  1. Yeah and it tells me i need an account- f**k that. Edit- i checked tweety's link a bit further down on page 1 for the info.
  2. I put one of my r33. Its an easy direct replacement for the standard one, didnt even have to take my front bar off. Was also a $50 item, so i figured for my light street duties it would be plenty good enough. Having said that, since then i have seen plenty of users saying that they suffer nearly as badly as the 33 item from heat soak, and to not even consider them if the car will be used at the track or driven hard etc. I plan on doing a few track days in the future so i bought one of the jjr return flow stealth black fmic. The way i see it, it cost me $500 new, roughly only double what a day at the track will cost- so i think its a good investment for performance if the car is getting a rough time, plus peace of mind. I just think its probably worth really considering the fmic, especially since your user name is ausdrift.. lol.
  3. Definitely a yes on the gauge. Factory item is poo. As far as getting a tune, that's dependend entirely on your set up and car. My stockish r33 gtst is at it's limit on 10psi and gives me occasional flat spots. My next move is a retuned ecu and then I will run 12psi. General rule of thumb is that most stock cars will take small boost increases without having to remap the ecu. Every car is different, but most with r33's that I have seen are limited to 10psi without the ecu upgrade.
  4. Double post- i also didnt see mad had written back first.
  5. Spiking refers to when the desired boost level is increased momentarily. For example you set your controller to 10psi and it shoots up to 14 instead. This is a problem that a turbo car owner obviously does not want! Im sure there is more companies that produce these items other that turbotech and turbosmart, although these are the most common that i see. I can say that before i bought mine i looked around, and went on the recommendation of others and bought the turbotech one that costs next to nothing and doesnt seem to have issues with spiking. As far as the diy aspect of it goes, you seriously cant get ANYTHING easier to install. It took me seriously less than 5 minutes to put on. So ridiculously simple! Getting your target boost is the longest part of the exercise, which was done in 15 minutes or less with an allen and some driving to test it. Also there is a thread here somewhere with a diy install process, which is what i used to do it, being a noob!
  6. From what i have heard, the manual boost controller is more prone to spiking. Having said that, i have a turbotech manual controller, and it worked really well for my application. (street driven, very mild r33 gtst) It cost me $30 odd, and i wont even be looking at changing it out until i have upgraded the turbo, fuel system and ecu.
  7. Gotta get a vid while my mrs drives my car. (learning the manual- heavy as clutch, low take up) THATS a good ol crunching time I dont think its too much to worry about to be honest though mate- its just a crunch.
  8. lol- i remember beating off in the shower when i was 13, doesnt mean the same is not happening now.
  9. haha- still spun out about that, wish i had noticed the evo though! Also- Spotted a VERY nice looking 33 gtr at belmont this morning, very jealous..
  10. My mrs best friend has had one for around 3 years now. I think its got 100-120k on the clock. I have driven it a few times, and besides barely fitting in the damn thing i can say it is f**king horrid to drive. I can however say that it seems to be quite bullet proof. It got its first couple of services and hasnt been touched since. I cant believe it still kicks tbh. She treats the thing so bad, its beyond a joke. I even noticed one day that all 4 of her tyres were shredded bald, to the point of radial. I came inside and told her she needed tyres, NEEDED them and couldnt believe it hadnt killed her. I ended up ringing her older brother who is my mate, and told him about so her f**king parents would put some new tyres on it. Btw this is her second viva, the first one got written off a month after she bought it lol. IMO the car is horrible to drive, but to still be running with someone like her that owns it, they are obviously pretty tough haha. (its a manual hatch model)
  11. Serious question- do the reputable companies offer warranty to engines etc if their product fails?
  12. Awesome vids mate! I gotta admit, its almost strange seeing a skyline hammer around whilst having a v8 rumble- really cool though. Matt cant wait to see yours, ls1 in a 33 would be even better!
  13. Welcome mate. Is a very nice gtr you have yourself there. Trust you are happy with the purchase? Gotta say though, the first pic would have been so much cooler if you snapped it parked in bay 33 not 32
  14. If its an awesome deal i say go for it before its taken.. It seems like it can definitely be done, and if its too much headache you can always sell then buy the gtst item.
  15. Lol- smoking and choking everything! Poor bastards behind ya with headspins hitting telegraph poles!
  16. Lmfao!! I bet Paul didnt run a cat in his supra in fast and the furious! Seriously though, i agree with what arthur has said, but in the end it comes down to preference. Someone really needs to do a dyno run back to back with different cats to put this to rest, although i suspect the gains/losses in hp would be so little that it would just come down to different dyno runs.
  17. I dont think there is too much flow difference mate. Im assuming the car is a mild streeter, in which case i really dont think you would notice the difference between the two. As far as having your car confiscated, im pretty sure you have to be drag racing or doing burnouts etc that warrant a dangerous driving charge. In either case i can say that a decat will be the least of your worries. I think it comes down to your preference, and whether you want the peace of mind of not running a decat. For me, i just bought a hiflow because i didnt want the hassle of worrying about it. I even left it on the car when it went to the epa, and he just said it 'may' pass, but it would need engineer certificate.
  18. Very highly doubt a cop could tell you have a decat. Unless they have emissions testing equipment? Either way if you are at an epa station, you arent going to keep the decat on the car. Regardless of the method they use, they will pick you up for a gutted cat, everytime. You would have to be a complete idiot to turn up for your epa inspection with a gutted cat.
  19. This is why i bought a hiflow- i heard stories like that too. Plus i had heard the fine is huge.
  20. Plenty of people just bash it out too mate.. Although im under the impression the pipe through the middle is the better option.
  21. Tbh, i think it would come down to the officer. I have had mine sent to the epa (for noise) and the tester didnt even notice the dump pipe (it had factory front pipe though) He did however notice alot of other things lol. In my experience most cops arent too concerned until you have done something stupid in front of them (me, with my foor to the floor) or if you start being a smart arse, then they will without a doubt look for reasons. Their is however exceptions, where they will pull you over and look for anything they can. Most of the time though, the worst they can do is suspect modifications and send you out an epa notice, in which you just swap the parts back over. Also police will look for things like cannon mufflers and front mount coolers, so they can be a magnet for attention.
  22. Those lips look awesome! And i gotta say, for the price to replace it (if it did happen to come off) i would rather not put the screws in either.. double sided tape ftw
  23. That is the dilemma its self. The op is trying to decide whether a decat job (2.5 inch stock cat) is better flowing than a hi flow cat (3 inch) Also, i know the fines for a decat are suppose to be quite hefty, but couldnt you plead innocence and try to pass it off as being damaged? Unless of course you have the 2.5 inch pipe running through the middle of it, in which case its quite obvious.
