  1. Ok, can you care to explain how does a FIAT Panda impresses 'chicks'? (that's a 'cool' car) There are alot of cars that impress chicks they deemed to be uncool. They will say a ferrari or lamborghini convertible is uncool becuase it is driven by old balding gits...but I have relos with Ferrari's and they DO actually impress the opposite sex! suprise suprise!. I went for a drive along a few years back, we were in a 348, there were 2 F355's and a Diablo Vt 6.0...and 2 of the fellows 'picked up' 2 very good sorts in city traffic!...and no, they weren't pros! My cousin explained this is quite normal. Furthermore I picked up, JC CONTRADICTED himself re GTR's drive feel. that's a fail on his behalf. When he drove it properly he said it was any but the Play Station car he expected..and this was ONE of his mains reasons to deem it uncool!, the other was ..becuase it was a 'Nissan'. Since when has the badge stopped a car from being cool or uncool?..once again FIAT Panda Personally I doubt there are enough GT-R's on UK roads to get a real public reaction reaction... ...but let me tell you, I was at Nissan HQ on business yesterday and they had the red GT-R in the front car park (the car displayed at Sydney Motor show i think). Out in the open it looked HUGELY impressive, very sexy, in fact I reckon both men and women will be walking into lamp posts when it arrives in Aus. If I'm not mistaken this very thing occured on Australian Top gear when "yeah mate" Steve Pizzati drove it thru sydney. that was a grey/silver car. The red car I saw yesterday looked far sexier..
  2. Agreed!, Last night I actually saw the cool wall segment on the GT-R and Clarkson justified his decision on 2 points, first, if the GT-R was a musical instrument he said it would be an electric key board not some 'cool' axe guitar that you dreamed of playing when you were a kid. If I'm not mistaken, after his time with the GT-R he initially had a view/expectation that it was a very 'electronic' experience, dull infact. Then he took it to the race track and CHANGED his view completely, he said something along the lines that it was a "very organic or analogue experience" not what he'd expected at all- car blew him away. Jay Leno said the same thing as well. So I was amazed that when it came to the cool wall, he ignored everything HE said about the GT-R and went along with the old cliche that it was like a computer (????)WTF!! Second, he said for all it's talents..people ask what you drive..and you'd say a Nissan...end of story...uncool. Now back to the point about comformity, I thought THAT would have made it cool, becuase it is a Nissan and you are not being as they say 'a cock' and buying and Audi or a Beemer, you are not conforming to the norm!. You've bought it becuase you don't conform and YOU KNOW that is as good as a Porsche (if we were to be kind) or actually rather better than a Porsche (if we were being honest). So here is a Car that is good as any Porsche Turbo (at nearly 1/3 the price), drives like a 'real car' (the orgainic, analogue driving experience), that is driven by real car enthusiasts, (not balding men in a mid life crises or fashion confming cocks)...and that makes it uncool? Looks like Top Gear have gone AGAINST their own criteria!!! = FAIL
  3. I wonder if anyone has read that the Nissan GT-R has been nominated as a finalist for the 2009 World car of the Year? Not only this it is also a finalist for World Performance car of the year. The GT-R faces some stiff competition though, but it's the only car with a double nomination. A world car of the year award would be huge for it's image if nothing else. The Nominees: WCOTY: - Audi A4 - BMW 7 Series - Citroen c5 - FIAT 500 - Ford Fiesta - Honda Jazz - Jaguar XF - Mazda6 - Nissan GT-R - Toyota iQ - Volkswagen Golf Mk6 WPCOTY: - Audi RS6 Avant - BMW 135i - Corvette ZR-1 - Lamborghini Gallargo LP560-4 - Mercedes C63 and SL63 AMG - Mitsubishi EVO X - Nissan GT-R - Porsche 911 - Subaru WRX STi
  4. I reckon these reports are far fetched that said I can see a sedan in the same vein as an Aston Martin Rapide/Porsche Panamera and Lamborghini Estoque with GT-R underpinnings and design cues, I reckon that could be a good thing and I reckon it would be badged and marketed as an Infiniti. I think the SUV would have a fair degree of differentiation to a GT-R coupe, that said, Nissan already have a range of very very sleek Infiniti SUV's, so how would this GT-R SUV fit?, not to mention the new Murano..
