  1. Yeah, I've got a feeling I will make more power through the guts of the curve and make pretty much the same power up top. Once the High Flow goes on however, I will make up the top end better. So theory goes like this.... Boost is only the restriction made in the system. If the system can swallow, lets say a figure of 100 unit of air (UOA), with stock cams. Drop the cams in and the car can then then swallows 120 UOA, as the turbo blows into the cylinder for a longer period of time. This air is also lower in temperature because it is pushing the same amount of air, but at a lesser restriction. BUT, say the turbo just runs out of puff at 7000 rpm without cams pushing 100 unit of air.... I make higher power then before at 1,2,3,4,5000 rpm....... Then at 5950 the turbo reaches its efficiency level of 100 UOA. Intake air starts to heat more than is good and the power curve levels off. Between 5950 and 7000 rpm, the turbo is inefficient and pumping heat, although hopefully not too much because the restriction is less. Power curve looks meatier then before, makes better power all the way to 5950 rpm at which point it flattens out. Torque curve looks better all the way to 5950 also. Possibly better in the top and worse in the bottom then before, but not sure. Boost graph looks a little laggier in the initial stage, because as the turbo spools up (at it's fairy tale linear rate) and the restriction is less, it makes less boost at the same UOA level. Power is still up at this point as the same air at less temperature is in the air (cos of the lower boost level) Once at 11psi however, the boost stays flat. Does this all make sense or am I miles off??? I know that the standard turbo is making heat at the top end of my engine range, as when on the dyno, we upped the boost to 12psi and the power didn't change. SO.... My theory is that I will make more grunt where the engine is 90% of the time, between 2000 and 5000 rpm, and simply flatten out after that, making about the same max power. Area under the curve however will me improved..... As I said above, this is very arbitary, but I think its looking in the right direction.... BASS OUT
  2. Nope. The Poncams are designed to work with the VVT
  3. Hey ppls. I've been thinking for a long time about Poncams for the R34 GTT. Currently making 200 rwkw with intercooler, intake, PowerFC, Boost kit at 11psi. I've got that busted R34 GTT turbo in my office which will be highflowed soon enough. I have always planned to buy cams as well, and have also always wondered (along with a few others) about the effect of Cams on a stock turbo. SO, insted of doing turbo first, I'm going to do Cams first and do a report for the forums on the effect along with dyno charts and all that. I have the option of either 252 duration Poncams or 260 duration Poncams. Both have the 9.15mm of lift. How much difference is there between the two? Am I going to loose torque anywhere with either? Am I going to loose driveability with the 260 cams over the 252s? What are the standard durations? Do you think I will be making much more power or will I just pick up grunt until the stock turbo runs out of puff?? All help appreciated. BASS OUT
  4. Well, here they are.... I haven't got torque for the lower power level though.
  5. Nah it was good all night. I had Wanli tyres on which I've been told recently are grippy as for a cheap arse tyre (were on the car when I bought it), and I started at a 13.7 and got to a 13.4 at the end of the night. The this ran a 1.9 60ft and launched hard. Dumping the stock clutch at like 6000 rpm. That's why I'm so frustrated with the crappy times last night. My car is much faster now that it was, but the crappy times show that it ain't the best on the strip. Rev210 picked up 0.4 of a second with the lightweight flywheel.... Why did I drop speed? BASS OUT
  6. Hey ppls. Well, here's the story. First time out, ran a best of 13.4 at 106mph. No Major mods, stock clutch, stock turbo, computer, etc. etc. About 160 odd rwkw Only mods were king springs and koni adjustables at the softest setting. Hooked up to a 1.9 60ft. No Axel tramp, all good. Next time out, new mods were Ogura Lightweight Flywheel, HKS Front Mount. 165 odd rwkw. Couldn't better a 14.4 at some lowly mph. Axel tramp to the shithouse, shuddering through gear changes etc. etc. about Last night, new mods include PowerFC, bit more boost, etc etc 200 rwkw. Pineapples set to drag, Camber and alignment kit. Again had problems getting it off the line, and through the gears. Would either spin em up on the line and then have reasonable changes, or it would get off the line okay, and then when changing gears (esp into 2nd) it would break into axel tramp and bounce it's way down the strip. Best time of 13.9 at 101 mph. This was with a long cool down (about 45minutes) and a good launch. 2.219 60ft (Crappy I know) 9.052 660 ft @ 80.68 13.926 @ 101.07 at 1/4 Mile. $1000s of dollars to go slower! ARGH! Why oh why? I have wider tyres now, but no that hasn't helped. My theory is that with the lightweight flywheel the car is too keen to spin en up and at I change into second, it break traction and bounces away. Also, I noticed that when changing gears, unless I really really rushed it that the car would jerk back as I let the clutch out and put the foot down again. Again, I think that the flywheel is the culprit as there isn't as much inertia to keep the engine going and get that little jolt of forward motion as the clutch comes out. Why couldn't I crack the 12s... I so wanna crack the 12s Any ideas??? Do all you drag racers run light weight flywheels?? BASS OUT
