  1. Ah yeah thats true, clutch i'll just wait till it goes i'm not fussed about that because i know it will need doing, for under $2k i was just talking about the turbo setup. Wheels/tyres/brakes suspension are another story and another budget. With a bit of luck i'll have some Rays Sebring 17x8 & 17x9 wheels with federal 595-ss 215 front and 255 rear soon, everything else will be up to the job just focusing on the turbo setup at present. Car also has had all front end bushes replaced with polyurethane, already have stiffer springs in and think i'm going with KYB monotube shocks. Cheers mate!
  2. Yeah fair enough mate, i know i'll come in well under 2k and thats with the 3" dump pipe new exhaust etc, injectors i'll pay aroud $150 and same again for ECU and then i'm done? at around $1200 - $1300?
  3. VB- I'm not hunting too much power at all, anywhere around 160rwkw i'm happy but i will keep going until maybe 180 - 200rwkw. Not after any crazy power at all. So the parts i have planned out, do they seem okay so far? I'm not looking to spend $2k on a VLT kit when i can get parts that i know are good, from friends/new for less than that.
  4. Thanks for the help with this. There aren't any decent VLT conversions around that i can see at the moment, for under $2000. So i have decided to go with: Stock cast iron t3 manifold = $150 R33 cermaic bearing T3 turbo = $200 3" custom dump pipe = $220 FMIC w/ piping = $350 How does that sound so far? Still have to sort out some injectors/ecu/rest of exhaust. Cheers.
  5. Shane_180sx how many k's on your engine? Thats impressive! Thankyou for the help, i'll keep my eye out for a vl turbo kit on calais turob, r31 skylineclub and eBay. Are the 'monsta' eBay products terrible/going to break or are they still usable?
  6. Okay cheers mate i'll keep an eye out for that. If i do choose to get the parts together myself would the R33 T3 be okay?
  7. Hey all, I've been on these forums for a few years, and have now finally bought myself an R31 aus delivered. sedan, series III with 220 000k's on the clock. Over the next few months i would like to get the parts together for a basic turbo conversion. I'm not chasing any huge power at all, this is for the fun as much as it is to learn about forced induction. What am i looking for is advice on how to do this properly and with a low budget. Would ~$1000 - ~$1200 see the car with a turbo setup? More than happy to buy online/second hand whatever i need. A few questions: 1. My friend has an R33, he has offered me his stock T3 turbo with stock wastegate (7psi?) would this be okay on the RB30? 2. Would i be better to buy a second hand cast iron turbo manifold or buy an 'eBay Special' manifold? http://cgi.ebay.com.au/HOLDEN-VL-CALAIS-RB...=item5193b07dd5 Something like this, though i have heard monsta products can be rubbish. 3. Can i use the stock ECU for the time being? Or is a turbo ECU a necessity? 4. I am unsure on the oil lines i will need, as i have heard that the series II RB30 blocks have the taps already in the block? 5. Will compression be an issue? Any light shed on these unknowns would be great, Thanks, Anthony.
  8. My mate put 20x8.5's (dolce's spew) on his r33 with a 225/30R20 and looks like balls IMO
  9. Loving this build mate, i am out to do a similar task soon - show that you can get a decent track/drift/weekend car on a tight budget. Keep up the great work.
  10. Hey mate really nice car, Good to see someone from canberra!
  11. Haha this is awesome, thanks very much iseekool for the info. Some of the less important features are half the reason i'm swapping from Commodores to Imports .. they are so much more thought out and better planned, and much more 'engineered' if you get what i mean. Cheers!
  12. That's awesome thanks mate, just what i wanted to hear! So i shouldn't have too much trouble finding an R34 GT-T manual with safety options?
  13. Hey, I have been reading on here alot over the last 6 months or so. I am looking to buy an R34 GT-T 4 door in the next year, and i'm wondering what the safety options were. Looking at import websites they seem to often have an air bag but nothing more. Were dual front air bags and ABS brakes an option? Are 4 door GT-T with these safety options hard to come by? Thanks, Anthony.
  14. G'day, my mate has an r33 gts and has found cheap TEIN coilovers for an r33 gtr, will they fit his gts? Thanks.
  15. hey mate check out a forum called j u s t c o m m o d o r e s will get all the info on the clubby you could imagine. Cheers.
  16. Thanks for the help here guys. Seems i might stay with the VS for a bit longer. I am on my p's but i'm in canberra so i can drive whatever i like, if i wanted a turbo i could afford buying it, but i couldnt afford the petrol haha. I've done a CAI and exhaust on my vs, as well as kyb/pedders suspension with whiteline polyurethane bushes throughout, its only on 175000k's so i guess i'll keep her the bit longer. Oh, its got a 3.45 open centre diff. in it at the moment. Thanks again.
  17. Thanks for the advice mate, and taking the time to reply. My commodore only weighs 1300kg . not too bad really, i've put alot (probably too much) money into making it handle well and it does compared to a stock commodore, but prob still handles as well as a stock r33. i want it to perform and be decent on petrol if i can. dont give a crap what it looks like haha. Cheers again champ.
  18. Hey guys, just signed up and was hoping someone could help me. At the moment i have a 5 speed series 2 vs commodore, putting out around 165fwkw and maybe 120ish rwkw i am thinking of selling it and going for an N/A r33 skyline. I was hoping someone could tell me about the suspension setups, diff, gearbox clutch, engine, fuel efficiency and just anything about them, how they respond to different modifications how people like them and if anyone has gone from a commodore to a skyline, has any opinions or anything Any help would be great, Thanks, Anthony.
