-5's Vs Rs's On A Larger Then Stock Motor
Piggaz replied to Piggaz's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
It could be placebo but it feels like there is. But that could be just my head. I want to get another set and extrude hone them and really get it spot on! So many people swear by the stockers.... and going by Gav's post above me he has had issues with the Tomei's aswell! -
Toluene Cheaper Than 98 Octane , Thoughts ?
Piggaz replied to lachlanw's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
I looked into it for ages. Couldnt get it just off the street. I even asked a good mate who is a professional painter to get the stuff..... no go in the volume i wanted. Cut a long sotry short.... Upgrade your fuel system to handle E85. Once that is done its cheap and getting more and more easy to get. -
The old HKS VS Garrett arguement. It really is a mixed bag. Have a look at the -5 vs 2530 results.... There are some cracking results out there with the -5's. Gav from WA, Tangomatt from Vic are brilliant examples of the 'inferior' garretts can do. There are arguements for both sides. Rob from RIPS in NZ only uses the Garretts and look at the numbers he is ripping out of those things! I think it comes down to not just the huffer hanging off the side of your engine but the package. Headwork, cams, turbo size, exhaust size.... You cant just whack a 'big brand' turbo on and expect X,Y and Z.

-5's Vs Rs's On A Larger Then Stock Motor
Piggaz replied to Piggaz's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Thats a good point. My engine is 9.0:1 comp so it is highish. Next time I go back I might mention it to Yavuz (the tuner) and see what he reckons? Either way im back on ported stockers. -

Damn right it is. If you look up the hot side of the turbo's they are exactly the same. Gav, were the turbo's modified in anyway or were they straight out of the box and bolted up? -

Gav how long have you had your Tomei manifolds on your car? I have been through two sets. Cracks, holes blown in runners and the last set didnt make it to 2000 kms. Alot of that was on E85 (second set) too. -
-5's Vs Rs's On A Larger Then Stock Motor
Piggaz replied to Piggaz's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
When my car was on the dyno a few weeks ago we went from 1.7 to 2.0 bar. I made an extra 12 kw (414rwkw) or something stupid so we pegged it back to 1.7 bar. I think my exhuast is too small but also I reckon my head port doesnt match my setup. Its a little lethargic down low but doesnt make mega numbers up top. Are manifolds stock or port matched. N1GTR's manifolds are standard and makes more power then that. Those 292 cams are bloody MASSIVE! -

Gav that result is just crazy! I dont quite understand how it can make SO much difference.... The hot side is exactly the same size but the cool side is a little smaller... What cams are you running? How thick is the intercooler and what make is it? I have the Nismo plenum so thats done. Headwork? Bigger valves? Exhaust manifolds? Sorry for the million and one questions but if I could a curve like that I would be a very happy man! Having a choice of two gears at any point is awsome... At the moment I have 1 choice.... if im lucky! The RS's just seem really mismatched. This is not the first time I have heard of someone saying that. 2540's anyone? E85 has made it a little better.... but im still not 100% happy with it. -

Brett you just want me to do that so you can have my 2.8.... It will be my coffee table... a GT blocked 2.8 coffee table.... expensive but nice to look at . Rockabily. Im 99% sure the -5's are going on the new engine so it wont be for a while... The only issue is what cams to throw at it? Leave the 270's... Go back to 260's? Or burn it all and buy 997 GT2 RS and forget about it all! -
This is a thread that I suppose only a few people can really relate or comment on. N1GTR and myself discuss this all the time. I have a 2.8 and he has a 3.0 both with RS's on it same cams (270 @ 10.25) and both on E85. Now we both make enough grunt (400rwkw+) but I need close to 5K onboard for anything to REALLY happen, with the tallish OS 5 speed this is a pain in the arse! After looking through the results theads quite a few guys are making 400 + on -5's even on pump fuel with one 600 rwhp + (Gav from WA).... but then quite alot of disapointing results. Whats the secret to getting the -5's to work? Those of you who have gone from the choof choof RS's back to the -5's how do they compare? Do you regret it? Are they big/small enough?

The E85 Sparkplug Thread
Piggaz replied to joeyjoejoejuniorshabadoo's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Hmm. Looks like my plugs are waaaayy too cold. BCPR9ES-8. No wonder its coughing like a asthmatic 100 kms after pulling them in. -
First things first Marko.... Get rid of that dirty yellow and black number plate. Yuck! haha
-
Yeah fair call. I was speaking to the tuner a while ago when it was getting tuned on 98. He said if you have no starting issues and no fouling issues on the 9's its fine. I'll whack the 7's in and see what happens.
-
Hey guys. N1GTR and I were in my car today and i noticed sometimes that my car was missing. It sounded and went exactly like it was when my plugs were fouled, I changed them and bingo back to its normal self. Now I changed plugs the other day and have only done 150-200 kms since. I put in BCPR9ES-8. Im starting to think that the 9's are a little cold for E85. I had the same plugs in when it was on 98 and it never had any issues what so ever. Should I drop back to a heat range 8? I gave it a little splat on the way home and it felt fine. So I suppose my question is what plugs do guys use on E85 with 400+rwkw on tap?

How much work have they done?
-
Ah Marko you found one! Nice work!! When you bringing her around? haha -5's and Steve. He has bought a set however they are not going on yet. Im tossing up the idea of throwing a set on -5's on mine.
-
HKS GT RS's are the HKS equiv.... well close enough to it. I have them on a 2.8 and there are times I wish I had the -5's on mine. I wouldnt recommend putting them on a stock engine....
-
I got a Tomei 2.8 with tolerences of 2 thou between piston and bore. 25 PSI 400 rwkw + and doesnt use a drop. What goes in is what comes out.
-
Stock if you can get them cheap.... IE NOT from Nissan AUS

Mods if you feel you need to move this thread then do so.... I wasn't 100% sure where to put it. Ok. My car sounds like a busted arse at the moment and looks like I have cracked a set of Tomei manifolds... for the second time. This set is less then 2000 kms old. Yes you hear of guys running stainless manifolds and some of them crack but not everyone has this issue... and not after 2000kms! I have a set of stockers but I dont want to put them on without atleast match porting them... preferably extrude honing them. Does anyone know where I can get this done.... Does someone like Racepace sell modified manifolds off the shelf? I know one thing... I'm not putting another set of stainless ones on....

Hks Twin Power Dli Vs. Brand New Oem Coilpack?
Piggaz replied to cobrAA's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
I had my stock coil packs start to break down over 20psi (370ish rwkw)....while using the Twin spark. Went and bought a new set of stock coils and all good. Personally in your case I would buy a new set of coils.... and if you still have issues then chuck a twin spark at it. -
Ha! Send it to wherever via my joint....it might have some intimate time with a baseball bat!

Its going to be interesting the see just how bad the economy is when going for a 'spirited' drive. Will it be a case of the needle free falling without a parachute? Only time will tell!
