I'm sure a cut a polish will take care of the fine scratches/swirls that are unfortunately on every single panel BUT .. as I said, the roof and bonnet have a lot of paint damage that nothing can fix (it's clearly cracked paint with undercoat visible) I'll take some piccies and post them soon...

I'm in sydney ... can FHRX do this as they seem to have a good rep. But to be honest I'm not sure if any reputable audio pro would bother with this stuff as I don't want to spent to much money ($350 tops incl. a decent mp3 player with ipod support) The factory cd player unit (not the tape deck) has aux-in on the front panel so it's easy to connect an ipod, the only problem is the ipod isn't being charged .. so if I get a ciggy lighters charger for the ipod I'm set but then I've got 2 messy wires hanging around. What's this about russian hack? Hm I think I better take a photo of the stuff I'm talking about ...

I just took my 1 week old black R34 for a good wash ... I was aware that there are a LOT of fine scratches and swirls on almost every single panel of the car (seems the japanese owner used those dodgy drive through car wash places a LOT ( ) so I bought some Meguire/Autoglym product to try and do a detail myself ... After a good wash with Mequire's Gold wash I came to realize the paint is in a worse condition that I thought ... esp. the roof and the bonnet. There are so many frigging damage spots (1-5mm sq. spots of cracked paint ... oxidation? salt? acid rain?) where the paint is completely gone and all you see white cracks and the metal body in the centre. So after the wash now, what I thought were tons of insects and bird droppings turned out to be damaged paint that no shampoo or wax is gonna fix (( Can anyone tell me if it's possible to have just the roof and bonnet resprayed and my approx. costs? The car is factory black (GV1?) I'm in sydney ... my dad's mate's son does car spraying for a living so he might be able to do it a bit cheaper hopefully. I definately don't have $3-5k to respray the whole car Even though there are a few scratches and damage to the doors, boot and other panels they're very minor compared to the roof and bonnet. I'll try and take some pics later of the roof .. it looks horrible from a close distance. The only good news is that, like any black car, it still looks farken awesome from atleast 3-4m away (when you can't see the paint damage/surface scratches) !! ;D

tried that Mequire ScratchX today to try and take out some very fine scratches/swirls on a black r34 ... the stuff doesn't do shit.

can you post your suggestions/thoughts here? You're in Brissy so there's no way I can get up there anyway ... besides, your advice in written form may help more than just me By the way, I still haven't found a translation for all the buttons with jap writing on them ..anyone seen it? I've seen someone here mention that there was a trasnlation done once but I can't find that thread.

you talking about audio or video? I'm not looking to install an aftermarket dvd player, just a cd/mp3 ie. audio player..

got an R34 GTT last week and it has that litle pop-out TV screen where most people have the 3 guages instead. It also has a CD player with a joystick connected to the TV so you control the cd player using the joystick and TV.. It's a neat unit and plays standard CDs but all the buttons have japanese writing on them (except the 2 that say 'cd' and 'tv') - does anyone have the translation for this factory audio system? Also I'd like to know if it's possible to replace the standard tape-deck unit (the one sitting on the bottom, closest to the shifter) with an after-market one and have it connected to the rest of the system ie. be able to control it with the joystick and TV system that's in the car? Strathfield told me they'd have to completely disconnect the cd player (with the joystick) and the TV if they were to install an aftermarket cd player instead of the tape-deck. Anyone know if there's a compatible aftermarket (ipod compatible) cd/mp3 player that works with the factory TV/Joystick (or atleast the TV) as I'd like to keep the TV???

I just went through my first tank of fuel on my new 98 R34 GTT and got 340kms out of 50l of BP Ultimate. All apart from the final 50kms of high way driving, was city (stop n go) driving. So the fuel eco isn't so great but then again it's not THAT bad either as it translates to less than 15l/100kms and that's 90% city driving. I'm getting belts replaced this friday and will ask them to hook the car up to the computer and check if everything's alright ... might get a new O2 sensor I think, but apparently those aren't cheap (was quoted $150-200)

my black r34's entire surface esp. bonnet has light surface scratches incl. swirl marks. In the sun it's quite noticable. It's as if some idiot wiped down the whole car with a dirty rag and left those fine scratches over the entire car. Can anyone recommend a place in sydney that will get rid off those? I need the entire car to be polished and have those fine surface scratches gone .. later I can do it myself, but I'd like a pro to do it the first time.

Hmm this is a bit worrying... I've just got 300k out of 50l of BP Ultimate so that's approx. 17l/100kms, yet everyone here seems to be getting 400-500kms per tank. I got the car last week and I think the dealer 'tuned' the computer or atleast I heard something along the lines. Could it be they've screwed up the fuel economy at the same time?? The only aftermaket mod I have right now is a 3" turbo back exhaust and bigger wheels. I haven't been 'racing' the car but it's mostly stop n go (under 70kmh) sort of traffic through the city with no highway driving whatsoever. What do you guys think?

yeah but you drive a different car (r33 gtst?).. unless its stock wheels are 17"s and tyres 225/45 you cannot compare the two.

I'll speak to the BJ guy tommorow and see what he reckons... I'd "like" 235/40/18 at the front and 255/35/18 ar the rear - but that means the fronts will be 1cm bigger (ie. sidewall 0.5cm higher). I'm not sure if that's a bad thing - I'll see what he reckons and go from there. Thanks all. Edit: or maybe instead of the above setup, I'll go 245/40/18 all around. That'll give me a higher side wall (better ride comfort??), it's only 1.9cm extra diameter and 3% slower than speedo says (driving 97kmh when it says 100kmh)

K I've decided to try the Maxxis Z1's due to price being only $179 per corner and me not being able to find ONE negative review for them plus they seem to have won some Wheel's price/performance test. Now just to get the size right !!

Sorry I've fixed that typo. it's the fronts that would have a 1cm larger diameter with that sort of setup ... is that any better or still stupid? Should I just go 235/40 front and rear?

what about 235/40/18 on the fronts and 255/35/18 on the rears? Or would that be too weird a setup? that would give me a 1cm larger diameter at the FRONTS and 1.5% in speed difference (rears faster) and 0.5cm difference in sidewall height (fronts higher) Edited: fronts were meant to be 235/40 not 45

cheers according to the tyre size calculator I should be OK to get 255/35/R18 The diametre difference is negligible (0.2%) What does everyone reckon? is this a good size for fronts AND rears ?

does anyone know what the stock tyre sizes are on the stock R34 GT-T wheels?

I spoke to someone earlier who said that Nissan told him that yes these kits are in their catalogue and can be ordered. But expect to pay through the nose for it (hopefully your insurance is paying??) Cheers

well my new rims are here all ready to go yay! Now I just need to decide on the tyres ... I see a lot of good responses on the Federal 595SS so I might as well go with the flow. Now just to find the right size The stock rims are only 17x7.5 but the tyres on them are 225/45/17 - thats like 8.85" wide tyre..doesn't that seem a bit wide for a 7.5" rim?

you mean you're going 235 at the front and 265 at the rear or are you really putting wider tyres at the front? Speaking of which, why is it so common to see people put wider tyres at the back when the rim width is the same ??

the calculator doesn't seem to take into effect new rim width .. stockies are 17x7.5" and I'm going up to 18x8.5

anyone?? looks like I might be getting my new rims today so i'll need to go out and buy some rubber .. I've pretty much decided on Federal SS 595's but I'd like to know what size I'm looking at so as to be able to ring around and find the best price.

I'd like to know this myself .. can you take a say, white factory kit and repaint into factory black? how much do you reckon you'd be up for if you were to have a rear bar and sides repainted??
