That'd be Matt's wouldn't it? Gold BBS wheels? She was mine, I miss her! I think the engines out for a full re-build... Again....

Well done guys! All us 4wd guys needed some more wet stuff to help look after the tyres! The Evo's really seem to excel then, Brown/Locker get that one of theirs going nicely! It seems they haven't set the final results yet? I heard there was at least 2 protests against guys in the top 10? Can anyone confirm how its going? By reading leg 5 standings, we're; 11th outright 4th in class 1st in category Am I reading it right? Anyone doing rally of Bernie?
-
Yes, R.I.P John. Without volunteers and visionaries like him our sport would be alot poorer than it is today. My sincerest condolences go to his family and friends.

Yeah thanks! We were stoked with the result too! We tuned it @ 1.3, made around 300 RWKW, but turned it down to 1.2 and fattened up the fuel map to keep it alive and keep the exhaust temps down, so was really probably making around 280 RWKW. Feels like every bit of it though when the calls are "250m, straight over crest, 450, straight over crest, 100, turn left 2!!!! Great fun! I reckon there should be some excellent sideways footage and laying big smoothies off the line around!

Well, another year done! - The food at the Jailhouse Grill in Lonnie was good too! There's a few references to our car on this thread (blue R34 V-spec II - #925). Anyone get any photos? We were taking it really easy in Prologue because we didn't want to start behind the Glenney/Herridge/Rooklyn guys because they drag sh*t all over the road! So I think we kicked off 47th on day one, had a terribly slow day one getting used to the car (we finished it 2 weeks before the event started), jumping to 27th I think? Day 2 saw us gel better and get the big girl honkin, day 3 was awesome south of Hobart (even managed to tag a spun Suby!), day 4 is long and hard for the driver/nav to stay concentrated, so we made a couple of mistakes in the afternoon but kept her on the black stuff, and day 5 was as always great, with the only wet weather seen from 40 kays into Arrowsmith stage onwards. We finished 11th outright I believe, beats Brocky and Herridge!, pretty good I reckon given the very minimal mods we did! (We were going to enter it as an N1 but time and cost didn't allow it - a genuine N1 oil cooler kit is something like 11G! - you have to run the real thing). So we just entered it as normal V-spec II, with mods of Power FC, exhaust, Teins in Fulcrum spec, boost at 1.2 bar. She performed better than I ever expected! Needs bigger brakes though! We we were really hoping for a lot more wet weather, so we could have pushed earlier. As it was, we really had to conserve the tyres, on day 4 & 5 especially! It was good to see the scrutineers paying more attention this year to tyres, insisting some were changed by the front runners, and in turn promoting teams who were looking after their tyres further up the field. That really is a huge part of success in Targa I reckon. Cannot wait 'til next year now!!!!!

Is This R32 Gtr At The Right Price?
Marlin replied to djrice's topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
I still don't think a v-spec or v-spec II is worth more than 10% more than a standard GTR, there's just not enough changed to command a premium. If it's an N1, I think thats a totally different story! I sold a mint genuine 32 N1 for over $50G a couple of years back, but I think that car wouldn't pull over 35G or so now? The real problem with gtr's is that mod parts are just so readily available and cheap now, that virtually anyone can go and mod one to be easily better than whatever the factory ever released, and taht takes the "exclusivity" factor away from them. It was a different story even just a few years ago, when everything was hard/expensive to get. That's why I think only cars that were genuinly built for some form of motorsport will be collectable given time (ie. N1), and only then if they're left standard. Just my opnion..... -
Why front wheel drive? Manufacturing - cheaper/easier. Packaging - easier/more spacious/lighter. It's not neccessarily a bad thing though if done right - ever driven a DC2 Type R Integra? Great fun!

I've just spent 2 weeks looking for a friend at 32 GTRs is Brissy to buy. The best one available now is a silver 1994 model, with a hideous set of polished wheels (18" Lowenharts?), at Newfarm I believe. I checked it out, and it's a good car, showing around 120k and DAILY driven by a slightly older guy. It got a power FC/injectors/exhaust etc..... The only thing wrong I could say is it has (in my opinion) had a right rear quarter replaced, but a really professional job. The sills and strut towers etc are really good/unmarked. I think he was chasing 24ish? The only reason we didn't get it was it was a little over my friend's budget. But we looked at every single one in Brisbane, and this is easily the best. ALL the others were polished turds.

Can Someone Tell Waht Time I *should* Be Running
Marlin replied to Lazy-Bastard's topic in Motorsport Discussion & Builds
The pros say whatever you gain in the 60ft in time, you can double at the end. So if you gain .2 in the 60, you should be runnin a 13.7 through the traps. -
Theo could help you with the contacts and pro/cons of setting a dry sump up, as he's had one for ages on his GTR, ands revved it past 11 grand on a standard crank with no worries. He'd be MORE than happy to talk to you. His # is 0418 742 486. He mounted his pump where the air con pump was, with the tank (15 odd litres) behind the front bar on the left (keep in mind he's a drag racer and didn't have to allow for weight over the fronts causing more understeer) - for circuit I'd be inclined to run it further back in the car, the boot if it's practical/legal?

