What this means is that you are an idiot who does not deserve to have a license let alone a Skyline. Please take you juvenile tales of street racing elsewhere.

Bloke, look up the history books. Ferrari didn't win jack shit last year.
-
Ferrari put themselves in the position of being (Last year) the only front line team to be running on Bridgestones. That it burnt them by denying them data & hampering the Bridgestone engineers can only be regarded as poetic justice.
-
Actually, while I think of it if their tyres are so bloody good & their engineers so clever, why don't they comply with the cap on testing that every other team was happy to?

Can-am And The Era Of Big Banger Sports Cars
djr81 replied to Muz's topic in Motorsport Discussion & Builds
Wasn't that car in Germany at one stage? I vaguely recollect reading about it in Wheels magazine - the bloke used to tow it to races with his 928 Porsche... My vote is for the McLaren M6. -
Yeah, if the pommie engineering etc is so shthouse why did Ferrari have to resort to making their cars in England at one stage? GTO = Guilford Technical Office... I think the reason people have issues with the way Ferrari goes about their "racing" is that so much of it is inherently dodgy. BTW, if Schumacher is so bloody good why does he need to have Massa flogging around on Friday and Saturday destroying his tyres just to provide him with set up data?
-
Yeah, well I would give otherwise vital parts of my anatomy to be able to get a reproduction M6. Bung in an LS1 & you have a lifetime of scaring the shit out of yourself.

Well, from what I understand, unlike the March version, the Williams car did actually have drive going to both sets of rear wheels... It was entirely legal, just didn;t work worth a damn. There is a difference between creative interpretation of the FIA rulebook (which all the teams do from time to time) & flat out theft. Unfortunately, at the end, Chapman fell into the latter category. It's a shame by the way that Williams had to give up on the Bin Laden sponsorship they had in 1980 or thereabouts.

Muz, absolutely it was for cooling. If you disconnected it the engine would overheat. It was entirely accidental that it produced huge amounts of downforce. Sorry, but I was always a Ron Tauranac fan before I was a Colin Chapman fan. Ron had/has integrity, Chapman had, well would you buy a used car from him? I will dig it out later some time but when the judge on the Delorean scandal passed sentence on one of the Lotus managers he said in as many words that if Chapman hadn't died of a heartattack he too would be going to the big house.... I can recommend Ron Tauranac's biography, by I think, Mike Lawrence. It is called Brabham, Ralt & Honda or similar. I think the Pitstop bookshop in Perth has a few copies left at a knock down price. It's a good read. Will have a look at the Chapparel book when I get home from work to see which model it was. Anyway, I always liked the McLaren Can-Am cars more....

I think it is best to sort out your compliance shop before you buy the car. Strictly speaking, it is not mandatory, but it is by far the better practice. Otherwise you can get into stupid situations like the one shown above and end up incurring delays and possibly having to spend more than you think because of additional transport costs etc. However, it has to be done before you ship it. But in any case it is a good idea to have all your ducks in a row before starting to spend money.

Gordon Murray was, in his time, amongst the very best of the F1 designers - up there with John Barnard & Harvey Postlethwaite. As for the BT46B, well it wasn't really all that innovative, more a clever bodge around the rules. At the time ground effects was well and truly the focus of all the teams and to be really competitive you had to be on top of your aerodynamic game. Unfortunately Brabham at that time were running a flat 12 Alfa Romeo 3 Litre motor. The problem was that. compared for the ubiquitous DFV, the head of the Alfa motor took up space that was need for the underbody venturies that produced the downforce. F1 had long had a ban on moveable aerodynamic devices. Gordon Murray argued that the primary purpose of the fan was not aerodynamic it was for cooling. It just, coinicidently, sucked all the air out from under the car. Eventually fans were banned as well as the BT46B. For the record a Chaparral was the first car to use this innovation. Also, Colin Chapman was a crook.

My memory is not what it was. Was the 93 Ferrari the one with the wierd arse false floor setup that ruined Ivan Capelli's career? Happenned to look at some old footage of the 94 race the other week. Was absolutely staggered by how much the cars moved around. Understeer/oversteer/wheelspin - just awesome stuff.

