  1. I found This for the NSW Police Act
  2. Guys another tip is use WOOD not bricks. Get some 4x4 or 4x2 wood pieces and chop them into 1ft long blocks. You will need about 4 per side. Bricks tend to break if the car lands on them hard and also tends to scratch the underside of the lower control arms. Also KFC is around the corner (walking distance) so food may not be a problem.
  3. GREAT night people. It was good to have such a good turnout for the last dinner of the year. To all that piked out or could not make it, you missed a top night with great people and unreal food. Happy Christmas
  4. As long as they stay the f..k away from the norther beaches its all good. I guess having tolls and no trains can be a good thing. The scariest thing about picking a fight with Lebs is they do not know when to stop. They have been throwing sand and grenades at eachother for 1000's of years and will do so for many more to come. I really hope this does not explode in total anarchy as the problem with the Police is they have taken a softly softly approach to these minorities for many years, so they feel untouchable. It is not just Lebs causing the problems, it takes 2 to tango
  5. Guys, Should we get final numbers and call the TO to make sure they have enough seats for renta crowd ? I also have a BIG suprise, but it will have to wait until Thursday, I will bring the brochure.
  6. I will be there I do not care when it is, but if it is the Thai Orchid, I will crawl over broken glass for their food.
  7. I cannot believe the missinformation being stated here about radar detectors. Yes they are illegal, but ONLY if they are found. The police can search your car, but only for a resonable amount of time and cannot dismantle anything. If you have a consealed detector that is not visable, they will not be able to do anything unless you admit to having it. Detector Detectors CANNOT pick up a switched off unit, no matter how close they are. RDD's false alarm all the time, so cops only use them on the highways. They can detect and active unit from about 400m, but cannot know the direction or car its in unless you are the only one around. Never give cops permission to search your car no matter what, they do have a right to search under the probable cause law, but they must give you a valid reason as to why they are searching. They can also search you thanks to the new consealed weapons law. LIDAR (Laser) jammers are the best investment you can get aside from the normal consealed radar detector. The Blinder M-20 or the Lidatek LE30 are the current units of choice. There are some newer units abouts to hit the market, but the above 2 have been proven. As others have mentioned the best way to avoid speeding tickets is not to speed, but if you choose to use technology, know your rights. If you have a video in your mobile, I suggest you start recording as soon as you get pulled over. Cops tend to lie to justify their actions.
  8. Detectors are illegal in all states except W.A. In NSW it is only illegal if they find it or you give it to them, but they cannot remove anything from your car, and not detain you on suspision. If you have a good install, they will never find it. In relation to the jammer, LIDAR (laser) jammers are the only devices that can effectivly jam police speed measuring devices. Radar is not easy to jam. If you want LIDAR protection I would suggest the Blinder x20 or the Lidatek as they are both VERY effective at jamming LIDAR as we have older models of guns that are easy to jam. Use at your own risk as I believe the fine for jamming the cops is around $10,000...if caught
  9. I am sorry too hear about your dog, it is a sad day when a beloved pet is killed. Assuming that the dog was killed by speeding is a broad assumption, you also need to take some responsibility as you should have your dogs contained in your yard and not roaming the streets where they can be hit.
  10. Thanks guys Great night as usual. Duncan, I am glad you did not puke in my car on the way to your place, I thought you might enjoy the G's of the BIG 6 turbo, but you were in no condition for that type of driving. Great night.
