help removing main pulley and rear diff!!
Jay95R33 replied to PHATR32's topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
G'day Steve, You'll need a gear puller to get the front pulley off. No other way around it If I remember right, it's tight for space down there, so you'll probably have to get the radiator out to get the gear puller in there to get the pulley off. Locked diff.... So is it a 1/2 way diff and you want to make it into a normal LSD ? If so, you need to replace the diff centre. Some mechanicals are adjustable (to a point) but not all. J -
Who can complance a Stagea?
Jay95R33 replied to 4door_Sleeper's topic in Four Door Family & Wagoneers
Driftt is selling his car. It's very nice, might be worth a look. Nizmo complied my Stagea, they are in QLD somewhere though. $29k seems like a lot of money for a car with no leather and no sunroof's.. I got mine privately for $21 and it has all the gear with only 41,000km, and I got it when they where first coming out so the prices where highish.... There's a heap of QLD dealers selling them now, if you've got a friend in QLD/Bris area maybe they can look around for you? Then take the family on a quick QLD holiday for a weekend (Jetstar have MEGA cheap flights at the moment) to look at it for yourself and get it checked. Or, if you don't mind waiting, import your own and save a heap. J -
G'day Brad, Apparently the GTR pumps are a much easier fit, just need a very slight trimming of the plastic and it slots straight in. I think the GTR pump will handle about 240rwkw, maybe a touch less with the AWD setup of the Stagea. With using a 044 in a external setup you should for heaps more. J
-
Well that sucked dogs balls !! And I'm not talking about a cute little puppy either, I'm talking about a big fat hairy dogs balls !! The new pump is in. Took me about 2 1/2 hours but it's in. It would have been so much easier if I had a GTR pump cause the Walbro that I used is much smaller in size. Basically the pump is clamped into a plastic frame, and that plastic frame is slotted and clipped into another plastic mount that is inside the fuel tank. But if your using a smaller pump the pump just slops around in the frame and the frame won't stay together for you to mount it back in the car... Very frustrating.... Plus, the way that the frame slides and clips into position makes it hard to figure out where to position the cable ties to hold it there But, after all that it's in and working well. I ended up not using the top half of the plastic frame cause I just couldn't get the damn thing to sit in place for me to clip it back into the mount. It doesn't effect anything, and the little plastic surge tank thing (where the fuel pick up is) is still in place and working fine. I thought it would be loud cause there isn't any rubber sleave around it, and one part of the pump is hard up against the hard plastic frame, but I can't hear it all all once it's primed up and running. The sock sits at the same height/position to the factory setup so that's good. The one thing I forgot to put back in was the plastic clamp that holds the fuel pump power wires and the two hoses together And it looks like the fuel level sender is catching a little on the hoses or wires cause I filled it right up after I did the swap and the needle stopped at about 7/8 full.. Sooo next weekend I'll take the cap off and clamp the hoses and wires toghether. If anyone is doing a swap I'll be able to give some pointers to help out, but I'm not sure if I want to do another one !! J

That's great work SK. I've got two large pieces of 2mm aluminium sheeting that have been anodised black that will suit this project perfectly I'm pretty keen to see how the Jaycar kits go too. I was keen to try one on the R33 before it went to heaven, but never got a chance J

Sounds great SK, Have a good Xmas everyone, and drive safe !.. J

Standard TV in SII skyline - other purposes?

G'day Steve, It's a stand alone player, sort of.... Here's a link to the one I've been eyeing off for a while; http://www.airlinktek.com/english/prod_mg25.htm J -
I was just thinking. Are the performance valve bodies electronically switchable in anyway ? Would be perfect if you could hook it upto the 'power' switch so it was on when in power mode. It's a long shot

Interesting stuff. I think at around 200kw with awd the shift kit may be a good thing. Lots of traction and a heap of power could see the box slip heaps. The cooler will help a lot though $500 is pretty good if you compare it with the cost of a decent HD (or twin plate) clutch in a manual. I still haven't had a chance to get that fuel pump in in mine then I'll book it in to see how the Unichip and boost controler goes with the auto transmission.... So damn busy J
-
Great work SK, thanks for the info. Looks pretty straight forward too. Sorta off topic a tad, but have you had any experience with shift kits for auto transmissions? Apparently they speed up the shift and lenghten the life of the box etc.. Cheers J
-
Good stuff, thanks SK. Is there any performance difference with running a bigger cooler (nicer/quicker shifts) or it mainly for a safe gaurd for towing ? I noticed on mine there's a smallish cooler up the front, but not sure if this is for the gearbox or power steering. Cheers J

G'day Blaknite - could you send me a few pics of these gauges. After a 2 inch boost gauge. [email protected] Cheers J

Standard TV in SII skyline - other purposes?
Jay95R33 replied to Scooby_Steve's topic in Car Audio & Electrical
Usually they have an aux input so you can hook a dvd/mp3 player up to them. They usually put the control box under the passenger seat, or up under the dash on the passengers side. Just remember that the screen will more than likey be NTSC, not the Australian standard of PAL. I've got the TV/sat nav stuff in the Stagea, I've ripped all the sat nav stuff out and will just use the screen. I've found (on the net) a small unit that plays mpg/avi/divx/dvd etc, also plays mp3 and comes with USB2 and a 20gig hard drive. Very handy to load and play movies and mp3's anywhere you go. J -

Good stuff Jake I've only got three words. PICS PICS PICS !! -
G'day SK, yepp, looked very much like the old stock cooler that I pulled off of my r33 GTS-t. Even down to the mounting brackets etc.. J
-
I can clarify that the R33 GTS-t Trust side mount intercooler is a near perfect fit on a 96/97 Stagea cause that's what's on mine at the moment. The top and back mounting points line up perfectly, although the front mounting point doesn't cause the Stagea's tow hooks are located further rearward compared the the R33's. Although the two mounting points (the top one in particular) makes it very secure. Remember that the two hoses help hold the cooler there too. The only other thing I had to do was trim about one inch of plastic off the inside of the front bar. Mind you, when you put the black plastic wheel arch thing in you can't even see where I trimmed the plastic !! I noticed a noticable difference in responce and power when I put it in. I wouldn't say it gave me a million kw at the wheels, but there was a definate difference. J
-
Depending on your power goal, Trust make an replacement intercooler that sits in the stock location. Three times the thickness, MUCH better end tank design, and it flows heaps better too. I'm not sure how much power it will support, but if your after a mild setup it might be worth looking at (secondhand). You may be able to pick one up for the cost of just the pipework on a FMIC. J
-
Yepp, same here. They are (after all) the sleeper of all wagons I think the replacement front grill looks very nice (Terminal has one) and maybe colour code the black plastic stripes around the car, but that's about it. J
-
Yepp, it has the same BOV that's on the R33 GTS-t's. And yepp, it only really does something when you come off the accelerator peddal.
-
Great work. Glad they fitted without to much modifying. Cheers J

G'Day from a 'new' Stag owner
Jay95R33 replied to tigerleo62's topic in Four Door Family & Wagoneers
Ahh good stuff... I was at the lights the other day, no other cars around, raining etc.. So I thought I'd test the 4wd system. Left foot hard on the brake, right foot on the go peddal. Stalled it up to about 2300rpm and took the brake off. There was a very slight twitch in the back end and then it took off. I think the backs spun a fraction and then the fronts came in to play But after a took the brake off I looked down and saw that the power light was on, even though it was in normal mode... Very cool.
