  1. I cant help too much without seeing the car/amount of oil leaked etc- but imo opinion basically any car of that age will have some oil lying around, and if it doesnt its usually just a sign the owner has cleaned it up to make it seem like it doesnt.
  2. Haha, thats a killer set up to run on the street, That sort of set up would land you a defect very quick smart where i live (sux for me!) I second what you said about the cops though, i have only had good experiences with them. If you dont act like a smart ass and be as honest as necessary they seem to treat you with respect- I know over the years they have let me off for tons of things that i should have been fined/lost license for.
  3. Its definitely very illegal to have it straight through- does anyone know the penalty involved? Rumor is its a pretty damn nasty fine. My cat is just an xforce 3' high flow job, heard they arent the best but my 33gtst is pretty stock- aiming for 200rwkw so it should cover that.
  4. keep hearing that you guys get it good over there, maybe i need to move lol. In all seriousness though i thought my car wasnt that loud- i thought it would be slightly louder than legal- but it turns out it was 102db in the epa test- know i got get it under 90.. Also the policing and laws have changed heaps over here, when i was on my p's there was much less police which meant less pull overs. The amount of rbt's, drug buses and highway patrol that gets around now has to be ten fold on what it was 7 years ago or so.
  5. Definitely check it out, i know after driving a few they are bloody good cars for that price. And yeah, at $550 you could probably get most if not all of it back by wrecking it and selling the parts.
  6. Maybe with mega old cars man, but i wouldnt say an auto is any harder to deal with at all!
  7. that was 10-4's pick mate- and a good one imo. Not too sure about the auto in the 31, but the vls auto (whilst being really long geared in first) was a tough piece of gear. Imo the pick of the bunch is that r31. Usually a good guide to the condition of an auto box is to sit in neutral with your foot on the brake, and select between drive/neutral/reverse. If it takes ages to select and is rough whilst doing so, its usually a good sign of a fckd auto. My vr's box went at like 380k and it took about 2 or 3 seconds to engage reverse from neutral haha. Eventually it got stuck in first gear and called it a day
  8. Forgot to mention the thefts.. both the 31 and vl are easy targets. My brother in law had a 31 5 speed for about 6 months before it got pinched and burned out.. c unts.
  9. yeah mate, i drove a few 31 na manuals when i was younger, and they FELT deceptively fast haha. I suspect that all the young rev head p-platers have reduced the numbers by planting them into trees and poles etc- much the same as the vl.
  10. No doubt a few 14s are in order then when i get to the track. Havent done much launch practice cause im too scabby to thrash my tyres haha.
  11. Thats good though- i should have learned by now to keep it on a track!
  12. Awesome buy there! imo the rb30s are worth that alone.
  13. Engine mount is definitely something that needs doing, and if i remember right, one going usually stresses the other causing it to break. As far as the older cars go, i think they are probably better to work on in a lot of cases, the lack of electronics makes things easy. Only problem i could see with SOME of the older ones is getting your hands on parts. Still, imo the pulsars are really solid, and you definitely wont have a problem getting stuff at the wreckers!
  14. Definitely- the only reason i got pulled over in mine was cause i didnt see them at a set of lights and gave it a bootful. They pulled me over saying they thought it was loud, i tried to tell them it was just me driving like a dick, but i still got an epa notice. All that said they were very reasonable, and my 33 does have a big cannon, which they know isnt standard. I just expected when i got the car that i would get trouble as i have heard the whole stigma with police and imports.
  15. I hate the old lasers, and newer ones too lol. No seriously though they are decent cars reliability wise, i just hate the look and the ford badge lol Engine mount is nothing mate, i flogged out both on my vr commodore back in the day and me and my old man did em both plus full service over the space of a day, with lots of bourbons lol. I cant remember the exact procedure being so long ago, but i remember jacking the engine up with a regular car jack to get at them/replace them. Plus i dont think the parts were very dear either. I gotta say if i was in your position though, i would prefer something like a ke corolla or datsun sunny, i just love seeing the old beasts getting around.
  16. Definitely suggest the wanted to buy section if you havent posted in there too mate.
  17. Have either of you blokes ran the 1/4 with the 190-200rwkw. Im currently doing said mods in thread, and plan on running around on the stock turbo for a while until i can afford hiflow and ecu tune. Im guessing it would be 13s?
  18. I cant speak from experience because i havent imported anything, but i cant see myself forking out $20k odd on a car without seeing it in the flesh and driving it etc. Imo the gtr is such a complicated car that you really should know the ins and out of the car (know what to look for etc) before you buy. When i buy one (hopefully soon) i am going to hit up some expert sau members to come along and help me look at the car so i dont pick a lemon. Im not knocking those who have imported the car themselves, obviously you can still get excellent gtr's from Japan without driving it first, its just that with that sort of money, i believe its quite a risk you are taking.
  19. Yeah definitely see where your coming from, but my main concern is the police giving me not only fines, but sending me back over the epa pits etc AGAIN haha. This is what has prevented me buying a fmic etc, because i did not fancy having to pull it all off and fit the stock one just as i am about to have to do with my exhaust. After seeing that an engineer certificate isnt quite as hard as i originally thought, i can go ahead and do some mods and get it certified. Btw- I really dont have a problem getting pulled over, i expect it driving a skyline to be honest. In my experience the police have always been more than fair to me.
  20. No probs mate- yeah commonwealth allowed extra repayments without additional fee- although im pretty sure that if you pay it out in full in under twelve months you get a fee of $200 odd dollars. commonwealth have never asked for security for my personal loans, and i have had my home loan with them since i was 22. I dont think they car too much about age as long as your over 18 and have good steady income with payslips. Also, im not on as much as you!
  21. Edit- I did however assume the factory items were shit, that being said, im new to having a skyline and should have put two and two together about the age of the car being the problem.
  22. Yeah- suspected as much. Thought it was probably more to do with age then power considering mine shit themselves at stock level. Also when they shit themselves its dead obvious- mine had big flat spots at 3000rpm and 4500rpm.. not the kinda thing you miss haha
  23. Yeah mate i have had a couple of personal loans over the years and my experience has been good. I have been using commonwealth bank since i was 18 or so, and i they were the first bank i got credit through. They have always been great to me, and i have been going back to the same branch for around 7 years now, and they know me personally and always go above and beyond to help me. Basically i got my first loan at 18 and bought an ss commodore, then about a year later after paying some off borrowed more and got a yamaha r6. I always went the variable rate and took the risk of the inflating interest rates, but thats entirely your choice. I got my home loan with them around 2 years ago and its always been easy to deal with them over. Also early this year my wife and i took another personal loan to pay for her to further her skills as beauty therapist, and once again they were very easy to deal with. In my experiences i have had nothing bad to say about getting loans, my only advice is to make sure your budget allows it, and to make the most of it try and overpay the repayments. If you can afford to slap even another $20-$50 a week off the loan on top of the repayments, it basically is paying it straight off the loan (without the interest) and you will get to the end of the loan much faster.
  24. I wouldnt spend the money on the coils unless you need to- having said that i havent found anyone that hasnt needed to replace them! Mine were f**ked when i bought the car, and it was stock bar a cat back when i bought it, so i dont think its got to do with the power, but rather the coilpacks being heaps of shit from the factory, plus the age of the car. I went splitfires off another sau member in the for sale section, and never looked back.
  25. It seems like a great buy to me mate! Maybe the car came out in 1.6 and 1.8- otherwise its also a high possibility that the owner f**ked up the ad.
