  1. a filter strap is the tool you use to loosen the oil filter. because they are usually too tight to undo by hand. if you are lucky you will get it by hand. also when you fit the new filter, smear some engine oil onto the rubber o ring on the filter then spin it on.. i only have to remove my breather hose on the rocker covers and flip it over to get my plugs out. (rb20det though)
  2. even though. steel wheels still go bang. i would stil unbolt the cat and check for bit's. it's a cheap check.
  3. what ecu are you using?? the other day my car rb20det with a microtech was running fine, turned it off for fueling started it up and it ran on 4 cylinders. limped home shut it off then started againg and it ran fine... check your injector loom for rubbed through wires. maybe when you unplug it, it moves the wires then they touch and earth out again?? another thing you can try is swap #1 injector with # 2 injector and see if the problem swaps to #2 cylinder. you can also do this with coils to find faulty coils.
  4. and when your doing it check all your coolant hoses, belts, boost hoses etc so you catch any problems developing before they become problems. have fun.. also dont get under your car if it is only on a trolley jack. put it on stands so it cant fall on you..
  5. just make sure you have a filter strap and the correct oil filter before you drain the oil. if it's your only car, you dont want to run new oil with the old filter because you couldn't get it off or it was wrong.. and hand tighten your oil filter means AS TIGHT as you can get it by hand.. no strap.
  6. ^^^ second that. check for a blown turbine (exhaust) wheel.
  7. heaps of tuning problems. and ignition problems. bresciani racing tuned my microtech and done an absolute c unt of a job. now i have lost faith in the workshops as they charge you an arm AND a leg, then do a shotty job anyway.. so i'm sorting through the problems myself. If you want something done right do it yourself hey.
  8. depends on your boost levels. you should get 10,000 although i only got 500km out of my last set. i have bigger problems though.. I'm looking at getting a set of brisk plugs. www.brisksparkplugs.com.au
  9. maybe the head was ported too big and has cracked through to an oil passage???
  10. reset the ecu. cant hurt..
  11. some people say you get better power from the copper plugs also. they really aren't hard to change.. just dont over tighten them. i would try changing the igniter box before changing coils if the plugs dont fix your problem..
  12. if the wastegate is jammed fully open it should stil get some boost and should still rev up just will be alot slower.
  13. pull the sump off, turn it upside down. you should be able to roll a new set of main bearings and thrusts into it without taking the crank out. put a set of big end bearings in it while you are going.
  14. I had an exhaust place make me a 3" mandrel system with two magnaflow straight thru mufflers. standard cat then i had it ceramic coated. really quiet. I flew past a mate on the way home from work the other day. He said all he could hear was turbo whistle... I have aftermarket manifold standard turbo and aftermarket dump pipe. I had the mufflers fitted with bolt flanges so i can just pull them out and fit straight pipe easy.
  15. what ever mate. EXCESS fuel is black smoke. UNBURNT fuel from not unuf compression or no spark is white smoke. water smoke is steam not smoke.
  16. definently comp test it. white smoke is unburnt fuel and blue is oil smoke. almost sounds like a hole in a piston..
  17. gday mate, If you have excessive crank end float the thrust bearings on the crank will be worn. all engines have crank end float but 4mm is probably a bit much. 1 mm would be about correct.
