  1. Hi all Was going to pretty my car up good for this and show it off a bit but last weekend I had a minor incident with a small roo. Thankfully I only glanced it but that was enough to put minor cracks through the paint on the front bar in a couple of places + a small indent in the passenger side door. So really only very minor damage for a roo encounter but still bloody annoying. So with that I decided that i'll just coma along say hello and have a perv at everyone elses car porn. See ya tomorrow
  2. Really? I didn't know that. I think that really, REALLY rases the issue that the law could be abused, if it is witness vs witness (one invariably being a police officer). If this is the application of the law. And the point of disproportionate punishment is a very interesting one. So if someone with a porshe or a holden GTS gets caught breaking the law in this manner, they will have their car crushed and effectively have a $100,000 fine. So the person in the beat up ol corrolla will get off very llightly indeed. Is it just me or are these people the ones who are breaking the law more often than not? However I am generally in favour of means testing for fines etc, BUT it is the issue of someones property being destroyed that causes concern for me. A means tested (cash) fine would be more appropriate that way the fine is always going to be a suitable financial penalty. And that was a good point about increasing the likelihood of dangerous police chases, I agree I think it is quite likely....probably more so for the person driving the porshe or otherwise fast car, which would ironically make the chase even more dangerous! cheers for the thoughts, I do wonder whether the politicians have actually though about these things.
  3. The NSW goverment has suggested that hoons cars may be crushed and the video posted on the internet as a method of detering them from street racing. see: http://www.smh.com.au/news/national/well-destroy-hoons-cars–and-video-it/2007/11/12/1194766541131.html Is anyone else worried about what might happen when that dickhead who tries to drag you off the lights comes unstuck and plows onto a tree or worse into someone else? Even if you have done nothing wrong, you are driving the import, your car looks different, sporty... What do you think?
  4. I remember reading that exact same mag, it was definately SPEED. I think it was in 2005. They had a special on an Aussie driver and in the article they stated the JGTC supra was 10 sec faster per lap on the phillip island circuit during testing. So yes I think its safe to say they are significantly faster BUT the V8 supercars competition is a very different typre of racing - there differenent regs to be adhered to.

    R32 Vs R35

Here is an interesting proposition though. On A PURE POWER TO WEIGHT RATIO BASIS: We have 1750 (odd kg) / 353 kw (flywheel) for the R35 - GTR which costs anywhere from 80,000 - 160,000 AUD new. So we could assume (and yes this is the contentious part) that we have a drivetrain loss of approximately 15 % So now we have 1750 Kg / 300 Kw (at the wheels) which yields 5.83 Kg per kilowatt (at the wheels) The power required of an R32 GTR to meet this is 1500 Kg / 5.83 = 257.3 Kw (at the wheels) Far as I know this figure should be pretty easily achievable (most probably on standard internals too). Further it could be done quite cheaply. So forgetting the fact that most R32's are getting pretty tired and the fact that you would likely be KILLED on top speed (we have not compared drag ratios) as well as cornering and Braking (unless you have spent the time and money and have these covered too. I reckon 260-280 awkw for an ol R32 is less than ~$15000 away (assuming engine don't go boom which it may). Purchase price of $25,000 (we after a pretty good example). Total cost of R32 GTR @ 260+ awKW = $40,000 and surely this is a conservative estimate! Something to think about anyway... My point is, I suppose that an R32 GTR is STILL a performance bargain if you have the dedication (obsession?) to keep it in good nick. A good 280 awkw R32 GTR vs stock R35 GTR drag is required! i'm just jealus.. - I WANT ONE
  6. Driving Nissan's Ambitious GT-R - Edmunds Inside line http://www.edmunds.com/insideline/do/Drive...photopanel..1.* "Twin-Turbo V6 Roll into the throttle at nearly any engine speed and the GT-R drenches you in thrust. Turbo lag from the VR38 3.8-liter V6 is essentially nonexistent, so the immense torque arrives immediately. Indeed, the engine's punch is strongest in the midrange, where the GT-R delivers 434 pound-feet of torque from 3,200 to 5,200 rpm. Being turbocharged, the VR38 doesn't have to rely on insanely high revs to generate its goods. That's what boost is for, and the GT-R's twin IHI turbos generate between 10.1 and 11.6 psi (depending on ambient conditions) to deliver peak power of 473 horsepower at 6,400 rpm." I can only hope and dream that nissan have used have sufficiently strong components (specifically non-ceramic turbos and pistons + rods) such that simple computer mods yeild significantly more power. I realise manufacturers don't like to run high boost, but thats doesn't meet the aftermarket can't Provided the other components hold up, imagine what kind of power this engine could potentially make with say 16 or 20 psi . Excitement! Just thought i'd put it out there.
