  1. The 5 and 6 (i.e. the number) is the heat rating of the spark plug. The higher the number, the hotter the plug, and warmer plugs are used for turbo cars because boost causes more combustion chamber heat. If your book recommends you run the 6s, and your current plugs are 5s, then this would certainly be your problem... Make sure they are gapped correctly though, the gap should be listed in the NGK book you've been reading.
  2. I've got this one for sale if you're interested: -> http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/Vg...05#entry5161705 It blows smoke and has radial shaft play, but if you're interested in doing a rebuild/high flow, this would suit you...
  3. Should i remind everyone of a crazy cool fact about this engine: It revs from idle to redline in 0.6 seconds!!! insane!
  4. First disconnect your boost controller to just run the wastegate pressure, see if there's anything wrong with the EBC itself!
  5. Yeah there's heaps of speculation over the price! Wiki says:
  6. Price is $300k-$350k USD. And yeah they're making 200 of them worldwide. It's def not a competitor to the GTR, but in terms of each model's flagship performance car, Nissan has the GTR, Porsche has the GT3, Ford has the GTHO coming out soon, and Lexus has the LFA. Think of it like that.

  8. What does everyone think about it? Saw an ad for it yesterday, its a concept car at current, but looks like its going to be released 2011/2012 along with the FT-86. I reckon its awesome, that engine is a work of art. A few specs: 4.8L 72deg V10, individual electronically controlled throttles, dry sump, 412kw, 480nm and a redline of 9000 rpm A very cool stat is that it can rev from idle to redline in 0.6 seconds! <- does anyone else find this fvcking insane??? http://www.lexus.com/LFA/ http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lexus_LFA Obviously its placed in the same vague 'super-car-turned-street-car' sorta category, but is much more expensive with the price expected to be $300,000 - $350,000USD. This makes the LFA competition to a Porsche 911 GT3, Ferrari Scuderia, Lambo Murcielago etc.. Not to mention it looks like sex on four wheels too Enjoy.
  9. Yeah even the tiniest of leaks can cause a mass fire in RB engines, because they are MAF sensored... Do you have a pic of said silicone coupler? How old are your spark plugs? They could be fouled and not firing properly, the boost is blowing out the poor spark if so, this would prevent your engine from making more boost. Go through the length of your exhaust and check for studs that are loose, specifically the head-manifold and manifold-turbo ones. Other than that, have a look at your spark plugs, replace that silicone coupler if it looks like its leaking, and double check all the vacuum hoses and electronics are working for the EBC. Maybe even try to disconnect the wastegate actuator and take it for a spin. Watch your boost gauge very closely and see if you can boost above 7psi. Not the safest method, but it will rule out if your EBC is the problem... Good luck bro!
  10. They are still illegal man, if you even need to go over the pits, you'll get raped. If you really want one, maybe get a flange to cover up the hole, and that will allow you to take off the entire unit, if the times come and you need to go over the pits. Other that the legalities, they are sick! All you'd need is a bit of wiring, then an exhaust shop to make up a 'Y' piece for ya. Good luck bro!
  11. Might help to tell us how much boost you SHOULD be running mate lol. 6-7psi is normal for 25s if my memory serves me correct... Have a look for an exhaust leak, and/or boost leak. Boost leak can indeed cause your missing/spitting, and an exhaust leak can cause a lack of boost/laggy feel
  12. does it need 4 different posts dude!? do it yourself, they're not a hard job at all!!
  13. I did the same things as Scott (m35 stag) on my X-Trail and ripped out my electronic TB and replaced it with a 65mm SR20 TB... It's hard to tell if it made any more/less power, cos i had a shat turbo and an eff off exhaust leak a the same time, but unless your shooting for 600whp+, a few mm in throttle bore wont make a huge difference. As NIB said, it can become hard to drive, the throttle becomes more of an 'on' 'off' switch rather than a progressive increase of flow. throttle sizes are matched with different air flows, because consider: 20% opening on a 70mm throttle = 'x' amount of air, then consider 20% opening on a 90mm TB = alot more than 'x' amount of air... Thu it becomes harder to regulate the amount of air going into the engine. None of this directly leads to more power, cos there is no more or less overall air that's entering the engine.
  14. Up for grabs is a VG30et journal bearing, steel wheeled turbocharger. Don't know how many k's its done, ive used it for about 8000 kms but im pretty sure its had 80,000+ on it. It made 220 all wheel HP on 10psi on my X-Trail. Saw full boost by 2500rpm (on a 2.5L) It blows a fair bit of smoke and the shaft play is fairly noticeable. Both wheels are in perfect condition, and It would suit a rebuild or highflow, as these have one of the biggest rear housings on stock nissan turbos... GREAT upgrade for RB25/20s. I'm located in Perth but will post, and im asking $150 INCLUDING postage... PM me here, or call/msg 0424438501 Thanks!
  15. yeah id go to bunnings and get some high temp paint. doesnt need to be heat resistant i.e. exhaust paint, just something good for at least 120deg id say... paint section of bunnings... short of that, maybe try a pannel beaters, any decent place they'll easily be able to do it!
  16. That's true... I still cant see how if gonna be THAT involved that its gonna cost $1100... maybe those computers coupled with that engine is a big mystery... might even be cheaper to install and tune something else! My EMS stinger -> X-trail turbo cost me $1200... I'm sure there's cheaper standalones out there... [edit]: that price included sending the ecu to melbourne (from perth) for a software upgrade and an hour or so on the dyno...
  17. $1100 is pretty steep for just a tune. considering there's already a decent tune on the computer... all they should need to do is wack it on the dyno and adjust some AFRs and timing. MAX $300 i rekon...
  18. do it yourself! few ratchet sizes, spray can, lazy afternoon. if you want it powdercoated or professionally done, it might help to provide us with information. like for example where in this large country of ours you are located...
  19. im hoping 2 weeks rhys... all i need to do really is modify the exhaust mani and the dump. the rest i can knock off in half a day... then hyperdrive can do the tuning, thats it! still gotta sort out a wastegate actuator though, need a garrett low pressure one, not the high pressure one thats on it now... as for kwinana, im not really that keen until EVERYTHING's 100%, im still a while off yet.
