R32 Gtr Suspension
LotusGTR replied to LotusGTR's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
OK. We'll I've now had a chat with a local DMS agent and they can use Nolathane spring tops with the existing mounts (with a little fabrication). The DMS springs are straight as opposed to the tapered variety which are stock, so hence the need. Nolathane in place of steel or aluminium means there will be less noise transfer at the top of the spring to the car (which will shit me). They're suggesting a dual rate spring, with thinner gauge spring top for more compliance on the intial travel, then the full spring rate beyond that. What do we all think of linear springs versus 2 stage? I should have a quote for all this frigging around, some time tomorrow. -

They wil fit not a problem. That is exactly the size of an R33 GTR rim, which I've had on my car. Countless many others too no doubt. If anything the offset would ideally be +20 or +22, but it won't kill you having +30. Just sit in the guards a little narrower. -

A couple of further points. Seems with DMS product you need spherical top mounts (in the front for sure. Do such things exist in the rear?). I understand that these are noisier, prone to wear, but give much more of a direct feel? A comment of how much this aspect of things needs to be considered would be appreciated. Oh yeah, they're expensive too... Other question is what is exactly involved in an alignment? Yeah, they hook it up to a machine and it measures things and then they adjust it all. But what do they really do? Clearly the spring damper units just bolt into the car, so that leaves, castor, camber, toe etc to be set. Swaybar adjustment does not sounds like alignment so much as setting up. Some clarification on this would be great. -

You officially have the tautest springs on SAU Further to the above, my car is not daily driven. Can a mod turn this into a survey? -

OK, so it seems springs are 7kg/mm front and 5kg/mm rear. I've read up to 12 and 10 respectively (BBGTR), but the thinking seems to be after market swaybars = less required spring rate. Ride height, forgot that. 350mm front and 340mm rear? Getting near to the end now.........(maybe). -

http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/Dm...oc-t257381.html OK, now I'm hot for these. Thanks Kaga San. Still to have the final word from Roy!, but the adjustability of the damping once in the car is very tempting. Gives a hack like me a good opportunity to fiddle and learn. Easy to change the whole feel of the car. Spring rates you choose for yourself, so you get exactly what you want right from the beginning. By all accounts they're great quality, rebuildable, locally made. If these are the ticket, then my problems to solve are spring rates, where to get them fitted (I can work this out) and whether the std GTR strut tops will suffice. Main question is spring rates. I'll search and research and re-read this thread now. Comments? Suggestions? (keep them polite). -

LotusGTR replied to GTR_STEALTH's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
I'm near (oh, so near) to getting a set of bronze TE37s in 18 x 9.5 +22, which is IMO the ultimate R32 GTR rim. NOTHING is tougher. I have a set of gold BBS LMs and they look the tits. They are 18 x 9 +20. I also have a set of R34 GTR rims in pretty darn good nick. I would consider selling them, but I do like 'em and I'm a wheel whore so have to see how I feel about it. See my AVATAR for pics of the R34 GTR rims on a silver R32 GTR. Colour is kind of grey, gold, metallic (with a tiny amount of green and brown in there). A good 'mysterious' colour... They are 18 x 9 +30. Offset should ideally be +20 (what the heck were Nissan thinking putting +20 rims on an R34?!?!). Do not be conned into +12 or +15 offsets as they will stick out of your guards (assuming 9.5" plus width which they usually are). They are a 33 or 34 offset. Some will say they fit, but not according to me they don't. Do not go wider than 9.5" in a rim. Too big. Minimum road tyre size for 9" is 245 (normal fit). I've got 265 on 9" and they sit straight on the sidewall. I'd go no bigger. The TE37s I've got coming will have 275s on 9.5". I'd go no bigger. I have 245 RE55 (semi slick) on the 9" R34 GTR rims and they are a perfect fit. I'd go no bigger in that tyre. Love my wheels. Hope that helps. Sorry no pics. Oh yeah, stick with forged. Light. Strong. Cool. (ever thought about forging a rim? Cool process. Man is clever). But for big brakes I might have stuck with the original R32 GTR rims as they are beautiful. So light. Need 10mm spacers to look right plus some lowering of the car. Same goes for R33 GTR rims. 17" fills the guard a little more, and is slightly more in keeping with the original look of the car. 18 is getting kind of big, visually, for the old 32. Still, love the 18s on mine. -

Thanks fellas. Got any ideas about cost? I've got to establish max buying price for a second hand set of Teins, and need rough est. of the additional items. I'd hope it would end up meaningfully less than the drive in drive out options (putting aside the question of what will deliver the best outcome......which I still don't bloody know!!). -

http://www.importmonster.com.au/view?url=h...&title=TEIN OK, back to me. Now let's assume I do a flip flop on my last suggested course of action and buy something like BB GTR suggested as per his link at the beginning of this thread. Questions are as follows: 1. How likely are these able to be re-valved to a softer settings. I hear BB GTR and other 'Benno' set ups are very track orientated, which might be to OTT for me as I'm not chasing times. Might be too hard for my mountain passes and road driving. 2. How much to re-valve. 3. How much for springs, as these will no doubt need replacing I'll assume fitment and alignment for around $400. Please correct me if I'm wrong. Total items: Coilovers Springs Re-build / re-valve of coilovers Fitting and alignment Forget anything? Cheers. -
Still lookin'........C'mawn.

Sell them to me if they're a quality item. -
I'll assume you meant 'babies'. Answer is no idea. Give me some details. Who made by, what off, how old, what spring rates, what condition etc etc. PM me a number if it's easier to talk through it.

Calling Out 32 Owners With 33 Gtr Wheels
LotusGTR replied to Tomek's topic in Exterior & Interior Styling
Hot lookin' rims dude!! Still look sweet? I got these powdercoated Precious Steel Pearl if that helps. Never got them on my car. Sold 'em to White32. Reckon they would have looked fantastic on my silver R32 GTR. Offsetwise the R33 GTR rims are +30 but I reckon +20 / +22 looks toughest. -

The search is over. I've found these Killabee Coilovers! That bee sure looks tough. LOL at whoring my own thread. I've got a couple of second hand options now. Revalved Bilsteins, and some Ohlins (more details to come), so I'll get the detail on here ASAP. -
http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/Bi...tml&hl=PSS9 OK, so timing in life is everything and I'm spewing I missed these. I'm looking to get some coilovers soon and have the new / suspension shop options lined up, but before I go that way, lets see what the community has for me first. Only interested in quality gear in mint condition. Cheers.

R32 Gtr Suspension
LotusGTR replied to LotusGTR's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
and then there are these... http://www.buddyclub.com.au/ N+ $2,300 or Racing Spec. 'three thousand and something'......Apparently there is no stock at all in the country and no-one knows when there will be. I'm getting a call back apparently. So, Tein are apparently re-negotiating with Fulcrum as they've sold nothing this year because of the currency situation, but at this stage are out on pricing. Bilstein do not make a coilover apart from the PSS9 which is expensive and no longer available for an R32 GTR (last 8 kits sold the Unique Autosports), but someone is looking into adapting an R34 kit to suit. Lastly there is a 'home made' coil over kit, built up from the Bilstein B6/8 damper unit. At least this is available, has custom springs and damper valving. But we can all guess it's going to cost me. So apparently if you have an R32 GTR its 'home made' Bilsteins or nothing right now....