  7. Saw V8 powered wesfield/lotus about a week ago on hindmarsh/monaro Hwy. Sounded friggin sweet!!! Took off from the lights and jeas it was quick too!
  8. As far as down here in Canberra goes, Gecko motorcycles in fyshwick (about 5 minutes from QBN) have been good for my biker needs and if they don't have anything to suit your price/needs canberra motorcycle centre and Joes motorcycles are also in fyshwick. If you're Really desperate I can possibly bring a spare dunno if it'll fit you're noggin tho.
  9. I'm in as well, this is going to be so much fun!!! Those videos on the NSW Texi link are great! So what are we doing Saturday night? I have this image in my mind of 40 skylines going over commonwealth ave bridge and consuming all 3 lanes. I'm excited!
  10. Short answer, here is a good if somewhat detailed explanation. http://www.autospeed.com/cms/A_108915/article.html - but you may need membership to acess it so i'll summarise. Grip is related to the coefficient of friction of the rubber compund of the tyre. This is in turn effected by heat. All things being equal Narrow tyres will generate more heat, thus depreciate quicker and lose grip faster, they also have less temperature stability. So a wider tyre can dissipate more heat, have greater temperature stability and should last longer. Thus given the same compound a wider tyre will generally have more grip. Pressure also plays a large role and dictates contact patch. Narrow tyes do have lower rolling resistance and are invariably better for fuel economy (once again provided they are at the correct pressure). So yes $800 a tyre pirelli 225s will likely have an immense amount of grip due to the compound of rubber used. However as I understand it 265s can get away with a compound less advanced to result in the same amount of grip (they may also cost less), or with as advanced a compound should provide even higher grip levels and hopefully last longer (once again all things being equal).
  11. I got excited too as I am also an engineer, not Automotive specifically (mechanical, manufacturing, sustainable energy) but I do know a bit about skylines. I have only heard good things about John from AKZ.
  12. Might do if theres a few others keen. I'm so chuffed my car is now ACT registered and not leaking exhaust at all < > and thus running heaps better! and with help from Frink I have a new set of Feds which i've just about worn in.
  13. Champion! Another silver R32 GTR in canberra! Think yours is in slightly better condition than mine, very nice. Perhaps i'll have to get along to this hillclimb and see you in action. cheers for the comments scooby its always good to have that experience passed down. My experience of a few months ownership resonates with a few things you're saying 'make sure your wheel alignment (don't laugh, people run huge camber and wonder why the thing tramlines uncontrollably) is on the money' my car has bilstiens, has been lowered significantly with high camber so it tramlines like a bastard. I also have upgrades in mind (read dreams) once i've payed off some debt......if ever. My extremely rough numbers so far are: stage 1 220-250rwkw (nb. Already got Kiakamoto 3+ In cat back) panel filter (apexi power filter or similar) boost control (profec or AVCR) computer (PFC D-jetro) ~1100 (-labor) stage 3 250-320rwkw turbo kit (garret 2860-5 x2) injectors fuel pump I/C kit exhaust bits (dumps, CAT, extrude honed manifold, front pipe) hoses and accessories ~7500 (-labor) I don't have the money, not at all but still excited. Got to get it onto ACT rego first, been putting off that inspection for way too long....
  14. Yeah I will likely be along too. What do you think the likelihood of the local constabulary doing roadworthyness checks at the museum is? Only got my car a little while ago, think exhaust may be too loud... Should be a good night. See you a bit later on.
