  1. Hi Chris, I'd like to use the Stagea xanavi unit as another option, control the aircon and keep it all stock looking, then have my clarion single din below it. Unfortunately i dont think there is a way to get the xanavi touch screen to control a car pc via usb or rs232. (Unless u know different? That be great!) I know a vga signal can be in-putted to the Xanavi with some know-how/handy work, which would be part of a solution. Would just rely on wireless mini kb/trackball control pc and go with out pc touch screen control. If i were to look at the jaycar screen, the double din shell as per Bundy suggestion or retrofit xanavi shell with new touch screen lcd, do some tinkering, ad a pc, then also buy one of these from jaycar: (http://www.jaycar.com.au/productView.asp?ID=KV3590&CATID=25&form=CAT&SUBCATID=432) If I could possibly control the aircon via a car pc, design my own interface for aircon control and the rest, that would be awsome! I like all those small foot print boards, make it very convenient and expand the installation options. Cheers, Pete
  2. Thanks Bundy, Yeah I was thinking of something like/exactly that as one of my options if i decided to rip out my existing clarion head unit, leaving the single din factory aircon & 2din space to play with. However came across some clarion items on the auctions recently that allow me to integrate new stuff with my existing head unit / setup on the audio in/out and vid in/out. my head unit controls it all via ce-net. So only single din space with the path im taking to play with and car pc will a hideaway unit. Just need to find a decent lcd single din with vga/usb pc connectivity then the build will begin. Cheers, Pete
  3. spotted wes-470? (mental blank) twice yesterday. cnr blackburn/highbury rd then a bit later in carpark at kmart e.burwwod. silver r33 2door series 2? foggy surrounds and bar centre look nicely accented in black.
  4. Hi All, Have held off on buying a 7inch in dash lcd with touch screen with vga/usb for a car pc for 2-3 years cause haven't seen (in my view) a reputable brand. Im interested in suggestions, what people have used, no issues, good build quality etc... Seen reviews of lilliput/xenarc which have put me off. None of the 'known' manufacturers (clarion, pioneer etc..) make something like this, who's build quality I trust. Hence at this point i will not buy anything i come across. Jaycar have something (i trust their product) to suit the requirement, minus 1 specification, it's not in dash, spewin. Cheers, Pete
  5. hi there, i cannot reply to personal conversations all of a sudden, only just noticed. worked a week or two ago. advice pleease
  6. spotted roj down bottom of my st yesterday evening (been a while) in e.burwood.. got new rims? give's the r34 bit of mild gangsta look. i like . i'm guessing u in amongst that group ready to go party, loading up the maxi taxi. that was me cruisn past in the stag with me dawg hanging out back window. Spotted Lauza.3 i carpark at Forry Hill shops 2day. silver r34? (was a quick glance). Spotted wzj-258 next to me in carpark at Forry when i came out. white r33. around 4pm. Spotted usu560 gunmetal grey r32 on Springy rd around 4.30 near the Glen. (also spotted many many jackass's tailgating myself and others on the way up to/back from Rye yesterday ...just no need!)
  7. ditto on what Chris said. nice job too in those pics. i did same/similar on my old r31. except bit more space to work with in r31 4dr. not sure if rear window angle same. i used 18mm mdf for solid mounting. measured eveything up allowed 2mm extra 4 h/duty carpet i used, drew lines where window taper, belt holes were then went to play with my jigsaw . went the 18mm so no thought of spacers/rings, but kenwood 7*10's had them anyway. very very snug fit, but take time and a few test fitments all good. and omg, all the rubber seals on that car were like new (20yr old car), 7*10 were perfect for that boot volume/capacity. got asked sooo many times how big my sub was LOL! Big time when i showed them had none! with the 4ch amp, i cut piece of mdf same size, made some slots/grooves then mounted it under ther parcel shelf in boot. this allowed me to still use split rear seat, clear the boot springs under the shelf and load the boot up full to the brim without touching the amp or wiring. would r32/r33 have same bit of space to work with?
