  1. Well boys, this S13 thing has started rolling for me. I've found a race/rally only combatible 1996 180SX thats screaming for a strip and rebuild! 5 grand will see my arse in it, and there's plenty of things already on it that can either be sold to fund the project or kept aside for use at tarmac track days (read: HKS suspension etc). Just need to take a look at it underneath to make sure it's not a rusty dog and she'll be comin home with me!
  2. Thanks mate, I'll keep my eyes open for it.
  3. Then tell me more grasshopper? Is this one for sale or you teasin? And yeah, full proper cages increase your confidence level immensly! lol... without one I don't reckon I'd find myself in the nav seat across the top of "The Sideling" into the morning sun on the edge of a cliff at 270 kays in the 34 at Targa! PPHHWWOOAAAWWWWW lol
  4. Sorry Roy, I wasn't clear enough... I was meaning Proflex purely for a dirt rally setup, as road style coil overs simply won't cop the punishment. Certainly if the car was built solely for circuit racing it could be built a little cheaper with more commonly available components. Maybe I was running off on my own tangent a little, as I'm more interested in serious tarmac rallies and dirt action.
  5. Yeah Roy, that's what i meant too mate... no harm intended. I'd love to use an S13 for dirt rally as well, and it's like 6G juuust for a set of Proflex. Then it's cage, seats, harnesses, etc etc you know the deal. All of a sudden you're lookin at 30 grand.... for an S13!
  6. Ditto.... show me master?
  7. The retailers I spoke to all had good reasons why you would not go for a bike helmet if being used purely in a car. I got really pissed last night and can't remember ONE of them though! lol
  8. From very recent (yes, searched and bought one), you'll need to spend at least 15 grand to land a good Evo IV RS from Japan. Whilst they're a great little buzz box, I don't believe they're really an ideal circuit car, not if ease of and cheapness of repairs or modifications is a priority. Keep in mind, the dirt rally guys are mostly steering clear of this style of older car now (including WRX's etc) because parts are just becoming too rare and expensive these days to enable running them cost effectively.
  9. Will everyone stop using CHAMP please! It's drivin me nuts!
  10. Hmmm, I've been looking for a similar style of vehicle for some fun weekend motorsport. Since selling the GTR money pit I've been hanging out for some wheel time. I've settled on finding a nice SR powered S13 of some type, reason being that all S13's are now homologated by CAMS. I can see that with a bit of forethought, 2 distinct setups could be achieved relatively simply, one for circuit/tarmac racing, and another (albeit with big $ uprights) for dirt rallying. I've toyed with the idea for years of doing an SR20 powered R32, I reckon it'd be a great car, but it closes the door on competing in any form of championship.
  11. I personally use a Sparco open face. I find it excellent because; a. It's light weight, important if your wearing for long periods (carbon/kevlar composite) b. I choce an open face for ease of on/off as i wear glasses and navigate in rallies, so it's on and off alot. c. I also like the open face deign as it keeps you a little cooler and reduces fogging off my specs. d. My model had a pre-installed captive nut for the likes of Peltor/Terraphone intercom systems. e. It has a fire-retrdant Nomex cover for the chin strap (as well as all internal lining/padding), in case the worse was to happen in the middle of a rally stage. I can't remember the model number, but I paid around $950 for it 3 years ago. As for rating it, I never even think about it (ie doesn't annoy me), so it must be good, so how about a 9/10?
  12. When you manually engage the compressor via bridging the terminals, is the air cold? I ask because if the system has no gas, the clutch won't be allowed to engage.
  13. Now THIS is what more SAU guys should be doing with your 'lines! This is for sale by the way.... only driven by little old lady)
  14. Well done Should serve you well.
  15. All R32 GTRs have finned covers, unless they're late '93 or '94 models, which run a plain non-finned cover similar to a non v-spec R33.
  16. Yeah apparently the council's drains were blocked. And I can tell you his Mrs is NOT happy. All the walls and doors in the house have swollen up.The council said they don't wanna know about it either!!!
  17. The load you're talking about is really quite a light load. Any 6 cylinder RWD car or mid size 4WD can easily hand that load. It's not until you're upwards of 2000kg and towing long distances do you have to really think about the vehicle. And then you just cannot beat a large 4WD. Long wheelbase, full chassis, heavy, torquey engines = good tow vehicle.
  18. Must agree, excellent if you're doing any distance. You do need a custom towbar for big loads though as they have no chassis as such. We've towed both a bug eye STi and an R34 GTR around 20,000 klms, without one hassle. Will cruise on 120-130 k's no prob with the GTR on the back. And the best things is, on long trips, the co-driver just reclines in the captains chairs and watches TV just like your lounge room. Excellent vehicle.
  19. Maybe... but they're just a 4cyl Camry in drag (unless you're talking about the first front-drive Celica SX liftback, they're excellent but getting on now). At least the 4AGE Corolla's have some pedigree and racing history. And don't go bringing up Millen Pikes Peak racing Celicas!
  20. Yeah I liked SPEED too (maybe because my GTR was in it!! lol), more for the quality images and feel than anything else. It was certainly not a publication you could hope to actually learn anything from though with regard to modding. It was the Mitsubishi 3000GT of car mags, looked great, but not much substance.
  21. I was of the understanding you get jammed for insurance with any rotor? Even non-turbos? I've been wrong once before though. Beware, rotors aren't cheap to run or repair either.
  22. A 20 to 25 grand 32 would be a silly buy in my opinion if this turned out an honest car negotiated to around 30 grand. http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/in...=150115&hl= Hey, I love my 32's and have owned GTR's but they're just getting so old, which is not good if you're like alot of us on here who like to keep them looking and driving brand new. No GTR deserves NOT to be treated like the king it is.
  23. Yeah gotta agree, "Rolla's are pretty much bomb proof, go well enough, and resales excellent. If he wants something with a more sporty image, you'll be getting an older car but I would choose an N14 Pulsar Q or SSS (SR20DE) or an ealier Twin Cam Corolla. And, a front driver can let him master clutch/shifting/heel-toe etc without him wanting to be sideways everywhere like most young guys. It may keep him alive longer.
  24. Yeah neither do I. But it pricked my ears up because of the cost. Apparently these particular carts are no longer running anywhere officially, so Jason's been buying them up just to run a series in Tas. Apparently they're cheep as chips to run and maintain.... just thought I'd mention it
