  1. This site lists some ECU PN's: http://www.grid.co.jp/DAT/unitdat.txt but it shows that the R32 GTR used an ECU with PN 23710-05U60, although later in the list it shows R32 GTR ECU with PN 23710-05U02.....but I'm wondering if that is a misprint because it is listed at the end of the R33 'group'. Anyway, your -OW715 ECU isn't anywhere in that list so may not help.
  2. In terms of the changes and dates of effect it depends on whether they are relying on regulations which are incorporated in legislation. Legislative changes certainly require an Act of Parliament which will take some time to get through. However, if these are simply regulations then all that is required is Ministerial approval to enforce the changes...the fact that they are specifying a particular date for the changes to take effect (1/1/2005) suggests to me that they are relying on regulations...... The 15yo month/year stipulation was actually always the case, but DOTARS hadn't been enforcing it.
  3. No one really knows for sure at this stage. In January DOTARS sent out a survey to all 'interested parties' in the industry which canvased three options: Option 1 -- Make no changes to the current arrangements, ie. continue to allow unrestricted importation of vehicles 15 or more years old. Option 2 -- From 1 January 2005, allow only vehicles manufactured prior to 1 January 1989, to be imported without restriction, ie. no more 1989+ models. Option 3 -- From 1 January 2005, allow only vehicles 30 or more years old to be imported without restriction, ie. a 30 year rule, which may as well be 100 years given the impact it will have on import numbers. Of course everyone was encouraged to respond with a preference for option 1, but I think it's pretty much accepted that things are unlikely to be left as they are - but we can hope. Option 2 and 3 will mean the end of 89+ cars in terms of the 15 year rule....and a lot more if O3 is implimented. Rumour is that DOTARS will make an announcement in August, with effect for any changes as of 1/1/2005. It's probable that those that can demonstrate a 'financial interest' (ie proof of purchase before announcement of the changes) in a vehicle will be allowed to import inthe usual way......but that remains to be seen. I have an 89 GTR in storage at the moment, but I can't apply for import approval until 1 Sept, so I am watching developments with great interest....
  4. It certainly had a couple of light, wide stripes on the bonnet.
  5. Saw the remains of that car this morning too. Cabin/front looked untouched but the left rear quarter appeared to have been pushed up almost to the back window....probably a write off.
  6. You say your running the OEM RB25DET ECU (right ??).....that being the case the above doesn't make sense. The TPS on these engines simply tells the ECU whether the throttle is closed (ie idle) or not. It is simply an open or closed switch. If you have a reading like the above it means your using a variable resistor TPS which is not suitable for your ECU and would probably explain your erratic idle/dying, etc. I'd suggest putting the original TPS on your current TB or if that can't be done put the entire original TB back on and work from there in terms of your other problems.
  7. All Oz R31 manuals use 3.7 diff except GTS3 which had 3.9. If you want to go even shorter (ie numerically larger) Oz spec R31 Pintara's had 4.1 gears in all models.
  8. No.....R32/R33 use 'stubby' R200 and IRS, but locally built R31 uses BW live axle diff so is totally different. Import R31 uses R200 with IRS, but diff is the 'long nose' type and CWP is also not interchangeable with R32/33 type.
  9. I thought you sold that car.... http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/sh...ead.php?t=34959
  10. I couldn't care less...that's what SOME importers are quoting...take it up with them.....
  11. Some useful info here: http://homepage2.nifty.com/WGNC34/tuningdatetop.htm Manual versions using the RB25DET were only available from about 1999 (I think), so will be more expensive. Auto's can be had for as little as $15K landed and complied, but manual's will probably be closer to $25K or even more.
  12. The RB20DET wasn't offered as an option in R31's sold by Nissan in Oz so you will require an engineers certificate. It also has a substantially greater power output than the original RB30E so as far as Vicroads is concerned a certificate will be mandatory. That has been standard practice for donkey's ages and whoever told you otherwise hasn't got a clue.. On the Vicroads website somewhere is a list of recognised engineers. You are looking at around $500 for the inspection + mods (upgraded brakes will almost certainly be required).

  14. The studs are a press fit in the rear hub. The hub is a spline fit to the driveshafts and held in place by a big arse nut done up to a HUGE torque (there's also a lock plate and split pin over the nut). I think the nut itself requires a 30mm socket, plus you'll probably need a puller to get the hub off - after you've got the nut undone. It might be possible to drive out the old studs with the hub in place after you take off the handbrake shoes to give enough clearance (you should see those 'behind' the hub after the disc is off). If you can get the old ones out that way, getting the new ones in should be fairly easy. If your not sure tho, don't try esp with time so short.
  15. AFAIC neither WRX's or MX5's would be eligible because they were sold here, BUT cars could be brought in under the 15+yo rule.....I believe some MX5's were manufactured in 1989 (??)....don't know about WRX's.
  16. It's called a 'personal import', but the rules are strict. Go here and all is explained: http://www.dotars.gov.au/transreg/vsb/vsb_10.htm
  17. These PN's may be useful to people looking to buy genuine Nissan gaskets. They are for R33 RB25DE or RB25DET engines: 11042-17U27 - VRS Set 11044-75T02 - Head Gasket 13042-16V00 - Camshaft Oil Seal (both) 13207-D4201 - Valve Stem Oil Seal 13270-58S01 - Gasket for Exhaust Side Rocker Cover 13270-58S11 - Gasket for Inlet Side Rocker Cover 14032-75T05 - Gasket between Intake Manifold Halves ('Collector' Gasket) 14035-75T01 - Intake Manifold Gasket 14036-21U00 - Exhaust Manifold Gasket The Ex manifold gasket would be the same for RB20DET.
  18. This is a direct quote from an article on VL Commodes on the difference between the RB30E and RB30ET oil pumps: 'A larger oil pump (increased over the 10.8mm standard width by 2.6mm) was fitted to cater for the required turbo supply.....' So 10.8mm for the NA pump and 12.4mm for the ET version. My measuring equipment is obviously not very accurate, but it's not that inaccurate that it would be out by around 2.5mm. Visually the gears were wider and that confirms the greater flow capabilities of the turbo pump (this would be expected given the greater demand of the turbo).
  19. Well if your really concerned I've got a spare secondhand GTR oil pump in the garage It definately has wide gears. (I picked it up after I'd finished the bottom end).
  20. Well as I said, I've actually had both RB30 NA and turbo oil pumps apart and measured them for myself....I'm not sure what else I can say, other than dimensions I've listed confirm what I've read about the differences between RB30E and RB30ET motors (ie upgraded rod bolts, pistons etc....and an upgraded oil pump).
  21. RB30 NA oil pump gear width is 10mm RB30ET oil pump gear width is 12.5mm IOW turbo oil pump gives higher flow for the same rpm. Had both apart and measured them for myself. I'm running an RB30ET oil pump on my RB30DET.
  22. Agree with RS73....looks to have been bonded in place and glue's only partly taken. Shouldn't happen on a new part. Simple job to repair yourself, just remove as much of the old glue as possible from both parts (hard to do in a hole, of course), then roughen up the surfaces with emery/sandpaper before re-glueing. I'd try something like 24hour araldite (NOT the 5min stuff, which is crap). Of course, if you think you've got a chance at a guarantee/warranty claim, do that first....
  23. Fit an auto trans cooler - the biggest one you can find and fit in the available space.
