Ohk didn't know that! From Wiki: Another thing, it could be a small vacuum leak maybe? Did you forget the carbon canister or any of the vacuum lines when you did the conversion? (not doubting ya or anything, just going through the possibilities) Does it still drive fine? i.e. lost any power?

my aftermarket one on my x-trail most nights has condensation dripping off the cold side! FMICs work wonders...

What does the smoke smell like? If it smells like burnt oil, I'd say turbo - this smoke is usually blue though. If it goes away under boost, I'd say its not the turbo. If it smells sweet, it could be headgasket - this smoke is usually thick and very white. If it smells like unburnt fuel then it could be spark plugs, coils, injectors, something fuel related. Some cars can blow a bit of smoke on cold startup - and it could be a myriad of things. Do a compression test, that will rule out anything major like valves or piston rings. After that I'd go to a performance shop and get them to put it on the dyno, see what your A:FRs are... BTW, I didn't know RB20DEs came out in an R34!? Are you sure it wasn't an RB25DE?

A bigger intercooler wont directly give you more power. You might notice a tiny bit more power under boost, but at near stock power levels, its almost negligible. Usually bigger intercoolers go hand in hand with more boost. This it because more boost = more heat and thus a greater tendency to experience detonation. If you were to install a bigger intercooler then have your engine tuned, the better cooling will allow your tuner to add more ignition timing because the air is colder and easier to work with. BTW, more advanced ignition timing = more power. So bigger intercooler with no tune = tiny gain. bigger intercooler with an aggressive tune = some gains. I/Cs are mainly a safety thing, and their performance benefit is a (great) side effect. If it's power your after, the first thing I'd do is an exhaust, a good dump and front pipe with a decent sounding cat-back all in 3'. Bring our that glorious RB sound, then look for more boost and a tune is a necessity after that... As for the GTR FMIC fitting the GTS-T, I don't own a skyline so i can't help you, someone else will tho... Everything said, big dardy intercoolers look f**king sick peeping through the bumper Not at all bro, that;s what this site is for!

I've had a myriad of problems with my fly-by-wire system in my x-trail. So much so, I fvcked it off and installed a a cable throttle instead. Do yourself a favor. Electronic throttles work well, but as soon as you start modifying anything engine or computer wise, they go nuts on you. I had a hunting idle, no throttle control under 50%, a 3000rpm idle and it occasionally wanted to stall on me, all within the case of installing and tuning my engine computer...

Turbo X-trail
StealthX replied to StealthX's topic in Members Cars, Project Overhauls & Restorations
Nah no ones asked it before! lol yeh i kept it. Full climate control system works perfect. I had to bend one of the aircon lines out of the way of the dump pipe, but other than that, didnt touch the A/C system... The only thing ive lost is cruise control due to the mechanical throttle conversion. But I think i can live with that -
Even Smart FourTwos are 800cc turbos! haha

Mate... You have no idea how interested I am, except I'm in Perth Wanna trade for my turbo x-trail?? haha Good luck man! -
gosh darn i love hear stories like this! did you find who was responsible? they deserve a good beating anyway... Good to hear its not damaged though!
-
nah, really?? I still don't think its necessary to mention it. The entire article reeks of name and shame. i.e. all these articles go out of their way to mention they were driving a "high powered, turbo" skyline (or similar words).

I rekon this is perfect example of media hype. Why the f**k would you need to mention the dog squad? Clearly those pooches aren't literally going to chase down a car @ 180km/h... So why Mr. Journalist, did you need to include that? It just makes an even worse name for us car enthusiasts... But what a f**khead, i bet hes a no hoper anyway. Well he is now haha Should never have a license again and have a hefty punishment to go with it...

a stock 33gtr will have exactly what you want. the low end. the 4800rpm+ one that you drove must have been modified with lagggy turbo(s). Sorry to break it but you wont get much more down low pull than a GTR with stock or similar turbos. R33: Go series two, pick some nice subtle rims and keep the stock kit. I'd rip off the spoiler too (and that just apperance...) They're common and get a lot of attention from the oink oink. Not to mention they are pretty ugly in stock form. The rb25 is great to modify though! S15: I'd pick this out of the list hands down. nice, quick cars. JDM ones will hold their value better, but will prob be out of your price range because of that. Maybe save up a bit more first? It'll be worth it in the end. Heaps of part for the SR too. S14: MUST be a series two. i.e. s14a. Series ones are ugly as. A nice aggressive body kit all round, lowered a bit with decent rims and you have a f**king sick looking car IMO. Same as with the s15, parts easy to come by, light, handle well too! Considered an r32? You could pick up a good GTS-t for under 10 grand then spend some money on one, maybe even an rb25 conversion if you/your friends are mechanically minded...

Turbo X-trail
StealthX replied to StealthX's topic in Members Cars, Project Overhauls & Restorations
Yeh they do handle like a boat... Im looking at coilovers soon a company in malaysia called hotbits make x-trail specific ones, a strut brace and a bigger rear sway bar to rid of that understeer... -
Turbo X-trail
StealthX replied to StealthX's topic in Members Cars, Project Overhauls & Restorations
Thanks man, yeh stock internals are good for about 280-300whp and head gaskets are more a function of age (how old the motor is)... You're probably familiar with a Nissan Sentra right? They share the same QR25DE motor that the x-trails have, and heaps of guys in the US put turbo kits on, there's bin bulk research done by them so i've sorta stolen all their hard work and applied it on my car... -
bosch 040 or walbro gss341. both capable of 350+whp, i got my genuine walbro for $90, $110 shipped to my door... GTR pump would be a good option, im not sure how much head room it would have, but it should easily support 210rwkw...

Yeh sweet, i was working for the WACC that day too, i was selling fuel and working in timing for a while... Steve's 180 got a bit banged up aye, hopefully didnt do any suspension damage :| Andrew from hyperdives's 180 did well too, set the fastest lap time in sport sedan too i think... Good day for it too, few tiny spots of rain but cleared up and was good temp hey...

Yo, was heading to barbagallo on Saturday and I was in front of a grey 32 gtr most of the way there... @ about 11:30 Had normal WA plates, moved to the side for intercooler flow, and you turned off at the go karts. Who was it!? own up! You have a sick ride... Anyway, anyone attend the race meet? Some good action but a bit of carnage though...
