Gary et al, R specs, R34 GTR / BB LM rims, sprinting and 'spirited' road use. No racing, I'm too chicken. No ducting. I guess if the brakes get too hot I just slow down as it doesn't matter if I do. From the various posts it sounds like they're a good thing, but not necessary for my application. I might spend the 'savings' on a decent clutch and perhaps a Nismo diff as I suspect mine is tired. Suspension I've got old and stiff coilovers and some swaybars. Most of the critical bushes have been replaced and I'm running a small amount of castor and camber. Lower ball joints are stuffed but $$ to replace so I'll wait for another day. Thanks for your input.

What he said. Figure out who knows their shit on this forum. It's not hard. Look around. Ask again. Have a think about it. Ask for specific examples or personal experience. Ask the questions in the right way. Why am I writing here.....?

OK, Roy and all the usual-braking-expert suspects, let's have it on this topic. I can go to a number of places and buy AP brake kits. Common to all of them are CP5555 6 pot calipers. What differs are the rotor options. You can get PWR, AP Strap Drive, and one mob make their own (I'll be seeing these this afternoon). They range from 32-34mm thick (the caliper is spaced for the thicker rotor) and 355 to 365mm in diameter. There is a fair bit of difference in the price from one kit to another. $1,400 from the most expensive to the least, with the most expensive having the AP Strap Drive system. So I understand SD is AP's take on a fully floating rotor and the benefits are the usual ones of a floating rotor (minimal pad knock off, allowance for thermal expansion etc) but they are not noisy and prone to wear as per the conventional bobbin systems. I've yet to check out the other rotors in question, but they have been described as semi floating (which seems to be what StopTech offer), so the question is......... How important is it to have a fully floating rotor? How much difference do semi flaoting rotors make? Is it worth an extra $1,400 for SD!? Does anyone have experience of the AP Strap Drive system and or floating versus non? The gtr.co.uk site has little if any info on this. Thanks.

I know it aint an M3 but I drove the 335i a couple of weekends ago. Took it way for a weekend. Also drive the 135i. Both boring as bat shit and not worth the money. GTR makes you feel alive. The BMW makes you feel like your dad. Get a GTR and a reasonable daily driver like a GTI Golf.

Anyone help out here. Thought I had his number but do not. This is for good not evil. Please PM me if you can help.

I'm straight down to my tuner and demanding my car does THAT. House up for sale.

Csc / B-max Brakes
LotusGTR replied to LotusGTR's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
From memory the 355mm 6 pot set up is roughly $3600, so pretty much the same as the 355mm 4 pots from ST (via the Oz distributor) -
Stoptech Brakes
LotusGTR replied to phunky_monkey's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
I've given this a go. People tend to like them but there are stories of pad knock off (the brakes or the car's fault?). Some people seem to rate them well for heavy street use but suggest they are limited on the track. Some seem to prefer APs....... So much of this seems to be subjective. I'm beginning to think it comes down to any number of known reputable brands, your budget, and what you 'just want'. -
Stoptech Brakes
LotusGTR replied to phunky_monkey's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
Righto, so I've done the maths on those piston sizes and assuming they are correct (remember ST won't disclose sizes and make a point of telling you their kits are designed for a straight swap over, so for each type of vehicle they make kits for the pistons must be different sizes so they exactly match the OEM BMC - maybe) the ST pistons are 3.5% larger than the std Sumis. That being the case, 15/16 goes to 15.5/16. So, given my BMC needs replacing, do I get a 1" or stick with the std 15/16? This excludes the rear which are a 2 piston cf the single OEM, so you'd expect an increase there too, so perhaps that takes it to 1" or even 17/16.......Got specs on the rears? I've been told if I go the CSC 6 piston 355mm front and 343mm single piston rear to go for the 17/16........I still have no data on their piston sizes but should be able to get that and double check that advice. I'll start researching the APs and BMCs. -

Duncan, what type of GTR rears please? -

Troy, how you educate and confuse my tiny mind.......Good point about the radial mounts. Both ST and CSC are radials. CSC also has external brake line bridges. The APs sound and interesting option though. Certainly better on the budget. I might need to talk to you as right now I have too many options, and in some cases I'm missing information. Can't compute. -
Stoptech Brakes

Thanks for that. I'm sure I'm not spending money that efficiently when it comes to lap times etc. But a new / solid brake set up that is 100% reliable, that future proofs power upgrades, and isn't on its ear most of the time and is 'nice' to use are all good thing. -

BB, yes, mostly, point taken. Would be good to know why ST are better if they are. -

Troy, you've said berfore that whilst there is nothing wrong with R33 Brembos there is nothing particularly special about them and you wonder why people ask for so much money for them. So if the ST set up is like the Brembo GTR then I'll spend $2.5k and get some of those, and not the $6k ST want........ Unless, there is more to the ST proposition, or I'm over simplifying?? -
R34 Gtr Rim Technical Drawing

Yeah, I've spoken to Andrew and his is a 355mm I'm pretty sure. He even sent me an image. -

OK. Anyone out there actually running Stoptech brakes? Please PM me if youy are. I'm having problems getting piston sizes from ST and can't determine what BMC size to match their R32 GTR kits to. They are very coy about this information, which really leaves me unable to make a decision. Any suggestions? Anyone know this info? -
R34 Gtr Rim Technical Drawing
LotusGTR replied to LotusGTR's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
Thanks. CSC 365mm with 6 piston caliper don't fit. I took a rim there and trial fitted. Not enough internal diameter. I know their 355mm kit fits. I know 365mm Alcon fit. I've got the Stoptech templates, but the cutting out of the peice of paper seems a crude way of measuring things.....It's down to CSC or Stoptech for me, so want to know the STs will fit. I've got a lazer measurer so I'll grab a wheel off this weekend and check out the internal diameter and then match that off against the radius info on the ST website. This can't answer the question of lateral clearance, but I'll have to trust the paper tempate for that. Trouble with ST is there are no people with actual experience with them and GTRs (that I can find). Still trying to solve the BMC size issue with the STs. Any ideas? -
Anyone got one of these? If not, got the exact internal diameter of this rim?
-
Oh, OK. I was told by the brake guy they used stickers in some instances so assumed there was a product that would do the job. I'll follow up with him and see if I can get in direct contact with the sticker supplier..... Thanks.

OK, this is an unusual one. I'm going to aftermarket brakes, and I want to keep the original look as much as possible so will be ordering the calipers with no branding, and in black (I'm not sure who I'm going to be fooling). I want to print up some NISSAN stickers on heat resistant material so I can then put them on the calipers. Any graphic designers out there who can supply me an artwork file I can give to the printers? I guess it's the classic all in caps NISSAN I'm looking for (as per what is on OEM R32 GTR calipers). I guess in a silver colour to match the aluminium finish. If there is an easier way to do this or someone has been down this road, then please let me know. Thanks.

Difference? R32 -> R33 Gtr Crank
LotusGTR replied to johnbarry88's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
I was told by the guy who built my engine that the area that the oil pump attaches to the crank is superior......It was only last Friday I was told by someone else I trust a little less, that there is no difference, and that a 33 crank would need a collar to ensure the oil pump had a good grip on the crank. I too would like to hear the answer to this one. -

Adam, what size is the rotor and how many pots on the caliper on the Enkei? -
If it's love mate, how could I stand in the way of that.....
