you just summed up your last two posts extremely well. I cant see one phrase in any of my comments (bar this one) that doesn't answer his question. How did i not answer his question? I gave my opinion and stated that i have driven one before, that wasn't too off topic was it? I apologise if it was.

True, but how different can they HONESTLY be? They are all sub 2.0L engines, with fully hektik veee tecc yooo, I still can't see what all the fuss is about. A well done pulsar SSS with be on par if not beat them, with less than half the fuss/talk-up/unnecessary noise. Hat's off to Honda for making reliable engines though, and they have bullshit high rev limits from factory too!

Turbo X-trail

Computer controlled. The whole purpose of the 2nd cat converter was to pass stricter emissions testing, (EURO 3 I think...) so along with the 2nd cat, the state of tune was somewhat subdued... I'm not sure exactly how Nissan went about this, I'm guessing they just took some timing out and/or made the mixtures a tad richer/leaner. If you want to get that 7kw back (and a few NM of torque too - that's probably what you feel the lack of in the '04 model), the best way to do it is get either an after market exhaust make up that rids of the 2nd cat converter, AND find an ECU from a < October 2003 x-trail. But if i were you i wouldnt bother, the potential risks outweigh the gain - those fvcking electronic throttles are soo sensitive... Just get a decent flowing exhaust/single cat and live with the fact that your car no longer has factory emissions -
Bucket in my vote. Hondas are just glorified corollas, yes some of them can be fast, but they are still a Honda. They all SEVERELY lack in torque, so yeah, I don't see the fuss in them at all. Before anyone says anything, I've driven an integra vti-r before (it was a loan car), and i couldnt WAIT to get back into my (then) non-turbo x-trail.

Airflow meter problem? Dying fuel pump? Crank angle sensor? Dont know much about VQs and their problems but that's where i'd look...

Yeah very cool... I agree with the part where the writer talks about how turbochargers havnt (drastically) changed design in decades. Typical American engineering (think small block v8 - a design that's been used for more then half a century and only ever underwent small changes.), Garrett have only really made small changes in the last few decades of turbo engineering. If they followed suit from Toyota and started playing around with variable geometry, electric/mechanical assist, etc, we could have some interesting times ahead for us forced induction bretheren... But wait! Garrett is an American brand, so they're likely to use the same design for the next 50 years while the rest of the world is streaks ahead (again, think Chevrolet zr1/z06 vs gtr...) It would suck if these new turbos still suffered the effects of cost cutting and came with journal bearings and ceramic wheels, although i think those days are over, as most new turbos are at least ball bearing... Great read! Thanks!

Turbo X-trail

Nah the series 1 xtrails that came in australia had 132kw, the most for an NA engine in an exy, then the series 2 (late 2003 - 2007) were down tuned to 125, which is what they make now. They are down tuned by a second cat converter and different fuel trims. There's no chips or anything that give you that extra power, the best thing I'd do is put a decent full exhaust. Don't pay that 2500+ for that one on Australian xtrails it's wayyyy over priced... Get a 250-300 set of extractors from eBay then yet the rest cutsom made, my 3" stainless steel turbo-back exhaust with a decent stainless cat converter and some good mufflers, cost me less than 800 bucks. Then you'll pick up about 10-15wkw plus you'll have a great note! The QR25 has a great sound so bring it out as much as possible... I'd love to get a hold of a gt, but it's pointless now cos I'm making more power than one would anyway! SR20vet.... Hmmmmm... :)H -

Hey man thanks for the advice! I've been meaning to get a strutbar asap, just havnt got round to it yet. It's the next thing I think. Your advice has tipped me over the edge lol I don't have my old extractors I sold them... I've got a pair of standard ones but I doubt you would be interested in them... I had OBX ones on my car before the turbo and swore by them... Cheap on eBay if you wanna have look. Everythings done now except for the tune... Goin in on Friday. Here's a video of my turbo's flutter revving I neutral... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L1o-WXLleJ p.s. Can someone tell me how to embed a YouTube video in a post? I can't figure it out with BB code... -

f**k yeah! 'roos are sick... -Niel Hawkins park: (during the day) ace spot for a picnic/BBQ. -The moon cafe on a Thursday night: (I know it's a cafe/restaurant but very cool) live jazz/chill music and all-round cool spot for a hangout. -Hillarys marina: Cool spot for icecream and a walk around. -As for the shells: The stretch between Trigg and Sorrento beach (Watermans, Mettams pool etc...) is cool for snooping around on the beach! -Just go to some random carpark, get baked (if you're into it) then ANYTHING becomes entertaining...