  7. I've got 200 flat with stock turbo. Power FC Exhaust Cooler Pump.
  8. .OKAY NEWS TIME. I have recieved word that the R33 prototype is complete!! I will be getting it at the meeting on Tuesday night and so right after that I will be taking it to a fabricator who will make the bulk amounts. I will know then what the final price will be for the R33s. I would assume that the R34s will be the same price. Looking good. BASS OUT
  9. I'll have it to you over the weekend. I will have a faster time to put in my achievements tonight. Hoping for a 12.
  10. Oh yeah, what was the part number on the Stagea Apexi Suction kit?
  11. Emanuelt.... I love that duct. I'm trying to do a section in the standard duct at the monent..... Are you using your standard duct anymore?? Can I borrow/buy it from you? I need a prototype to play with.
  12. The problem with Turbos is that they spin at upwards of 100,000 rpm. An unbalanced turbo will self distract resonably quickly. To highflow the turbo, I don't think it's really that hard to do the machining, any competent machinist should be able to do it, but the balancing would be the difficult part. The companies who do the highflowing have there balancing machines to do it perfectly. I would say a lot of the cost of highflowing a turbo is paying for that machine..... But it's worth it. I would hate to go and spend, say, $800 on parts and then have them destroyed because the thing wasn't perfect.
  13. I need the spec sheet done for my car.... Can we use the details off the Grand Prix one??
  14. Hey Hey. Just saw this car in person and met Troy down at Genesis. Car is nice as, But LOW AS ALL GET OUT with the exhuast!! I guess that's why they are at Genesis!! Take it easy out there. BASS OUT
  15. Jeff Beable of Targa Tasminia fame requires a bit of information. Jeff owns a very nice R34 GTR N1 and needs to know about your header tanks for the radiator. His cas is fitted with an aluminum (or some sort of steel) header tank, but he knows of other cars which have a plastic header tank. His car is having troubles where the cars with plastic header tanks are not having the same troubles. So.... What do you have? Does anybody have an 34 GTR N1 with a plastic header tanks which they would be willing to have looked at? OR Does anybody want to sell a 34 GTR N1 radiator with plastic header tanks. Remembering that for Targa the car MUST BE STOCK or you cannot compete. All help appreciated. BASS OUT
  16. I've got an R34 GTT turbo sitting in my office. It's knackered, has a couple of bits missing from the exhuast wheel. It's going to be high flowed at GCG. Maybe I might put cams in before the turbo though. I'd expect about 240 rwkw from and R34 at about 15-17 pounds. SK is getting 265 with high flow and Tomei 270 cams. That's what I'm going for. BASS OUT
  17. Yeah happened to me too for a while. Hasn't done it for ages though. The engine splutters a little and then comes good. I just shut the car off, started it again and it was all good.
  18. Why can't he identify his own turbo?
  19. What's on the exhaust housing? My R34 GTT has the stamp B and then OP6
  20. Might be high flowed?
  21. I bet you can't wait until you get a bigger snail!!!!
  22. I know you guys are eager. So am I. I have a Stock R34 Turbo here which I am highflowing and I'm dying to get these damn dut finished, but it seems that everywhere I turn, I run into obstacles. I'll get there really soon. I promise. I have to, my next project is going to be wing mounts or Master Cylinder Braces!!
  23. Yep, it's still happening. Seems it's a hard task for me to get a prototype made up but where there's a will there's a way.
