  1. Hmmm... mine's only a 5 speed auto. The 7 speed must have come later. My 3.7L V36 is a Dec 2007 build. But yes, I'd say it would cancel each other out (efficiency gain vs weight gain).
  2. Sorry if the question has been asked, have only read 4/6 pages. Does anyone know if a similar setup would work for a V36?
  3. Yeah, I suppose I should mention I'm a 33 year old driver with zero demerit points (i.e. I drive spirited every now and then, but mainly sensible driving - I drive to/from work too). Thanks Alkatraz, that's interesting info. Maybe I'll try a tank of the BP Ultimate to see if it's any different. Having spent some time in Perth though (a beautiful city I may add), I'm not sure if you guys know the meaning of traffic (I'm from Melbourne). If you could crack 700km on the 'Range to empty' please do let me know as that would be awesome! The highest I achieved was 643km (took a photo of it on my iPhone). I just realised I made a mistake in my calculations above. My 643km max reading was after a hour of driving at 110kph, after which stage I had probably used 10 or so litres of fuel. (i.e. if I had have pulled over at that stage and put another 10 litres in it it would probably boosted the readout to over 700). So really it should be 643km / 60L = 9.3L per 100kms Highway (or thereabouts). That's what I get for being lazy and relying on the cars readout, many variables really. I should really fill the car, reset the trip, drive for 500-600kms, fill up again and take note of the litres then use than figure and KMs on the trip for a true reading.
  4. Oh, I forgot to mention - mine is a 370GT (i.e. 3.7L). I would imagine the 350GT (3.5L) have slightly better economy. Thanks for your input guys, looks like I'm getting average economy. Thought I had a problem. Damn, miss my 2.5L turbo... Economy + Power. Does anyone know if a fuel computer would make a worthwhile difference?
  5. Yeah, for sure, it's a sports car - uses fuel. However - do we realise that our V36's are not that far off as a 2007 6.0L HSV Grange with over 300kw on 95 RON? http://redbook.com.au/used-cars/details.aspx?R=71607 - Combined 15.2L / 100km. Not sure how they come up with the combined figure - is it the average of hwy 10.8 and city 17.3 = (14.1L / 100km for my V36). How can that be? (I'd imagine those manufacturer stated fuel economies hard to replicate).
  6. Just a question on your fuel economy to all your V36 owners out there. I've got an Auto 2007 V36 SP. I always fill it with Shell V-Power (98 RON) - as in every single tank. The absolute best/highest 'range to empty' figure I have every achieved on this car is 643km. This was achieved by driving out to the country on a highway. So given it's a 70L-ish 'usable' tank (do I have this right?), that's 10.8L/100kms. Now, as mentioned before this is my 'best ever'. Driving in and around the city (which is what I usually do, I live 2kms from the CBD), it reports a range to empty of around 385kms - 420kms (at worse, after filling it up) which is around 16.6 to 18.0L/100kms. Pretty woeful esp on 98 RON! My turbo R34 with the same amount of power after a few mods did better than this. What are you guys getting? Does anyone run their cars on 95 or 91?
  7. Great post! Thanks OP, very good detail and pics. I wonder if the V36 path would be the same?
  8. Hey - all questions answered in my main thread on this.
  9. I've been using the system for about 2 weeks and here are some thoughts. I have an iPhone 3GS. Overall it's not a bad compromise. Not perfect, but pretty good for the $. Pros: Nice iPhone touchscreen, more responsive than GPS unit Tom Tom iPhone app is comparable to the high end Tom Toms - much nicer than my $200 Tom Tom (i.e. Google search within app). Charges iPhone (so I swapped out my cig charger cable) Can also use other iPhone apps on screen for a bit of e-wang, i.e. 'Hey my car has Facebook/Google/YouTube'. Some future apps will be useful too - dyno apps for example, Trapster. GPS reception on app is good (Optus network), comparable to regular GPS (maybe slightly worse). Was a fear of mine. Telstra may be even better. Works indoors and usually gets GPS fix quicker than Tom Tom (can get fix in my garage - unlike my Tom Tom which if I haven't plugged it in can take 1 min to get a fix). Cheap to test out ($45 for the cable). Don't have to keep your GPS in the car (theft issues). Neutral: Had to Jailbreak phone. Cannot use V36 Musicbox while AUX is source, although you can play your iPod music whilst the Tom Tom app is running (and it will turn the volume down when it's talking to you). Must make sure iPhone is 'flips' into landscape mode when in use, but it kinda sits neatly in my cup holder area with the thick AV cable holding it up. AV display is not crystal clear like the V36 menus, but still OK. Cons: White cable hanging out, long cables bundle in centre console. Suppose you could wire in. iPhone touchscreen is harder to access to change route on the go compared to a regular GPS (although you are legally not allowed to use a GPS unless you're pulled over anyway as is my understanding). It is easier to use a regular mounted GPS and you sometimes go to use the touchscreen on the V36 and then go 'damn'. You've got a phone and cables all plugged in, not a fully integrated solution. All details on how to set this up can be found on the Youtube comments. In short you need to Jailbreak your phone to run DisplayOut, the Tom Tom app (or other nav app) and you should pick yourself up a genuine Apple AV cable (JB gave me the discount price of $45). I would not bother with a 3rd party cable from DX, etc, they are known to become invalidated with iOS updates as there is a ID chip in the genuine product.
