I would be careful about modifying/replace the wastegate to hold boost for longer without a FMIC or someway of monitoring knock/detonation. LW.

A/F ratios would be interesting too.... LW.

Auto to Manual Conversions - Good, bad or ugly ??

Aren't the diff ratios slightly different too? LW. -
Interesting thread, and nice to see some of the opinions of people I have come to respect on SAU reflect my own thoughts. I think some people are getting a little hung up on the term "rice": Gojira was asking its its the "new rice", not whether it is rice. If it offends you, ignore rice and insert something like 'form of showing off'. Anyyyyyway, back to the actual topic, the people run about with dyno sheets always amuse me. There is nothing wrong with getting a car on a dyno to tune it, but just chasing dyno figures is as boring to me as people adding stupidly huge wings, etc, etc. I'm also not that impressed by 1/4 mile times either: they are a useful for determining how fast your car (taking in to acccount the abilities of the driver) is down a small stretch of dead straight road. Still doesn't say much about how the car goes around corners, or even how streetable or useable the car is. For me, it is all about reaching a nice balance where the car is working as one and increasing response. I remember the first time I went for a ride in a R32 GT-R: I was mightly impressed and honestly I am not sure why anyone would want much more on the public roads anyway. How fast do you want to hit 110Km/h anyway? LW.

jake32: ouch, that's a faily hideous example there. I have always said that budgeting $25k is appropriate. Even if the car lands here for a bit less, you still need some slack for things like clutches, brake pads, oil changes, other consumables, and that's assuming that everything is mechanically A-OK. LW. -
In an attempt to recover this thread: the good news with all these people get huge wheels is that the car manufacturers are starting to offer 18"+ wheels from the factory. Hopefully this will help to bring down the cost of 18" tyres... LW.

First you ask how much one costs, showing you have no clue, then state categorically that its "alot more". Mind pointing me to the extensive comparisons you have run? Or even any comparison where equal dollars have been spent on a WRX and a R33 GT-R? And a traffic light race is always such a good indicator of performance. Just like week my mother "smoked" a Ferrari off the line at the lights in our diesel Citroen. Our car must be so much faster. Others have addressed this. There is no proof that Subie plans to do this. Plus, spend the difference between a brand new 05 WRX and a R32 GT-R on modifications on the GT-R and we will see who smokes who. If you want to make a point, try and bas it in reality, otherwise go and congregate with fellow fanboys on a Subaru forum so you can talk about how you smoked this or that last night. LW.

Sounds like heresay to me. Plenty of people with RB26DETTs running more that 300kw (at the wheels) without issue: you just *must* make sure that all the ancillary systems are in place to support that kind of power and all necessary modification have been made. If your really concerned, source an N1 block which has thicker walls and different oil galleries designed to protect the block from cracking. LW.

R32 GTS4-t? Not hugely powerful, dulled a little by 4WD over GTS-t, but a nice stable platform with (der) 4WD (and its the good stuff from the GT-R, not a cheap version). Easy to drop a new engine into it when you want more powah. I'd stay away from the Silvia's personally: lot of power in a light car = too many ploughed into things.

Jake gave a very good description of why. Supply is short, good quality 89 GT-Rs are getting harder and harder to find, and it may be the case that 90+ cars will be forced through SEVS which will cost *at least* an additional $3-4k and maybe more (as you can only bring in good stock examples, so they will become even more sought after). Plus they are close to a collectors item/classic I think.... LW. -

aybee: bone stock is actually more expensive generally (unless we are talking serious modification)... But yes, $25k should get you something good. LW. -
Merli: that's what I was thinking, but I was just wondering if anyone could actually confirm (perhaps someone from the first group buy who bought one)? LW.

mcmn: I think its the hassle and uncertainty, and perhaps a dash of ignorance, that keeps local prices high, at least at the dealerships. Plus so many of those dealers (at least here in Sydney) are so slimey and dodgey. LW. -
Not really.. I tend to think that the RB2x is an integral part of what makes a Skyline a Skyline, in the same way that an RX7 would not be the same without its rotary engine. The engine is (an important) factor in defining the cars character. Hence sticking a thumping V8 fills me with mixed emotions. Good for him for doing something different, but IMHO its the same as dropping a V8 into anything and not really a "skyline" anymore. LW.

Personally I couldn't care less if its faster -- BMI did a comparison where even the R34 GT-Rs were close to being beaten by the latest Evo/WRX Spec-C -- it looks like a $20k econobox on the inside and there is so much room for additional power out of a Skyline. Try that in a WRX without blowing your gearbox. Anyway, obviously a troll LW.

I like hip-hop about gats and bitches More seriously, pretty much anything 2Pac (sad, I know) is one my playlist constantly. LW.

Its actually not that uncommon. Same goes for flywheels when they let go. Edit: To clarrify, its not uncommon when a g/box decides to die that cogs start sheering bits off. However (and luckily) they don't let go that often like that. LW.

Gonad Man: It was said tongue-in-cheek, but don't under-estimate the important of reducing unsprung weight which has a much bigger impact than sprung weight. LW.

R34 GTR - anyone got their TV working ?
lwells replied to jezzrrr's topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
Just to hi-jack for a minute, does anyone have a wiring diagram or pinout guide for the cable that runs between the main cucuit board and the LCD screen? Just wondering if I can replace the screen with another one (but different brand/model)... LW. -
The nice people at Rays (and Enkei, et al) have solved this problem by producing forged monoblocks. No you can not only bling your car with some nice phat wheels, but they slash unsprung weight while increase your contact patch LW.

I would look at one of FMIC they sell for late model Civics -- they seem to be extremely thin and long, and might just fit behind that front bar. funky: why not go for something more classic, like a 260 or even a 240? Come to think of it, what do those go for in Jay-phan? LW.