  5. Hey 200, not related to the topic, but interested in your little blurb about Porsche's at the bottom of your posts. Now I am new to this forum so I suppose you've spoken about this before. I'm actually a bit of a Porsche afficianado (have many copies of British publications, GT-Purely Porsche and 911 & Porsche World in my study), but I was wondering in what context is Nissan 20 years behind the 959? Don't get me wrong i love the 959 (although the running costs I've read are simply staggering- provided you can find someone willing to lay their spanners on it), but I assume that this this is in the context of a 4wd twin-turbo sports car? or have I missed something? I thought the 959 made production in 1985 and R32 GT-R made an appearance in 1989, that if I'm not mistaken is only four years not 20. Another really interesting bit of trivia, when Jeremy Clarkson drove the first R32 Skyline GT-R he made direct reference to the 959, something about "making the 959 look like it came out for the design studio of Freddy Flinstone". I was taken aback a little bit and I know JC embelishes a bit but there must be some truth to it. At the end of the day you could probably BUY an R32 GT-R for the cost of a major service on a 959, is it really that much better than the Nissan?.
  6. Wow! how amazing then. And on the Nurburgring subject, the amazing vid posted on this site with the R35 storming on a snow covered track REALLY sums up the incredible talents of this car. Lets see a ZR-1, Z06, GT2, Zonda, Koenigsegg, Caterham, Radical SR8 etc do THAT!!!
  7. Great vid, I LOVE the dark wheels, they are even darker now, look so menacing. There is no doubt the 08MY is one of the smoothest most composed supercars on the planet, but the 09MY is really on another level, amazing! as is the speed differential thru the bends. I can't believe a car of this quality, performance, style and level of engineering will be available for $8,000 LESS than a HSV W427 or BMW M3!. Even a stock 3.6 911 Carerra is a good $70K more BEFORE you add options. One can only imagine what the Spec V will be capable of....
  8. I thought that the 7.29min Nurburgring GT-R's were 09MY spec with suspension and tyre upgrades. On various forums, Corvette and Porsche fans have been whinging and whining that the car that did the time was not exactly the same as the showroom car on sale. Also from other articles I have read the 09MY sans launch control are still capable of 0-100km/h time in 3.5 secs. Is this true?
  9. I guess only if there were 30-50 or so frim expressions of interest would Nissan Aus consider it. That said there are only a small handful of Porsche 911 GT3/GT3RS so it wouldn't be a volume car by any stretch of the imganiation. If it was $245K, but as quick as a Pagani Zonda R it may find buyers. From the pics posted on this forum it seems to reek of quality and precision, ceratinly at least as nice as a 911 carrera S, which is also about $240K mark here.
  10. Does Porsche sell the GT3 RS or Lambo the Gallardo Superleggera in the US?, if so, it's odd they are not ready for a car like the SpecV. BTW, what do you make of the quote in the Nissan press release for the GT-R SpecV last week? they are saying there are no current plans for the SpecV. Sometimes manufacturers say they are investigating the possibility of the viability of a model in our local market. Your information seems to contradict nissan Australia....i hope yours is correct though. Porsche have sold plenty of Gt3 and lambo have sold a few Superleggera Gallardo here. A GT-RSpec V to outpefrom both for $250K would be great!
  11. Nope, from the Nissan press release last week....... "The GT-R goes on sale locally in early April. There are no current plans for the Spec V in Australia"
  12. Having worked in the motor industry and seen how all cars depreciate, I'm not sure the BMW will do better than the GT-R from that perspective. Values of grey import R32/R33/R34 Skylines are all over the place becuase they are just that, a grey import, a local delivered GT-R, be it original R32 or R35 will be treated very differently by the market and industry wholesalers. Another thing that history shows is that high priced BMW, Merc, Audi etc, also suffer savage depreciation. E36 M3 can be bought for a song, even E46 are coming back too. Any top end 5 series, 7 series or Merc equivelant are cheap as chips once 10 years old. The M6 with it's $300K plus starting price will cop a huge hit. On the second hand market they suffer because people are very wary buying such a car that will involve oppressive maintanance...and lets face it some so-so reliability with incredibly complex electronics on BMW's. Don't get me wrong i LOVE the Euro cars but they do depreciate and maintance is a killer. As for the video, if the GT-R was speed limited then the race becomes irrelevant., once that limit is reached There is no doubt that from 0-100 km/h, 1/4 mile perspective, the GT-R is in another league to just about any standard production car on the planet, however there certainly are faster cars once you look at 180 km/h+ even without the GT-R's limiter, in this case the GT-R seemed to reach a limit and there the BMW was able to fly past. if my pockets were deep enough, I'd have both!
