Michael, he started at 10.30am and finished at 8.15.
Eugene is meticulous! It helps when you have the passion.
Eugene also tested the paint thickness before the polishing stage, and came up with this!...
Usually, Nissan Skyline GT-R paint is between 80-120 microns thick on the bodywork, but my car registered around 323 microns.
He assumed that because that thickness was on every panel (the C/F bonnet can't be tested, because the machine measures between metal to metal), the whole car had been resprayed. The detail was done on 18/6/11.
Now here's the interesting part.
Todd from JapLink emailed his mechanic in Nara the technician who sourced my car late last year.
The reply that night, 20/6/11, confirmed that my car had never been in an accident (which I already knew), but that...
R34 GT-Rs in Bayside Blue have 4 coats of paint - not 2 (or 3 in the case of chromemulsion MP paint). They have 2x base coats and 2 top coats before the clear.
Additionally, my car had the 'glass paint treatment' from the original owner, and this explains why the paint is so thick on my car.
Even GT-Ts in Bayside Blue only have 2 coats of paint. So only the Bayside Blue GT-Rs have 4 coats.
Peter owner of BodyformAero also mentioned that the Bayside Blue GT-R had a thicker base coat (info that he'd sourced separately).