lol idiot James! You've got AWD and 240ish mm of tyres all round. Spare a though for the rubber challenged brethren who are stuck driving their mum's car while they install a new turbo... N16 pulsar understeer yay!

All factory Nissan turbos were either made by IHI, or Aireasearch (a division of Garrett), and I'm certain that they are Aireasearch (or genuine Garrett) on RB, CA, SR, FJ and VG/some early VQ engines. The rest (new VQ, VR and some others) are made by IHI. You'll need a boost controller for this. I don't know how the factory boost solenoid works, I've never owned an RB so I can't help ion that regard. What I'd recommend doing is getting a manual boost controller and plumbing that in, they are simple things that bleed off air to a specific boost pressure, so that the wastegate opens at a higher pressure, giving you more boost. I wouldn't recommend going over 3-4psi above a stock tune - from factory they run 7psi I think (not sure if Stags are different from skylines). The stock ceramic turbos are only good for about 12-14psi, even then that's too big of an increase. When you are running more boost, you need to have the engine tuned to compensate, i.e. more fuel for the increased amount of air. If you run too much more boost with out a tune to match, its very dangerous for your engine. That said, (someone else will have to confirm this) I'd say 3-4psi over stock would be fine, so about 10-11psi, and should give you a healthy increase of power. Look into getting a manual boost controller(<$100), the instructions that come with them are usually pretty good. But if you are unsure, I'd suggest you get a workshop to install/adjust if for you, 'cos it's dangerous stuff to be messing with if you don't know what you're doing - and no offense intended, but it sounds like you're just starting to play around with turbos and engine tuning... Good luck mate!

Turbo X-trail
StealthX replied to StealthX's topic in Members Cars, Project Overhauls & Restorations
Yeah I'd love to own/modify a GT... So rare though... Only 500 ever made and they're in crazy demand for their SR20VETs... In other words I've gotta beat all the other Silvia owners to one, cos a heap of people wanna buy a full GT just for the engine! This build has really opened my eyes up, cos with the coilovers and some decent wheels, along with the 240whp I hope to make, I don't imagine it'll perform that bad at all... I never thought that a big, lofty SUV could perform well. But at the end of the day it's only 1350kgs, got AWD, independent suspension, and some decent power to go with it! Plus I've always been a fan of sleepers too! I'm almost done with the turbo conversion, just need to wait for the water line adaptors to come in the mail, I need them before thursday cos it's booked in for the new dump to be made on Friday and also booked in Friday arvo to go to Hyperdrive for the tuning, and I don't wanna move the tuning back another week! More pics soon... -
Air Leak From Seal Plate Bolt(turbo)
StealthX replied to Ric-3's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
^^^ This. That's an odd place to leak, and I doubt you'd have much air leaking from there anyway. You wouldn't even be able to measure a leak that small, let alone notice a difference in power look for more leaks in cooler piping etc...... Oh an BTW, that wont damage your turbo at all if left, but take the comp housing off and fix it anyway... -

Do You Know A Ben Ellis Who Works(ed) For Zurich Financial Services?
StealthX replied to GHOSTrun's topic in New South Wales
Sound tough mate... I'd imagine Zurich Financial Services couldn't give out much information for privacy reasons too... Try going to a lawer about it, see what can be done in terms of getting more information, also might be able to track the IP address of the SAU account with his service provider and that might get you an address even! Good luck champ! -
It's Illegal on your Ps bro. We've already said that. Superchargers aren't really worth it. Turbos shit on them. Personally I'd just spent your money on wheels tyres, suspension etc... Then ditch the VL when you're off your Ps and get something that's better to work with i.e. something RB20/25/26, SR, 1JZ, 2JZ etc... THEN you can look forward to making good, reliable power...