Is This R32 Gtr At The Right Price?
Marlin replied to djrice's topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
It would need to be an exceptional car, no accident history etc of coarse! I reckon a great 32 is still worth that, as I got that for mine and reckon I shoulda got more, as I had the sh*t5 at the time and sold it to the first guy that made an offer. But there is just so many out there now, we picked up a REALLY nice one for a mate yesterday for 19G, no accidents, (perfect sills and everything) with a bit of gear (cooler/inject/N1's etc) just a little clear coming off on the rear spoiler. So, it would have to be a really good car to command that price. -
Replied via PM........... I reckon they looked good!

??? It states: "This calculator esitmates your quarter mile elapsed time (ET) when given the weight of the car and flywheel or wheel horsepower. A 17% driveline loss is assumed for flywheel HP." I still reckon it's me!
-
Whats the KW - HP ratio? I've forgotten? My old 32 GTR made 303RWKW last time I raced it, and it ran 11.135 @ 128mph. Isn't that about 430 rwhp? The calc said I needed 491 rwhp? Am I just a hell of a driver or what????!!!!!
-
it was my mouthguard comment, and as I said no threat was intended. I post this and now spot 8 people waiting with baited breath for a reply!!!!

Wicked Theo! Thanks mate! I'm checking the flights now! I'll call you when I've booked them.... thanks again man. I was planning to go to Sydney on the 25th for the Origin, maybe I'll go a little earlier and make a time of it! It'll also depend on if I'm sick of looking at GTR's after sitting in the crazy seat of the 34 at Targa Tas for 6 days this month!
-
Hell yeah! That'd be great to see! Prob worth goin to Sydney to see it! Theo, Mark, can you garuntee I'll see that if I spend my last $200 on a return airfare to Syd?
-
Sweet.... When is Sydney?
-
I understand and in some way agree with a couple of your points, but do you REALLY expect him to (and would YOU) voluntarily highlight a tyre change, when other factors have obviously come into it as well? It'd be a tough call to openly state that you've had to go away from a sponsors product to go faster. Witness inumerable cases of professional race teams not using their sponsors products in all forms of motorsport...... Would Peter Brock tell us if he found that his Mobil sponsored car made another 30hp and ran cooler using Castrol oil products? - Me don't think so! At the end of the day it's not mandatory to utilise your sponsor's product, it's simply a name on the car. Please don't mistake my "mouthguard" statement as a threat, it wasn't meant to be, it was simply a method I'd be tempted to use if I was in his position, having to deal with people constantly trying to chop the poppy tree down! I can't/wouldn't speak for him. I can understand some people's reaction to the way he can act at meets as i've witnessed it myself, but remember we're all different, and deal with stress and competition in different ways. Life would be pretty boring if we were all the same! Me? I love the way he gets all wound up, it adds to the atmosphere!
-
Mate, what is your f'n problem???!!! Oh, you're a drag racer - that right! (No offence meant to anyone else, just this bloke ) In my opinion the guy's found the limit of a product and obviously wants to keep improving/developing his car whilst a major sponsor developes a product to compliment the setup (I imagine/speculate/heard that Theo's helping them??) - Exactly what Theo's post "FEDERAL + ET STREET = 9.359 @ 153.01" above means - I dunno? I can't help but think you've got some serious personal issue with Theo (it's been well enough publicised), given the way you seem to take small snips at him - see the HKS Mini Jam thread! Get over it champ, or even better go and see him personally (tip - wear a mouth guard) and sort it out! I'm sick of lookin at useless jealous posts from you! The sooner you realise that your only messing around with a slow car by comparison, therefore not even figuring on the radar of the truly fast guys, the better! Stop carrying on like a tool. Note* Been searching for a WOMBAT smilie but can't find one.........
-
It has become blatantly obvious that unfortunately Federal do not at this time make a tyre to run 9.35 on. This DOES NOT mean they aren't a well-priced compromise tyre for a genuine street driven car that can also run fast times at the strip. This shouldn't be something for Federal to be ashamed of, they DO go well at the strip (to a limit), but maybe have an issue with 1000hp and 1500kg? I have heard however that they are working on a more dedicated strip tyre? Anyone confirm this?
-
I had these exact rims on my GTR, I'm passing this link onto a mate who's chasing a set for his now - are they available? For the record, I banged 2 up on my car (slight incident - Turbo Drive @ Gabba!) and was quoted $4,700 EACH to replace! - Lucky I found some more in Japan!
-
-
If you've got or can find a GTS wheel in good nick, I've got a GTR horn button in immaculate condition if you like? GTS wheels are identicle and more common and you should be able to find a neat one easier? Just a thought?
-
Good work Theo, must be a big relief for you guys to achieve a time you know the the car's capable of! Was there anything specifically you did to drop the time? Looking at the times, if you can get the 60ft down to what some of the other guys in the 9's have, you'll be getting awfully close to a 9.0! Congrats!