  10. I did a similar thing with my iPhone running the Tom Tom app. It works pretty well, and I sit the iPhone in my cup holder and use it's touchscreen to control it. It charges the iPhone too which is nice (I'd imagine most other people would have a cig charger for their iPhone anyway so this can replace that). I think it's a little nicer than having to control the GPS through this thing - https://buy.garmin.com/shop/shop.do?pID=1468, plus I can play music via my iPhone's iPod (and Google Voice search, Facebook, YouTube, Safari, Dyno apps, videos, Cheap Eats app, Urban Spoon, etc). Not a perfect solution but pretty nice compromise. For eg, when using the AUX you cannot listen to your V36's Music Jukebox and the picture isn't as crystal clear as the car's regular screen.
  11. BTW got this working. Not a bad solution. The Tom Tom app chews the battery though (even though it's charging!).
  12. More info for people... I sent: I got back: Am I right in that I will also need two adaptors for my V36 Nissan with this guys plugs?
  13. Let me know how fuel economy goes. My V36 sucks!!! 350-400km to a tank city driving. 600km absolute best highway driving.
  14. Yeah same, from memory. Nowhere close to Just Car's price. I'm 33. Just Cars do me for $1300. Shannons would do me back when I was a rating 1. They wanted like $2.8k, double Just Cars price. My R34 did have an attempted theft which I think impacted the claim. To be fair I must say I've had great service from Just Cars. I used to think they were the McDodge company high risk people are forced to go with, but every dealing I've had with them has been excellent. They've been great every dealing with them, a human answers the phone, and the 20-somethings on the phone are always knowledgeable, courteous and helpful.
  15. G'day Chris it's David - I bumped into you and your fine machine in Belgrave the other night.

    See you round the forums.

  16. Looks fantastic. Congrats. Plenty of room under the bonnet for a supercharger kit from the US now...
  17. Yeah, agreed. Notice how they never come with log books either. Pretty strange for such new cars from a country where everybody crosses their T's and dots their I's.
  18. You don't have to enter your phone number. Just get the 'MY-CAR' thing up again and then put your phone in discovery/search mode and it should find 'MY-CAR'.
  19. Anyone had any luck getting a band expander to work in a V35 or V36? Maybe AUX with an FM tuner is the way to go? Hell... I just remembered I had my little iRiver unit I never use... sweet
  20. Thanks - I'll give the Malvern store a call (I live inner city). I do go out to Dandey every now and then but couldnt' leave the car there for a day. Anyone use Hektik in Brunswick? I heard they're alright and they are close.
  21. Here is a demo on a G37 with CoPilot live. Why does he say you have to Jailbreak and use displayout? Is that just to add more video out options? Edit: Ahhh, I'm guessing that the AV cable will only output videos etc, not the entire UI (and therefore not the Tom Tom app probably). Damn, don't want to have to Jailbreak my phone.
  22. Hey guys, Still searching for a good Nav substitute for my V36. Currently I have a low end Tom Tom, and just learned that I could get a higher end GPS that has AV and have it playing through the screen. Then I thought why not have the Tom Tom iPhone app and have it run through the screen via an AV cable?! I know when the app first came out it was crappy getting a good/accurate fix, although it appears to have moved on a lot since then. Here is a review for 1.3 - http://www.trustedreviews.com/TomTom-for-iPhone-1-3-Live_Mobile-App_video_review, and now it's up to 1.7. Still not a cheap option, the iPhone app is $90 AUD (I don't want to Jailbreak), the genuine AV able is $40-45 too (I've never seen a cheapie one on DealExtreme etc work long term), but this to me sounds like a great option! Plus I'd have iPhone music and obviously I take the phone with me when I leave the car so reduce risk of theft. Has anyone done this? Does the iPhone screen come up nice and clear? Does it scale well? Does it work in Horizontal mode? David.
  23. Hey guys. Has anyone had this done in Melbourne? I'd rather go to a place who has taken apart a V36 - don't want anyone screwing up my Bose stereo or having a squeeky dash when it's put back together! Any info on prices would be good too.
  24. It's already been discussed, but yeah... I paid $57k OTR for a Black + SP + Sunroof + 10,000kms + 5A + Infiniti badging/all options importing direct 13 months ago. Compliance was $3.3k, yen was a bit lower, tyres $1.5k. My understanding is Wogboy has the only similar V36 in the country with those features (certainly at the time) with one coming up for sale on average once every 3-6 months (I waited 6+ months - competition was fierce and I paid just under my max). It sold at auction for 3.303 FOB (and it was a Dec 2007 model!). Black with sunroof, it's a killer. If I had have went any other colour and no Sunroof it would have been $10k less. But yeah, the Sunroof is TOTALLY KICKASS, as is black and the heated seats are magic in Melbourne's shitty winter. Obviously paid too much for it but f**k it, I love the car. Hey Wogboy can you tell me more about your Garmin setup? Am I right in saying you have a GPS with AV out, run it through the TV, and use the touchscreen on the Garmin Unit itself (which you have in the centre console or something?). That sounds like a nice setup, I never even knew GPS's had AV out... I just have a cheapie Tom Tom (sick of them getting stolen... rather get a $99 cheapie and not have to worry so much). I was about to get a USB cable hard wired in too in the lower right of my windscreen this week.
  25. Yeah same here. Tried it again and no good. I can select Bluetooth as Source, and can see all the play/stop buttons etc on the menu, but it has some kind of Message Box saying 'Bluetooth <Japanese>'. I wonder if there is a setting in the Bluetooth menu. I have an iPhone 3GS and it is paired and working to dial numbers.
