  1. I actually haven't seen it and it was fitted before I got the chance sorry.. It was your new mate Dylan Thomas who did the 4 vent design. He had previously suffered the same thing we had with the base Ralliart design so they did a 4 breather design. I actually just purchased Dylan's old tank as they were going from the saddle design to a boot mounted flat design as he was being team serious and wanting to extract every last litre out of his tank for 6hr . I personally am not a fan of the safety aspects of a boot mounted tank though but that's a different topic to this one. But Dylan would be a good bloke to chat to about fuel tank breathers.
  2. We had a failed breather on our EVO at the Winton 300. Caused the fuel bladder to expand, pushed the carbon bucket down onto the drive shaft - and wore a hole through the middle of it. Thankfully we didn't a) blow up (it's right next to the exhaust) or even b) run out of fuel at the end. I'm still not 100% sure how either of those didn't happen however. So with the new fuel bladder we now have 4 breathers rather than 1.
  3. I fully understand this logic - except I stupidly purchased half my EMO instead of just doing the smart leasing thing. They are an odd thing to drive - I found you need to basically over-drive them to get some speed out of them. They seem to respond well it it. And they are actually more fun to drive than I was expecting consequently. But I still don't have any love for them. lol I haven't driven mine since Nov and probably won't before Bathrust. Still - like me I'm sure you've already started the count down to the event. Should be a ripper.
  4. If the stars align I'll be there.
  5. Wait a week and buy a Renault instead. And then you can learn about this.
  6. Not too many yet Prank - will try and get a few more once the race livery goes on. But here is another from last weekend.
  7. Who knew there was an EVO section on SAU. Here's mine as it currently stands. Will be getting war paint soon however. EVO X RS - specifically purchased to do Bathurst 6hr and a few other smaller motorsport events.
  8. It has a number. It's just very very small. He was told after the race by race control to buy some bigger ones. lol
  9. PIARC weekend was fun. Next time out we'll be racing together at the Winton 300 rather than against each other.
  10. Nice one. I think entry numbers are up around the 70 mark now so it will definitely run 2 separate fields again. PIARC are running a club race meet this weekend for the first time which Chris and I are going down for. Will be a bit of a run what you brung event but it should be some fun, cheap simple racing. It's good to see some base club level racing events in Vic.
  11. 40 entries in the first 24hrs for the Winton 300. Should be a cracker.
  12. Another thing many people don't appreciate is how much actual change in compression is generated by the little knobs on the top of the shocks. If you put the RP Tein shocks on a shock dyno and change the setting from full soft to full hard you might only see a 2% total change in value. These shocks through years of development have the valving and stuff nutted out to work well with these cars which is why when pretty much anyone bolts them in they work well and really clicking the knobs is just fine tuning personal preferences. In something like the MCA's the difference between full hard and soft can be 10% total change and that is why they can be much trickier to get set up correctly. You look at the full top of the range stuff like the full race products from Ohlins, Sachs, Supashock (what I now use), KW etc and that number can be even higher. But this is one of the reasons why these "race" shocks cost more. It has positives and negatives. I know I needed the help of Steve Glenney to get my MCA's dialed in properly but it was a great learning experience of what compression, bump, ride height all effect on a cars behaviour.
  13. Sorry - my inbox was full. I used to be an Admin here so was granted more space. I've emptied my inbox so you should be right now.
  14. There was no doubt the overall net gain on the MCA's was up over the RP Teins (you would hope so given they were more $$$). That said the MCA's were no walk in the park to set-up to get those gains. In fact with very small changes in bump or ride height they were worse than the RP Teins. When we went from the blue R34 to the white one with the same set of shocks it took me 6 months to re-find the sweet spot on the MCA's just due to the change in overall weight and weight distribution in the two cars. And I'm talking a change of 2s / km with no other changes to the car other than getting the bump and ride height settings right. My experience with the RP Teins was they had a much broader sweet spot which made them a great shock whether you were at PI, Sandown or Targa without having to change anything on set-up - where as the MCA's could get you and overall net gain, but only if you dialed the shocks in exactly right at each different place. So if you were comfortable in doing that the MCA's were ahead - if you wanted a set and forget shock then the RP Teins were the winner.
  15. Yeah sadly the flying Ferrari caused more $$$ worth of damage than it cost me to buy. The thing with 2B Prod Sports is you can do what you like with the engine as long as it's under 6L. (just can't make it forced induction if it's not forced induction to begin with). Currently it's a Class B car in Prod Sports - could have a jump of power and still be Class B safe as the classes are based upon lap times. If it gets too much more power though it will go Class A and have to race Cup Cars and say that Daytona Coupe thing (which is now FARKEN fast). That's all good presuming it can handle that much power. The one great thing about the car now is it's low cost on brakes, fuel and tyres and the Quaife box is cheap to maintain (probably max $3K refresh costs per season). Not sure how much that would change switching to a V8 powered car. But I know he has that spare V8 from the 3rd G50Z (the one that was badly burnt). They seem like fun although they aren't proving to be overly reliable currently. But I'd certainly be interested to see what he comes up with if he gets a V8 one done. It'd be great if there was something else to take it to the Exige at Bathurst 12hr as that's currently a 1 car race in Class C.
