    Brake Pads

Just had a quick squiz at the various pads peeps are recommending with the Hawkes & Ferodo DS2500's being favoured by those in the know. Greenstuff seems to be a popular choice too so I did a bit of a search on their specs. For mainly street use I'd want a pad thats rated up to 450 - 500 degrees with .45 - .50 friction rate. For Malalla I'd want up to a 600 degree pad but with similar friction rate. Pads rated up to 800 degrees are going to be useless on the street and I love my rotors too much. The Greenstuff seems to be rated up to 650 degrees and has a friction rate of .46 ........almost perfect for what I need. Unusually enough though they appear to be a Kevlar pad which tells me they will be expensive. Has anyone got a contact for these pads ie. "mates rates" and does anyone have any info on the DS2500's.

  3. Only cause Turnbull is the only one putting his hand up for the position and like you said Ben, its not a matter of 'if' but 'when'......I actually don't mind Hockey though. He and Rudd used to be mates and did the Kokoda Trail together.

yeah I'm hearing very good things so far about the Hawke HPS pads for street......Hawke HP-Plus are very good too from what I'm hearing but might be abit tuff on rotors. I'm not sure whether they do a HPS for the Brembo caliper though. Even the QFM A1RM (QLD Friction Materials) pads which appear to be on a par with the Hawke HPS (and on the Group Buy section), want the old Brembo pads to re use the backing plates with their material. I'm trying to find a happy medium between heat range and friction co efficiency......I used to wrongly think awhile ago that the friction rate of a pad would simultaneously increase as the heat range increased. I also used to wrongly believe that a track pad would never have the same cold bite as a street pad.....not true in all cases. So going by that theory, why don't we all find a suitable track pad for our street cars if some of them bite well from cold and don't suffer fade at very high temps??.......because they would eat our rotors, we would need earplugs and we would choke in the dust. Up until recently I was looking at ceramic pads due to the almost zero dust & noise factor, but I dont think they would bite as well as the organics or semi metallics......hence why I'm trying to find a happy medium between rotor wear, dust, bite & long lasting. My GTR will probably be 85% street use with the ocassional hills run & track day. I'm definitely no expert in compound compositions so hopefully we can get more input into this thread..........there's already some good info gathering.
  5. Yeah, good call chops, there's no point getting too heated for the sake of an opinion.....having said that, I'm guilty of almost tearing someones head off recently over the 'LCD vs Plasma" debate, only because he was being a keyboard warrior & a smartass but everything I've read in here so far is fairly constructive. Would be a pretty boring world if we all agreed with each other 100% of the time! Ha ha, I told you that there was a little China man responsible for these little red stickers Andy, lol
  6. I'm all over the place tomorrow Steve......unfortunately I wont know till about midday. If midday is not too late to organize anything, ring me then and I'll see if I'm nearby.
  7. thats a great photo shepo and I love the woolsheds as a back drop!
  8. yeah I hear ya Bro!!
  9. you can always hitch a ride with someone Amanda, there's lots of friendly peeps on this forum
  10. with all this talk about food.....who's volunteering for a progressive dinner?
  11. thanks bud.....only prob is you could buy 10 of mine for what they are worth together and still have change left over for a world trip
  12. would be nice to have an NSX come along on a SAU cruise......any Lambos or Ferrys out there? Here are my mates rides....you don't recon they turn heads on a cruise!!
  13. Amen brother....just ask Brocky.....would still be with us today if that tree was 1 metre to the left or right.
  14. that looks awesome Ali....will it be all drift or will there be some grip and drag also?
  15. thats quite true actually. How many times do you see front wheel losses on the track that usually result in very long slides (even at over 200kph) & they just get up again as long as they dont hit a wall along the way. At those speeds your gear only saves your skin from peeling off. Lose a back wheel on the other hand and go over the top then get slapped onto the track and a steel cage around you wont save you.....look at poor Wayne Rainey, I remember seeing that race live on tv, shocking!

Project mu do a good street pad called a B-Spec for street & light track work.......do the HC+ eat rotors Ryan because they have a very high friction rate (over .6) and 800 degrees....they'd have to be pretty noisy for street....any thoughts?

yeah so far I'm hearing good things about the DS2500's.....just a little concerned that they might be a little hard on rotors also hearing alot about Bendix Ultimates being a bit dusty but as far as their friction co efficiency goes, they both sound a treat. I'll reserve my judgement till a bit later I think.

This will be the 1st time I'm changing pads on the GTR since I bought it so I want to make sure its the right decision, hence the thread. Unlike my Ford & Commodore dailys where pads are $50 for front & back and rotors are avail at your local fish shop for a couple of $, the GTR pads can cost up to 10 times that amount not to mention that I've got 2 piece floating & slotted rotors on the front that I don't want to chew up prematurely.
  19. ha ha, +1.....but I think you mean Brendan Nelson. Its not a matter of voting for the best guy but trying to work out who's the worst unfortunately EDIT: I just realized you're talking State & not Federal
  20. I think I told you that night at Villis Chad that you've got a very clean ride with nice wheels to match.......clean & subtle always looks tuff

All good posts so far guys.....anyone had any experience with Hawke or QFM pads?
  22. Two fold reason for this thread (its been awhile) 1.) Trying to generate some good discussion 2.) Will be replacing my pads soon Whats pads do you guys use, why did you select that pad & how do they perform in different situations ie. traffic situations, highway, hills & track? Pls keep on topic and try very hard not to whore this thread.
  23. Thats a very good point Andrew.....you also forgot to mention seatbelts (or the lack thereof) in school buses. I've seen some slow-mo video of kids becoming missiles in bus crashes as slow as 20kph. One kid got thrown from the back seat, down the isle and smashed his head on the front windscreen without touching the ground along the way.....I'm buggered if I know why they still don't have belts on buses yet. It's good to see some intelligent discussion from everyone here for once....SAU needs more threads like this one.
  24. Andy, I reckon some little China man in a small sweat shop makes those stickers on his 486DX coupled to a mono dot matrix printer using rice paper . Seriously bud, you'll be lucky to get that helmet through scrutineering.....in the bike world we call them novelty helmets....give it to your kid and get a $50 ADR open face. And before anybody cuts crook at me about cheap helmets, read the Grant Report from DOTARS (boring but informative)....my helmet had to undergo the same rigorous testing (and pass) as the $1000 helmets!
