Thanks. Notching another tick up near the case to get off my ass and fibreglass a proper enclosed box up instead of using a dodgey peice of rubber/aluminium divider. Ima pick me up one of those jaycar things today.
-
Hmm. Without the middle bit. I had a look at the pics nark is it custom and re-moulded, fully custom or is it a OEM option? I need to do something with mine (when it gets out of the shop) for more air flow to the radiator, and ripping that thing out seems the best option. Off course replacing it with slats or a grill would be nice so I don't have arseholes opening my bonnet on the street.

Wohoo my car didn't blow up!

Yeah man I can't get over how cool those guys are. When I called their shop on Tuesday (public holiday) I think it diverted to David's house. He arranged for Grahame to come down to open the shop for me so my car wouldn't sit outside all by itself. He had to move a truck outta the way and unlock the whole place to let my baby in on the hoist. It's gonna sit there while they paint. They're freakin legends I can't recommend them enough. Thanks R - that's what I thought, the fittings had gone but I looked and felt both ends and they seemed to be sitting in securely and wound up. When the engine was running oil was just beading on the line but didn't seem to be wet on either end near the fittings. Anyway the agenda for my car at the moment is. 1. fix oil leak 2. full wheel alignment 3. fit ARC sump (more oil wee!) 4. fix couple of exhaust rattles 5. weld in oil catch breather to air inlet (engineering requirement) 6. fix up some lose lines that go to nowhere re: carbon canister (engineering requirement) 7. change mech diff oil 8. engine oil+filter change (due to #1 and #3) And I'll probably go back to ask them to 1. change sparkies 2. change fuel filter 3. install my rear camber arms (depending how much) 4. fix the damn leak now that I've found it (depending how much) 5. look over it for engineering/look over it for shonkiness (depending how much and if I'm not too scared) 6. put in an extra exi-mani stud that was never there 7. put in pineapples 8. weld the tailshaft supports (nark's thingy) While I know they'll bill me reasonably I'm scared to think. Anyone wanna sponsor me some cams and/or EBC? -

Ok had it towed to Cromer Exhaust Centre. They're closed till the 17th so they were nice enough to come down and open the shop for me so the car can sit inside till then. That's bloody service. Managed to checkout Darren's (slo200) s14 while there with all the new graphics and carbon... mmmmmmmmm mhhmmmm :aroused: I've given up a bit so they're going to get it to engineering quality for me for engineering (as Victorian rego is running out). Keep posted. -
Any luck moulding it RS? I think I'm gonna rip mine out and replace with a normal grill.
-
Yeah your front bar looks about right. And yeah wasn't hooning - it was just too fast to look at closely

Thanks guys I think you're on the money. Went there yesterday (Sunday) with a jack and a light. Had a look but couldn't find anything. When my mate started the car I had a look underneath and could see oil beading on the turbo oil feed. Thing is I could only spot tiny bits of beading on the line, I couldn't see any on the actual joins. It's stumped me so I just pushed it to the ramp, put more oil in, started it and drove it up the ramp and had it towed : The garage can work this one out I think. They can have a look over a few other things and tell me what needs attention. I'll let ya guys know what it is but I'm hoping they say something like "yeah oil feed line was leaking here and that's why you didn't see it.. that'll be $50" Fingers crossed. -
ha pitchd.
