Ugly Ass Noise On Cold Startup
3LGODZILA replied to joeyjoejoejuniorshabadoo's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
would it hurt to put some 5w-30 or 5w-40 in there on the next service? i know it sounds unlikely as lots of users on here with the same engine use that oil and don't have any problems. but remember no 2 engines are identical. my daily has worn rings, so i listened to my mechanic and put some slightly thicker oil in it, it would always make weird noises on cold start ups for a few seconds, so i changed to oil to 1 with a lighter cold weight and she doesnt make any noises no more. at least it would rule that out. -a bit off topic this is regarding engine oils - http://www.6crew.com/forum/showthread.php?...highlight=motor quoted from that site --> "People think in terms of the oil thinning when it gets hot, they think this thinning with heat is the problem with motor oil. It is more correct to think that oil thickens when it cools and THIS is the problem" -this may be the problem as a few people said they've just started hearing noises in winter -
bigger turbo = more power and of cause the supporting mods to go with it

How Much Heat Wrap To Wrap An Exaust Manifold
3LGODZILA replied to s13_Skyline_inside's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
i was considering wrapping my manifold, turbo & dump pipe, i spoke to 2 owners of 2 different exhaust workshops & they both warned me of cracking. and one of them told me it would be a waste of time anyways, that i would notice no differnce in power, i was expecting higher velocity exhaust flow to quicken spool (probably fark all) , & cooler engine bay/intake temps. but this is on a stock rb25det besides full 3inch exhaust & upped boost, he told me the stock heatshield should keep the temps down enough. -would it hurt to wrap my mild steel front/dump pipe ? -and also if i did, it would make my EGT higher wouldnt it? and this would only cause bad effects on my ceramic turbine? -
Are Ceramic Turbine Wheels Really That Bad?
3LGODZILA replied to VB-'s topic in Engines & Forced Induction
ancient topic i know, but id like to know the answer of this question. ^ and also another thing i dont understand is what the differnce is between a gtr turbo(s) letting go and a gts-t turbo letting go. ive read when gtr turbos let go they take the engine with them, but with gtst's the ceramic just goes through the exhaust. or have i read wrong and they can both take the engines with them or luckily go through the exhaust? -
Heatshield On Decat Pipe
3LGODZILA replied to 3LGODZILA's topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
yeh i bashed out my 1st cat, took 1 hour with a stainless steel rod, hammer, and a drill with a big ass drill bit. f**k me alot of honeycomb shit came out, although it did make a noticeable difference, i was expecting a bigger power increase considering the amount of shit inside the cat. but it gave the car a more 'throaty' idle and you can also hear the turbo spool up louder, and also few hundred rpm quicker -
hey all, as title says im wondering if any1 knows what the inside diameter is on the standard crossover pipe on an rb25, i wanna get a fmic and want it to match, or even replace it. also, anyone know at how much boost/power the crossover pipe becomes a restriction ?

was looking on ebay for gearknobs, and i came across this nismo gearknob & clear indicator package which looks like its for an r33 gts-t, its probaby not genuine nismo but has anyone bought it? is it good quality? the main thing im concerned about is the knob, ive had a few cheap ones on previous cars and they dont sit tight, so i want one like the OEM one that screws on real tight and wont move. heres a pic and heres the link - http://cgi.ebay.com.au/NISMO-SKYLINE-R33-S...p3286.m20.l1116

wheelweights.net - obviously i wouldnt quote these specs 100% but id assume they're pretty accurate afaik being forged is to do with the strength/how its made, not the weight of the rim. if i had a track bitch then yeah id probably only buy a forged rim, but my car is only street driven so i just want something lightweight to help acceleration & handling and also looks nice pm me if sale falls through

Heatshield On Decat Pipe
3LGODZILA replied to 3LGODZILA's topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
haha, im already running a 'straight through' 2.5inch compliance cat, i only get a bang every now and then but i love it! the rest of the system is 3inch so i may aswell match it up. the de-cat i made is just straight 3inch pipe. but yeah your cat must be different to mine, ive got 3 compliance cats at home, 2 of them are the same and have 4 nuts welded so a heatshield must of been bolted to it? i dont know but coz i received them like this. and on the cat that came with the car it has half a heatehield welded to the body of the cat (like in the pic above) so i dunno ay i might have to find 2 half heatshields and weld them around the de-cat -

next mod is wheels -
i just made up a de-cat pipe today, just wondering if anyones welded a heatshield or something similar to disguise it as a normal cat. and does any1 know where i can get a heatshield from that i could just weld on myself? i got the idea from looking at this pic, this is a proper cat but it looks like the heatshield is just tacked over the top.

^^ yeah haha, your racing hearts look real nice, the only thing that put me off was when i looked on wheelweights they seemed to be about 2kg heavier each corner then te37s, r34 gtr wheels, ce28s, re30's ect. so im looking for something within that category now.

which workshop can i talk to about nistune boards? or someone here may be able to answer a few questions. ive got an rb25, if ive read correctly ill need a 300zx ECU to keep the vvt or cam advance wateva its called. should i buy this seperatly then go to the workshop or how should i go about purchasing? will i lose my tune if i disconnect battery or unplug the ECU? can it be done to an rb25 including dyno/street tuning for under $1000 ?

wow, i drive past that corner everyday to get home from work, was wondering what all that mess was on the curb. the local shittalker at work said he saw the whole thing... apparently it was a black mr2, least i know not to believe his shit anymore hahaha

i thought everyone who owned a skyline would be eating 2 minute noodles everyday, i know i am, thats all i can afford :laughing-smiley-014:

i rcn theres more of a chance to get stickered when your driving home late at night with not much other cars around then in a cruise, you gotta be pretty unlucky to be the one to get pulled over out of all the cars on the cruise, just dont be a hero

Best Looking Wheels On An R33 Gtst
3LGODZILA replied to Nick033's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
what do you guys recon of these rims? im in the same boat i need sum nice light jap rims that look good for my silver r33 series 2, ive looked through so many pics of silver gtst's and this is the only one thats stuck out, just wanna second opinion from the fellow skyliners -
i was quoted around 500 for an autowatch installed, but i just bought a cyclops with all the same features for under $150 and installed it myself. i got a turbo timer chip with mine too so i can run an aftermarket turbo timer, coz the built in ones would suck, if a cop pulls you over u cant switch your car off, and u cant adjust how long u wanna idle it for.