  13. On the surface that may seem the way to go, but if you look at the market competitors like the GT3 or GT2 Porsches, they still have leather seats, power windows, A/c etc. As a matter of fact they are quite comfortable & well equipped considering they are 'stripper' specials...and that's a good thing. Yes it would be great to see a huge hp figure, and a massive weight loss, but this use of CF, carbon-ceramic brakes etc may well see a Nurbugring lap time of low 7.20's perhaps (and quite likely) enough to eclipse Corvette ZR-1 & Pagani Zonda R. If this is the case at double the price, it may look expensive compared to 'regular' GT-R, but at $290-$300K equivelant, it's still an incredible bargain, still well under the price of a 911 turbo and similar money to Carerra 4S..but with Pagaini Zonda R performance!. The best thing it wouldn't be a noisy, kidney jarring gutted shell on wheels, but a relatively comfortable and luxurious hypercar. Lets wait for road and track tests.........
  14. On the surface it seems like a cash grab, but if you think about it, the std R35 GT-R is an anomoly in the market place. It should be a lot more expensive than what Nissan charge, I mean it's a whole $100,000 cheaper than a Porsche 3.8 Carrera S and I think Nissan pulled a rabbit out of the hat to sell the GT-R at the price they are. I think we need to see exactly how this new V-Spec performs before jumping to conclusions. The carbon-ceramic brakes should make a huge difference for starters. As for the extensive use of carbon fibre, that's all good and well but if you bend it, imagine the repair costs? As it is there seems to be a fair amount of CF anyway. I reckon Nissan have done an outstanding job (save perhaps the alloy wheel design) and I can't wait to see this thing unleashed on the road/track. I'm sure that Porsche ,Cheverolet and others will have their feathers suitably ruffled.
  15. Wow!, considering Nissan's history in the Australian Touring Car scene, that is a very significant move. How ironic that the car that effective formed the V8 Taxi circus we see now will be back again leading the pack. Speaking of pack, I wonder if the top-o-the mountain bathurst yobs will hurl empty VB tins and once again act like a "pack of ar$eholes"??
  16. It's not a full on account of the specs, but carbon ceramic brakes should make a huge difference. I love the colour, I'm glad Nissan didn't make this look like an Autosalon special although I'm undecided on the wheel design. I reckon when we get full specs including performance this should really impress.
  17. In all fairness, the media did give that particular story a lot of coverage and the guy is being charged with careless driving. Still, as much as I love motorsport, it's hard to justify 170 km/h on our roads.
  18. ..it probably HAS 375kW! Some of the dyno tests I have seen on youtube, particularly Motor Trend were talking around 505hp for the red stock GT-R they tested.
  19. Hi all, my first post here! Well 2 cars I really love. I've always liked and greatly respected R32/R33 and R34 GT-R, but I would always have a Porsche 911 over these, however the R35 GT-R has changed all that, IMO a genuine exotic, built and engineered to Porsche standards..and if not bloody close. I have had time to crawl around the silver R35 GT-R bought in by Nissan Australia and the quality, fit, finish is really something else. I also feel it is the first car to challenge a Porsche in the looks dept, especially that shark like profile and what I think are one of the best std alloy wheels available. The interior is a revelation for a Nissan too, a real class act and a match for most Porsches. As a long time Europhile i'd even say the R35 is the first GT-R you could park in front of a posh hotel... as well as tear up the race track. The question here is, if I could. Well if I could spend $150K there is nothing to touch a GT-R, a Boxster is lovely but not in the same ball park. A 911 Turbo is $360K PLUS options Plus on roads, that's close to $400K all up and the GT2 will leave you little change out of $500K....and the thing is at best they are no quicker than the GT-R but more importantly (and I'll know this will sound lame) the Gt-R is soo much easier to drive fast than any 911, esp GT2/GT3 and as a family man with 2 young kids, comfy back seats for the kids, a boot for a few bags or golf clubs and a dual clutch gear box that is ruthlessly efficient at going quick and easy enough for my wife to drive can't be ignored. Sure a Gt3 or Gt2 oozes sex appeal and I absolutely LOVE them, but they are 2 seaters, loud and impractical and way more expensive. For the price of those I'd have a GT-R and a property or even a GT-R and a 3.6 Carrera, so GT-R for me, black with the dark alloys (Premium model)......oh and no crappy looking aftermarket spoilers, body kits or decals, it's perfect as it is!