  8. maybe turn each adjustable sensor to minimum 1 by 1. im assuming sensors can be turned off/on, try doing that also 1 by 1. also assume the led diagnostic tells u what's being triggered. process of elimination. then look at best solution to prevent it occuring again. i'll leave other suggestions to those who know better, as per some of the previous posts. would low car battery, loose/dirty terminals cause whacky stuff? lol with trucks/or big exhausts, see it happen all the time. ps. my old vision alarm in r31 had a ball/sphere thing in it for vibration sensing, autowatch same or more advanced better technology. also my stoopid microwave sensor would detect a slow moving tennis/squash ball rolling under car on lowest setting.
  9. yeah i know, i've gone back and forth through this thread many times to check whats been done etc... seen some repeated questions been umming and arring what to do for a bit. was just curious when i saw a pic of r34 gtx & r34 gtt front brake calipers, they looked the same. but gtx non turbo yeah? maybee someone put gtt calipers on their gtx? i'd expect gtx maybe 2bot like stag if stock? when i measured the holes (12mm) the other day on the 4pots i have, i thought oh no i'd have to retap or do the spacer thing. which i dont really wanna do. so may have some 4pots up for sale shortly as i hunt for some others. prefer to get some r34 series 14mm calipers nissan/brembo, bolt straight on then get the lines sorted. (if i go that path) i vaguely remember a engineer / replicar car builder advising there is a rule/law that the brakes, seatbelts, emissions etc... when modifying have to be from the same year of manufacture or newer. hence im not gonna use these 4pots i have. keeping 'mods' in the eyes of insurance/law within their stipulation so i dont stooge myself . want it to be a sleeper. re: 'the S2 brakes have 30mm more PAD the 4 pots'. Always noticed the difference in surface area and always been thinking, is 4pots worth it. Cause the standard 2pots have more surface area, therefore require less force to brake. As opposed to the 4pots which have less pad area, but being 4pots use more braking/clamping force. (i remember some old science class stuff about surface area and pressure) So it's probably 50/50 on the benefits/time/effort over all in changing to 4pots i have also been thinking, given pad materials good discss/lines etc.. The 4pots probably more effective on the lighter skyline. Have also been thinking, stay with standard calipers, get dixcel slotted rotors (being direct fitment). Get some decent pads, braided lines, brake stopper and be done with. Next thought, why have people been upgrading (besides track cars/towing loaded 7*5 or tandem trailer etc..), the standard brake setup pretty good. But even saying that, I've towed a tandem behind a stock r31 with a 1982 vc commodore 1300kg, then another time with a 92 hyundi sonata 1200kg on the trailer ... no issue at all. even checked the chassis later being anal and all with cars The brakes were fine, paid attention to stopping distances etc... all good. I've been on some very very twisty country rd's quite often, which were 100km limit with 40kmh warning signs/bends which have come up on me a bit quick at times, and standard setup never let me down, that in summer also with a few hours driving already passed. Not blowing trumpet, but also i use gears effectively and set car up for corner as been taught in a couple defensive courses which makes a big difference + teins/r34 rims/good tyres also add to overall handeling/braking. (some of those defensive driving courses i advise to do if u havent, if not for the fun factor especially if in your own car, pick up good tips) tooo many thoughts on the matter/options with brakes amongst other mods... ($$ tats me outa here)
  10. if you come across a cheap 2nd hand nokia 6220 classic, 1st release/generation. they have inbuilt gps and they output everything to tv via rca.
  11. spotted gdyup1 silver r33 (did i get that right?) parked on highbury rd last 2 nights, just past the power sub station. p.s. heads up if your on the forum, i would not leave it parked there, soooo many retarded/arrogant/knob head/nervous/roadhogging etc.. drivers in arvo peak hr jostling for position on the rd going from single to double file, it's likely to get rear ended. ....seen it b4.
