RB25 Tomei 256 poncams vs HKS 256/264
LaurelPWR replied to LaurelPWR's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
If I like what I see from the Hks then yes, but if for some reason I get little to no gain and have a laggier curve then the hks will be for sale.. -
RB25 Tomei 256 poncams vs HKS 256/264
LaurelPWR replied to LaurelPWR's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Rb25 256/264 HKS cams acquired! I've already spoken to my tuner so hopefully well do a power run with my current set up and then swap out the poncams to these hks sticks and re tune.. so without doing anything else but the cams, it should be a pretty decent comparison. -

Little bit of manifold porn (: This is the manifold I'm having made for me but mine will be t3 twin scroll and have provisions for two Tial 38mm MVS gates. -
Yeh.... my excitement has been extinguished [emoji17]

Just read the comments, it's the G-25 550 on a forged 2L engine on 99ron and using the .72 a/r rear housing. This is looking very promising. Imaging what the G-25 660 on an RB25 with the same or next size up housing might be able to achieve and than add e85 to the equation [emoji848] We might see GTX3076 high boost type power with response like a HKS Gt-Rs... Here's the Facebook link - EDIT: f**k....just noticed it's in flywheel HP [emoji17]

Yeah for sure Disco.. There's already plenty of turbos in that size range that we run on our RB's... things like 2510, 2530, 2860, 2867, 2871 etc etc etc... yes they chock a little but they all perform well on low level RB engines. As Disco said^ if these things flow the numbers Garrett are claiming, they'll be in the billet 3076 range on an rb25..

Anyone heard of any results anywhere yet? Finding it strange that there's hype but no results on any forums..

Aweosm man!! Not many know of Altrack, so it's a pleasure to see another person who recognises the artwork he produces [emoji4][emoji1365] I'll definitely be posting up when it's done and in my hands. Will be costing around $3500-$4000aud I currently run a HPI manifold. -

It's a Street car so I would rather have epic low down response and a fat midrange and slightly less up top.. with the hks cams, it's kinda like I'm trying to have my cake and eat it.. I don't want to loose any of my response or mid while aiming to pick up a few kw mid-top. -

More boost is definitely what I did when I put the hks 2835 pro S on my engine with e85, it already see's 24psi haha it's way out of it's league already but it makes the numbers -
RB25 Tomei 256 poncams vs HKS 256/264
LaurelPWR replied to LaurelPWR's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
I have a Platinum Racing R35 coil kit with R35 splitfires, Platinum Racing trigger kit, Taarks V3 twin walbro surge tank, HKS 1000cc injectors and rail, Oversized 49mm rb26 itb's with NAPREC 50mm gaskets, HKS 100mm cooler and a link G4+ all going on my rb25 in a few weeks so I'm all about wasting money on shit for small gains hahah... I also have a new HTZ3076 with a Garrett 1.01 a/r twin scroll rear housing and I'm having a true equal length long runner low mount manifold made by specialist manifold maker altrack in Japan in the coming months, so more power is already a sure thing my dudes [emoji4][emoji1365] Anyways, I have been offered a set of the hks cams for quite cheep and I'm tempted... -
RB25 Tomei 256 poncams vs HKS 256/264
LaurelPWR replied to LaurelPWR's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Yeah I get where your coming from with the "bandaid" idea.. some might assume they can gain some response from getting more exhaust energy into the turbo with the bigger staggered exhaust cam when they should rather be spending the money and effort on better boost control, a better flowing manifold or a free flowing exhaust etc. That certainly isn't the case with my setup haha I have great response already and I was merely asking if you fine people think I might be able the pick up a few more hp without having my current graph curve drop below anywhere along the rev range from what it currently does [emoji4][emoji1365] -

RB25 Tomei 256 poncams vs HKS 256/264
LaurelPWR replied to LaurelPWR's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
My question has nothing to do with the brand... When I state the brand, I'm referring to the specs of that particular brand not the brand itself my dude. Yes Tomei make 256 and so does HKS, but once again... I'm referring to the staggered 256/264 hks cams vs Tomei 256/256 so there is a difference and will be a certain characteristic relating each of the cam types in rb25 set ups that have same/same turbos and bolt ons as seen in the graphs I've posted above. One thing that's interesting is that hks cams do seem to bring boost on earlier compared to the poncams and make slightly more peak for same boost levels but bottem to mid power seems to be much the same in a fair few of the results. Another thing I've noticed is the hks staggered seem to do a better job with internal gate boost control but when externally gates the poncams are pretty equal. -

Thanks for the post man. I'm only really after HKS 256/264 cam results though... I have poncams now and theres literally hundreds of poncam results around the net. Is your turbo internal gate? -

LaurelPWR replied to LaurelPWR's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Another set of old results from the RB25 dyno thread that look quite promising for poncam-like response with a decent top end for the given turbo/boost and fuel. Starting to think I I may be able to realise my girl [emoji848] -

What do you think Lith, can I keep my current response and get some small gains with the hks drop ins? -
RB25 Tomei 256 poncams vs HKS 256/264
LaurelPWR replied to LaurelPWR's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
These results from the RB25 dyno thread are pretty decent as far as response is concerned and that's a pretty decent top end figure too for that boost level on only 23psi & p98 fuel [emoji848] looks very poncam-like. I guess hub dyno results are a little stretched tho.. -

I'm open to any and all brands if I can retain VCT and keep my current responsiveness !!!!! Please feel free to school me (: -
Hey guys. Apologies in advance for the age old topic and question, but I'm having a very hard time finding any of the old threads and results on SAU about this and other skyline forums aren't much help either. Even google search results aren't yielding any solid information. What I want to know is, how do the rb25 s1/2 HKS 256 8.8 / 264 9.0 "drop in" cams compare to Tomei 256 8.5 / 256 8.5 pon cams as far as boost response is concerned ?? I currently use the poncams and I'm wondering if I install a set of the hks or even just a hks exhaust cam, can I gain a little more mid range and peak without loosing any response... The only sort of info I have been finding is people speculating about a set up they "know of" or "a mates car used these and made heaps of power"... Obviously a before and after dyno comparison on a same car, same dyno & same day with the two different brand of cams would be ideal but I highly doubt that info is out there.. My set up is s1 rb25 with HKS 2835 pro S .87a/r internally gated on e85 making 470whp on 24psi Any links of help is greatly appreciated lads [emoji1365]