  15. Okay I have a wee bit of pent up rage from the last few days so here is goes. 1.Radiators flush that ends up destroying the seals of your radiator (ok so they were on the way out anyway), Beware alloytech? radiator flush its nasty shit for older cars. 2. Dirty rotten filthy motherf**king c**ts who run into you're car when its parked at work! Especially when you've only owned it for 3 weeks and the exterior is perfect! And they try and do a runner. Then you find out they have NO INSURANCE!!! then you find out they are at least 40 and 'living at their parents address' aka probably a caravan park!!! I swear to god I could have broken his f**king nose. If he causes hassles when I get repairs done I will steal his children (whom were in the car) and arrage for them to be sex slaves for a donkey. Motherf**ker!!! 3. Not being able to get a replacement radiator before the weekend so that I can get my car back on the road. 4. Not being able to trust anyone to fix the (relatively small) crash damage to my car. 5. Old lawnmowers which just give up half way through mowing the lawn and cause severe back pain and anger from trying to get the f**ker started again. thats it, for the moment.... P.S anyone know where I can get a good radiator for an R32 GTR? and/or a GOOD bodyshop for repairs?
  16. Got the water pump sorted so yeah I should be there. See you then.
  17. I'm new and keen to meet everyone and i'll be there provided I can get my hands on a water pump by say Friday. Hope to see you then. Leon
  18. Hi guys, Anyone know where i can get my hands on an R32 GTR water pump in canberra? Keen to get it ASAP, either standard or N1. As if i'm not already in enough debt, damn it! Sorry not quite sure if this is the right place for posting parts equiries. Any help here would be greatly appreciated. just post reply here or [email protected] Thanks - Leon
  19. Julian, I have met you a couple of times, you work with Ian - my guardian? Also you're R32 is brilliant, saw it at summernats on the dyno which was great! and also at the shannons car show. Very very nice car! Do you know where i might be able to get my hands on a 4.5inch silencer/restrictor? Ian mentioned you might have an exhaust that i may be able to borrow, perhaps? mine is too loud. I can rent and/or pay deposit.
  20. cheers yeah spose i'll bring it along, we'll see might wanna drink a bit...hmmm...beer. yeah i'd like to do a bunch or reliability work on it but got to ease the debt durden a bit. There are plans, oh yes, but just gotta save up a bit first.
  21. Hi Shaun, how are ya? Yeah, not too many bruises only got hit twice on the body The rest were headshots - the visor thingo saved me though. Great fun!
  22. Cheers for the fast responses guys. I'll have a bit of a think, might get a quote on a quieter cat back - something I would probably do down the line anyway, its just too loud. However it would be great to have that stock exhaust as a fall back when yaf28f is finished with it. We'll see.... Thanks guys
  23. Hi All I'm a fanatic, a devoted rev head and I realised on of my many dreams recently. I just bought a R32 GTR on the weekend, wanted to say hi and i'm chuffed (albeit also in DEBT for a very long time). 93 model, excellent condition and they still make new cars look old and boring (as far as i'm concerned) and well really to get the same value and calibre of sports/racing car brand new you're looking at a minimum of $60,000. It has to be said, i'm excited - big kev style (bless his soul....not really) and skylines Rock! - Particuarly GTR's My CAR Can't wait to take it to the track (eventually after debts have eased), the only place to truly test this cars performance.
  24. Hi Guys I'm a new member, just picked up my silver R32 GTR on the weekend and i've enjoyed every second so far! However, I think the local constabulary and inspectors might be a little unhappy with the following: Loud exhaust, 4.5 inch cannon - Kiakamoto system (spelling?) from Cat back. Wide wheels, NISMO 18x9 (possibly 9.5), they are borderline - tread is under the guard (just) but sidewall is not.... Could anyone possibly help me out with these? Does anyone know where I might be able to get a 4.5 inch silencer/hotdog/restrictor? I called a few places today and they said the largest silencers they have are 3.5 inch. I would like to try passing it with this exhaust before I try another but just in case... Does anyone have a stock exhaust I could borrow or rent? (I can pay deposit or something too) Worst case i'll weld up a crude silencer just to get it through. I should be able to source wheels but I was just wondering if anyone has been in a similair situation, with the tread under the guard but sidewalls not, if so how'd you go? Finally do you guys have a prefferred inspection station? Do you have to go through dickson? My Car