  12. I had same thought. my assumption is the r34 brembo's would bolt straight on. bigger disc diameter. brake line fittings maybe different? They're on my wishlist, just out of the budget at the moment.
  13. ditto on my s2, 2pot front/1pot rear. yup, sumitomo. i should have mentioned that. so r32 i have?
  14. Anyone know if there is a difference between the 4pot callipers on the front of R34GTX in comparison R34GTT? I wish to put R34 4pots up front as i'm aware they have the 14mm bolt/mounting holes which makes life easier to fit on a S2 Stag. I've got a pair of 4pot callipers from a 97 Stag 'apparently' (bought via auctions) with the 12mm bolt/mounting holes and they look just the same as any other 4pot skyline callipers. Advice?
  15. Spotted a white S2 Stagea with no rear wing on Warrigul Rd last night at 5:15pm approx. Drove up behind and passed me on the left as I was turning off on to Highbury Rd. Plate was WQ? - 179 / YQ?-179 I think. Gave you a toot toot to say hi ..................................... I should have pulled my finger out and come to the cruise boost the Stag numbers a bit ...but a long day and J.D'n coke got better of me
  16. Check out this guy. If he cant do it, will probably point you in the right direction. http://www.ljbupholstery.com.au/index.html
  17. Spotted a white r32 gtst/gtr?? turning of Springy Rd into Weeden Dve this arvo around 4.50pm. Exhaust sounded nice
  18. To clarify this point. Also depends on line conditions... but factor in what was said in the scope of the advice. "If your downstream bitrate shows 3000kbps, then you know the dslam port is limited."
  19. Im in the industy. (Not BigPond). Acceptable with all the ISP's is 1.5Mbps (150KB/sec) on dsl2+ & 8mb plans. Written in the supply agreements etc... Telstra Big Pond / Wholesale have been shaping the dslams for over a year to 3mb for quite a lot of customers, as demand has exceeded supply or should I say their backhaul bandwidth. Give their helpdesk a call quote them the number of your dsl line and ask if your on the 'congested dslams list'. You wont be able to get anything done about it immediately if you are on the list, unfortunately you will have to wait like thousands of other customers around Australia. I got an update from them not to long ago, they have been working on upgrades for a bit now and probably wont finish untill mid-late 2011. If your not on the list, get them to try rebuilding the port, aply a profile if needed. If that does not help, do the obvious checks before asking for them to get a tech out to check the line, otherwise they charge if your fault, if their fault it's free. Obvious checks: modem firmware up to date, short telephone cables, make sure you have dsl2+ filter (common oversight if upgraded from adsl1), dont have more than 4 phone devices connected with inline filters (phone, fax, ans machine, alarm, eftpos etc...). Have a read of your modem manual to find out where to check Line stats For adsl1 and adsl2+. SNR 10 - 56db range on the up/down reading. ATT 0 -56db range on the up/down reading. Preferable to have snr around 10db for dsl2+ and 15db for dsl1 for fastest speed without drops. ATT, the lower the better. Line bitrate can also be checked in your modem. If your downstream bitrate is showing ie. 12000kbps and your only getting 3000kbps (3mb), then you know the dslam is rate limited on the backhaul. If your downstream bitrate shows 3000kbps, then you know the dslam port is limited. See pic, should be able to find this somewhere in your modem. my stats not the best at the moment although still get 13.15Mbps it used to get 15Mbps, yours is rather low at 3.2Mbps.
  20. Cruisin side by side briefly on Highbury Rd with an R34 Silver 2 door last night down the hill just before Springvale rd. 20inch chromies. I 4got the no. plate... maybe 'wk.....' something. Pretty sure it's the one that parks out front of Sharpe Panel & Paint. Keep just missing a white R32 2 door, always see u turning left from Blackburn rd into highbury rd and head towards Springy rd, usually around 5-6pm.
  21. My mate's old man is an engineer and they used to use the nissan rb30 rods in some v8 applications a while back. He said the standard ones were good up to about 600hp/447kw at the flywheel before they would start to break.