  16. Yep. Steve purchased the wreck back off me. He picked it up after the Aust GT Phillip Island 101 round in May and took it back to QLD. It was super cool - but it definitely needed a little bit more go. Especially given it has to locally compete against the Doughnut King V6 Exige which is fairly cheater spec against official GT4 BOP measures. If you could make it 250rwkw's it'd be mega though as Prod Sports etc doesn't require the cars to meet any specific BOP. It was awesome fun to drive and cheap to run and I'd dearly love to get in either another one - or else something similar in concept in the future. Although running with the GT guys was pretty daunting with the speed differences - but given it's also a good Winton / Wakefield 300 car it'd be great to get one just for some fun in those events.
  17. Reviving a dead thread since I'm back in the game. I sadly quit the R35 racing project back in 2013 because the budget couldn't handle such an expensive mistress. I blew the engine the next time out after my first race weekend and I just lost heart. Part of me also needed a change from the GT-R scene after 10+ years and a new challenge. The first new challenge was to try my hand at Radicals. That was a mistake as I just couldn't drive them. I couldn't physically handle the G Forces at play for more than a lap or 2. By the end I hated being in the car so I moved on. I then jumped into a Ginetta which was a cool little bus only to sadly have it taken from me by an out of control Ferrari at Bathurst - which was my first race in it. I really liked that little car - and racing at Bathurst was a bucket list item. It was the whole reason I gave up Tarmac rallies was to get to race at Bathurst. And I must say before the indecent it was such an awesome experience. In many ways it was even more intense than Targa was - especially in the pouring rain. But I was a bit flat after the crash for a few months and figured I'd get out of the game - until I got a call asking if I was keen to do the new Bathurst 6hr at Easter next year in an EVO X RS. It was a great offer and one I've jumped at. It's given me a new lease of life in the sport. I'm not overly keen to find a budget to run a full championship anywhere - but I will look at doing a few of the "fun" events that are kicking around. Scotsman (Chris from Racepace) and I just signed up to do the Winton 300, and we have also both signed up to do the next Sports GT round at Phillip Island in November as well. Fingers crossed we can also look at the Wakefield 300 early next year as well. There seems to be more of these fun type of events that let people bring a range of cars and at achievable budgets so was seeing if anyone else out there was doing anything these days?
  18. The most impressive part of that video is Adam is driving around in a t-shirt. When do you ever get to drive around on the track in a t-shirt in this country!!?
  19. Yep ok - my experience was with the C5's (C50). Great tyre for racing but as I suggested not for sprints. Harry's info confirms my thoughts.
  20. But I will also say the tyres I used had already done a 4hr race at QR and then I did a bit over 50 laps of Winton (just over 150km's) and they were still in pretty damn good condition so they certainly seem to wear well.
  21. No I don't have A050 data with this car. That was the first (and only) time I have driven it to date. But I doubt the Hankook softs are like the A050 Mediums. The softs seem pretty special judging by what we've seen at WTAC. I just checked and I was running the Hankook Mediums. As you say it may come down to tyre temps/pressures. We were aiming for 34 hot but that was after 10 laps, not 3. Maybe higher starting pressures would yield better results for early laps - I'm not 100% sure TBH. I just know I struggled to get them to "turn on" in the early laps each time out.
  22. I ran on the Hankooks Z221's for the first time recently in my new bus as they are the control tyre for AMCamps. These weren't the softs that the WTAC guys run. They were the normal compound. One interesting thing I found with them was they really took 3-4 laps to get up to temp and for the times to stabilize. They were a mega tyre for a race though as I was doing 10-12 lap sessions and from lap 4 on wards they were better - but not sure they would be the ideal option if you were only doing 3 lap sprints. As lap 1 was a good +2s slower than lap 4. As an example here was one of the sessions I did at Winton. You can see the fastest lap was lap 7 and then it was pretty consistent after that. 1. 1:37.6933 2. 1:36.9572 3. 1:36.4395 4. 1:35.6922 5. 1:35.5647 6. 1:35.2582 7. 1:34.7901 8. 1:35.1124 9. 1:35.4962 10. 1:35.2636 11. 1:35.1733 My experience with A050's however is their best lap is lap 1.
  23. Cheaper than an R300! lol
  24. I tell you for the cost of entry ($1200) and the amount of track time you get I don't know of any other category that gets full live TV coverage for the price. Chris (Scotsman) has also entered in his R33 GT-R. I'm looking forwards to it even though I know my thing will be totally uncompetitive in that field.
  25. Slightly OT - are you doing Sport GT @ Phillip Island again Ben? I entered it this week.