  11. So whos coming ? Should we book ?
  12. Sorry Andrew, I did not mean to be a slanging match, I also did not want to offend you. Remember we are IBM partners and have daily dealings with IBM, and as with any large company you have a broad range of employees of which I seen some of the bad ones. I believe that IBM is one of the best IT companies int he world, this is why we only buy their servers, but I have had some "experts" that say they are certified and they know SFA about the gear they are working on. Also IBM is a big company that like Telstra cop a lot of crap from us little guys that get a fair bit of unfair play from them. I have had IBM try to steal clients from me due to big deals I was working on, so I do have a love/hate relationship with them. I also did not say that IBM had sub par employment practices, I just said that they will look at qualifications over experience as it is "proof" that the person knows what they are on about, there is nothing wrong with this type of employment practice. I think you need too read the post in the context it was made, as I know you well enough to know you are a very experienced IT guy and I have given you crap about IBM to your face in a joking way and we laughed about it. Sorry if I ofended you. Mal
  13. I have recently advertised for a 2nd level server administrator and had 150+ applicants. Most had MCSE and CCNA qualifications and some had Degrees in IT and computer science. This is all for a job paying $40k per year. The biggest problem in the industry is the lack of respect that these certifications have. Since the training places offer "cram" courses to pass the exam, we have found that MCSE and CCNA's do not know even the basics. They can "quote" technical stuff, but they cannot back up the knowladge if I dig a bit deeper. If I was you I would see if you can get specific training on some type of IP Telephony product and become a specialist in a certain piece of IP technology as the entry level qualifications are a dime a dozen. I have 15 years in LAN/WAN networking and have had my own IT Service comapny for 12 years, so I guess I have seen a shift from paper qualifications to people that have real world experience in using the products. You find that any mainstream cources offer very little as far as getting a job, unless you want to work for the government....or IBM (sorry couldn't help it Andrew:-)
  14. There are 2 types of write offs. Repairable and non repairable. The non repairable are registered with the RTA and cannot ever be reregistered in Oz, but the repairable ones are written off due to $'s not damage and do not require anything more than a blueslip when they are registered
  15. Let them write it off and then buy it back and fix it with change to spare. I think JC will let you buy the wreck as a repairable write off and then you can do what you want. I also think the figures you have quoted for resprays and motors is a bit lowball. To buy the motor might be $2k for a second hand unit, but insurance companies must use new or reconditioned parts and reputable repaires. A $1500 respray is a backyarders price with no prep work. I think most insurance companies work on the 60% insured damage and its a write off. Speak to JC and see if they will sell the wreck.
  16. Im in then
  17. Im in if it is NOT in the city. My vote is for the Thai place as it is cheap, great food and they have a super chiller next door. If you want Jap then there is the best little jap place on the other side of artarmon station. Jas the only problem with the gong is it is a school night and adding 3hrs of driving will make it a late night.
  18. Agreed that it will only work for camera offences, but I can tell you IT DOES WORK in NSW. I have a fleet of company cars, and when you get the fine in the mail you give 8them a BS name and address overseas. The RTA will send a letter to "no one" and then it will go tot he Office Of State Revenue for debit collection. As the OSR has no investigative powers, all hey can do it threaten to cancel visa's / licenses' etc for this invisable person, but they can do nothing to the company. This is because under the law the company has named he driver and that is all they need to do. I can tell you that failing o nominate smone is a bad thing, but telling them a BS name is "technically" lieing on a stat dec, but that is a lot harder to prove. The revenue cameras can kiss my butt
  19. I will not be going to this one. I do not like mussels and also driving into the city for dinner. Sorry guys, bring back northside dinners.
  20. In NSW NONE of the cop cars have ECU Mods. I was told that they do remove the 230km/h speed limiter on the XR6T/XR8 HP cars It is also not hard to outrun a cop car, but they have the luxury of numbers, they can radio ahead to get you.
  21. In NSW: All the commodores have FE2 suspension that have uprated springs and shocks. The motors are STOCK and they all run on 91RON ULP. The Highway patrol cars are SS, the GD's are Executives. They have slight "police only" mods such as interior lighting and the gate on the Auto gearbox are different. The Falcons are XT's for the GD's and the HP cars are either XR8's or XR6Turbos. The Turbos have the XR8 front springs. Similar mods to the crumpledores as far as the interior. The do weigh a HEAP more. With the light bars, radios, riot gear and safety gear I would think they would be close to 2 ton.
  22. $1065 from memory, but that was 10 years ago
  23. I was planning to come with the wife and baby. Mongo BBQ  Is it on ?
  24. I sent my car from Sydney to Perth by train in 1995 and it was a nightmare. Firstly some a$$wipe drove the car 85km and thrashed the guts out of it as it had used over a 1/4 tank of fuel and 1lt of oil. I had the car carrier company charged with auto theft and threatened to sue them. They paid over $5k damages as the whole exhaust and chassis rail had deep gouges (car was lowered). The clutch and fanbelts were rooted, but the car was never the same after it was repaired. I felt violated, but I got justice. I had used a car carrier from door to door, but it was handled by 3 different companies under contract. If you are in control of the car, I would think it will be fine, but just make sure you keep the keys. I have heard that a few thefts from the cars does happen, so do not pack the car with valuables. I ended up sending the car back via TNT road and had no issues, except it needed a good wash.
  25. As you are buying privatly, if the car is rebirthed or stolen and the cops find it, you WILL loose your car. I have heard stories of people who did all the right things when buying a car (REVS/STOLEN check) and the car looked clean. Problem was the cars were rebirthed an the cars were taken by the police and returned to their rightful owners. I would walk away from it and count yourself lucky you did not blow your money.