Update: 1st Track Day With New Suspension Set-up
djr81 replied to justinfox's topic in Motorsport Discussion & Builds
The other thing to note is that if you want to run 255's you will need to have the rear guards rolled to take the lip out of them. Otherwise they scrape & annoy the shit out of you. For whatever reason GT-R's need to look like a dog with worms, ie dragging it's arse on the ground. What ride height (More correctly centre of wheel to underside of guard measurement) are you running? I am presently wondering whether 350/340 or 355/345 is better although in truth I am leaning toward the latter because I don't like what it is doing to the rear suspension geometry at the lower setting. -
Update: 1st Track Day With New Suspension Set-up
djr81 replied to justinfox's topic in Motorsport Discussion & Builds
Justin, It is not actually that daunting. I would recommend the following: Front sway bar to full soft. Rear sway bar to full hard. Dial as much -ve camber into the front end as you can/as your temperature gauge tells you you need. Don't go nuts with the caster as it doesn't help much on an R32. Don't use too much -ve camber on the rear, no more than -1 degree. Get the rake angle sorted. The front ride height should be +10mm on the rear. That should get you well within the ballpark. Remember that GT-R's will typically turn in well, wash out through the middle of the corner (ie across the apex) & then get the power down well. Understter will kill you times by preventing you from getting on the power early in the corner. Get rid of that & your lap times will improve massively. -
Hicas, What Does It Actually Do
djr81 replied to bren's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
The short answers is to type HICAS into the search engine & all will be revealed. But to answer your questions: Do the wheels turn the same way as the front or the opposite way? Both Does the Hicas system try to work as some sort of stability control or does it just improve turn in? It doesn't work like an electronic stability control system if that is what you are thinking. It is supposed to make the car steer better. Ive removed the Hicas today with a locking bar but Id like to know exactly what the system was designed to do Why did you remove something when you don't know what it does? -
What will Williams have for next year? Well Toyota motors for one. Remember it is much, much easier to make a quick car reliable than to make a reliable car quick. The Williams this year has been quick when its tyres allowed. Certainly much better than the RBR. F1 is littered with tales of coulda woulda shoulda and with people with deep pockets chucking money at the sport & getting nowhere. Last success I can think of was son of rajab Hesketh & that was in nineteen seventy something...

To be clear: In 1984 & 1985 Renault were running their own formula 1 team. At the same time they supplied Lotus with 1.5 litre turbo charged motors. Lotus won races during those years and also in 1986 with the Renault motor before moving to Honda power. The Gerard Ducarouge (Spelling?) designed chassis worked well, Ayrton Senna drove brilliantly & the JPS Lotus' from that era just happenned to be the most beautiful GP cars ever built. Look it up in the history books if you don't believe me.
-
Fair point. Best I shut up then. Look, over there, it's Mark Webber.
-
That the one. Reminds me that Schumacher ain't fit to polish Senna's shoes by comparison....
-
Not sure what server it is on, but there is some footage of him driving a Honda NSX around Suzuka from the 1990's. The flutter foot throttle control is unbelievable.
-
Dunno, some bloke from Brazil. They reckon he used to be able to drive a bit. You know, back in the day when men were men & F1 cars still had slicks.
-
Sorry, but they did. The last iteration of the Renault team finished up in 1985 - at the same time the JPS Lotus Renault was doing the rounds with some bloke called Ayrton Senna driving it.

Commodore Is Not The Best Car Ever
djr81 replied to craig V8 taffe's topic in General Automotive Discussion
If you ever want to amuse yourself at a car yard ask the dealer where the car inquestion is made. eg the Holden bloke where the Viva comes from, or the Ford bloke where the Focus is nailed together. Mostly they either don't know or are far too embarrassed to answer the question. -
There can be only two reasons. 1: Money. 2: Certainty, ie he will have an ok drive next year.
-
Spook, no one is going to tell you how many points need to be gained before the performance related out can no longer be triggered. Webber never even said this is what he did to Frank, after all. Having said that I would like to know how many years the contract is for - not that it means very much these days, just ask JV. BTW, did any find out what the hell happenned to Christiano Da Matta. Heard something about him pole axing a dear. Oh dear.
