  1. If you ever want to amuse yourself at a car yard ask the dealer where the car inquestion is made. eg the Holden bloke where the Viva comes from, or the Ford bloke where the Focus is nailed together. Mostly they either don't know or are far too embarrassed to answer the question.
  2. There can be only two reasons. 1: Money. 2: Certainty, ie he will have an ok drive next year.
  3. Spook, no one is going to tell you how many points need to be gained before the performance related out can no longer be triggered. Webber never even said this is what he did to Frank, after all. Having said that I would like to know how many years the contract is for - not that it means very much these days, just ask JV. BTW, did any find out what the hell happenned to Christiano Da Matta. Heard something about him pole axing a dear. Oh dear.
  4. Maybe if someone had a graph of viscosity versus temperature that could be posted it would be easier to explain. Unfortunately I can't find one.
  5. So all those races Senna won in the Lotus-Renault were a figment of my imagination? Damn.
  6. Hmmm, maybe it is asking the question that can never be answered: Does my arse look fat in this?
  7. But Roy, if the thing with RB turns pear shaped, who is going to want Webber two years hence? It is getting a bit late inthe day for him. As for Renault wanting an unknown next to Fisi - well, have they lost interest in winning races? Can't think of any other reason. BTW, Baron, what is the unit of measure for shiteness?
  8. 50 is not the cold weight. It is the measure of the high temperature viscosity. As for the numbers being crap, it is easy to compare the difference between two grades. Just tip some out of the bottle - it will suprise you how different they are. Essentially, to compare the 5W50 to the 10W30 they are basically the same oil, just with different viscosity modfiers. The 5W50 will be "thinner' when cold & "thicker" when hot. This is a relative thing as obviously the oil's viscosity will decrease as it gets hotter. At the end of the day you will be marginally better off with the 5W50 because it is more stable, most noticeably when hot.
  9. Having tried the three different pads I would like to offer the following observations: RB74's Good points: Nice & cheap. Locally made. Bad Points Noisy when cold. Not as good at high temps as the DS2500's If you get them too hot they lose their friction coefficient which doesn't come back ever. Bendix Ultimates: Good points Cheap(ish) Quiet Bad Points Dusty. Not brilliant at high temps. Ferodo DS2500's Good Points. Much better on a track than the other two brands. Noisy when they get hot. Nice high friction coefficient. Bad Points. Not cheap. I am not sure what to make of the disc wear argument. I had a set of DBA4000 series rotors on my R32. After about 5000kms (including a number of track days) I had gone through three sets of RB74's on the front & retained one set of Bendix ultimates on the back. When I went to upgrade the pads to DS2500's I found the rear rotors to have substantial cracks in them & the fronts to have lesser cracks, but also what I can best describe as crazing on the surfaces. So the two pads that are ostensibly easiest on rotors were still man enough to trash a complete set. Of course that could simply be a comment about the design of the DBA 4000 series grooved rotors......
  10. Well, my gob is smacked & my flabber aghast. Why the hell would he sign for Red Bull? Surely next years Williams Toyota is a better bet than a Red Bull Ferrari. Hope he didn't sign for more than a year because I don't reckon he would have had a better chance at landing a plum job than in the last few months. The Mike Gascoyne thing - look at the job he did for Jordan all those years ago - Williams needs someone to sort their reliability out and quickly. As an aside, sad to see JV given the arse. Unsuprising, but sad all the same.
  11. How many - none because the speedo's have all been tampered with before they leave Japan.
  12. If you look up the history books you will see how heavily CAMS handicapped the GT-R's to allow everyone else to be even half competitive, Sierra's included. Ford stopped putting V8's in Falcons in 1982 (The XE with the Clevelend motor) & only restarted with a small 302 Windsor in the EB. They are still paying for it today by way of losing a generation of potential buyers.
  13. Funny that, I looked at the new Commode & thought it looks much more like a Camry than it ever did. Particularly from side on.
  14. So, someone who works with Camry's is claiming a Commode has a fat arse? Toyota have been predicitng the extinction of the Commodore/Foulcon for a very long time now. They did it with the Camry's in about 1990 (The one with the chook in the ads), then again with the last series, again with the Avalon (Remember them?) & now again with the Aurion or whatever they are to call it. Keep in mind Ford doesn't import the Mondeo because they don't sell, nor do the mid sized Holdens much. I don't mind Toyotas. I just wish they could build something interesting to go with all that build quality & bulletproof reliability. Having said that, the new hybrid Lexus is a fine thing.
  15. Hey man, don't stereotype people. I love driving my line wearing a flannie. Flannel, the new black.
  16. From what I understand Imports 101 now offer compliancing in Perth for R32's. So give Danny a ring.
  17. Well to take the example of the last SES sprint at Wanneroo, out of 90 entrants there was exactly zero HSV's. Which is not untypical. There were on the other hand, BMW M3's, GT40 replicas, old Alfa Romeo's, rotary Mazda's, a Lancia Delta Integrale, Westfield's, WRX's, Skylines, a Honda 2000s, even a Falcon ute - infact just about any and everything that a person who is interested in cars would enjoy. That you don't like something doesn't make you close minded. It may actually make you an astute judge.
  18. Taking an HSV to the track is a bit like taking a barge to the track. There is a reason you don't see them competing in club level sprint events & the like. Reason is they really suck when they get near a circuit. So the HSV owners clubs stick to themselves & save on embarrassment.
  19. Terry, The car is NOT designed to move around on the subframe. The bushes are installed to isolate the chassis (& therefore you) from excess road noise. As the car ages the bushes deteriorate & eventually fail. Most of the difference is that between the pineapples & stuffed bushes, not the difference between pineapples & that way Nissan intended it to be.
  20. Hmmm, interesting that you say that. I previously used them, but I found if they got a big dose of temperatures the friction coefficients went away and never returned. I recently changed them for DS2500's & would recommend those. RB74's are around $170 for a front set, but the DS25000'S are $250ish.
  21. If you are in Melbourne, try Racebrakes. They should have them & be able to post them out.
  22. I will be doing handstands if williams come good. Not because of Mark, but just because they are my favoured team. But, man have they got reliability issues. Here is a thought. They have Toyota engines next year. Should they still sign Mike Gascoyne?
  23. Personally, I think the mass damper thing is a bit of a red herring. It was tyres that killed them in Germany. You don't dump your blistered boots out the back of the pit (So the whole world can see) unless you are majorly pissed of with your supplier.
  24. Different models, different blanks. So what model do you have?
  25. If your missus doesn't understand, maybe you should have just sold her instead....
