  1. The following tyres are all semi-comp road legal: Bridgestone - RE540S in 185/55/14 or 205/50/16 Dunlop - D98J in 185 & 195/60/14 or D01J in 185 & 195/60/14 or 205/50/16 Toyo - RA1 in 205/55/14 Yokohama - A032R in 185 & 195/60/14 Khumo - Victoracer V700- same kinda' sizes again...... Falken - Azenis - same again...... Have a look @ these couple of sites to check on other sizes - http://www.stuckey.com.au/ http://www.bridgestone-motorsport.de/gb/techdat_gb.htm http://www.kumhousa.com/pages/pcr/vv700.htm http://www.yokohamatire.com/04b2f.html http://www.falkentire.com/html/products/az...enis/azenis.htm Out of interest what tyres are you currently using?
  2. Sounds good John. TE37's in gold with Nitto's - awesome! T&T on the 14th? I thought AIR was offline till Jan/Feb?! Matt
  3. G'day mate, Yeah these tyres are a huge improvement on what I had. How'd the Nitto's & polishing go? Are they on & tested yet?
  4. I was talking to a few of the guys that were there @ WB with TRY09, they mentioned heading out after the meet to do the "normal stuff". Was it still running the slicks on the street? How long is it gone for? Yep Craig Thompson's Orange TTV8 Torrie ran a best (first pass of the night!) of 7.88 @ 177mph! This thing is a beast  2 x TA45 Garrett's (I think?) I'd like to see it hit the street in the trim it ran @ WB though (not likely!). Did anyone see it get waaaaay out of shape on the 2nd pass burnout!? Nearly lost it!
  5. I use to run 38psi in my Falkens. I've since had a set of RE540's fitted & was recommended to run ~30-32psi (cold) for the road. These tyres have VERY stiff sidewalls. When it come to road use it really depends on what your driving style is? Traffic light specialists would probably benefit from lower pressures (~28-30psi cold) as the extra sidewall flex "should" help with grip. Plus the ride will be a tad more comfortable. If you're more of a twisty road person then extra pressure "should" be better (36+psi cold). I'm no expert on this stuff so I could be completely wrong!? And you'll end up with lots of - :burnout:
  6. I know John (Munro) wasn't overly impressed with them (Bridgestone RE540S comp tyres), but with mega kilowatts most rubber is gunna' have trouble! I've only done a handful of klms on them but once warm WOW are they an improvement over the Falkens I had! Mind you that wouldn't have been hard From the feedback I've been getting from users of them, & retailers, they aren't too bad in the wet provided you don't do anything stupid i.e. full throttle on cold wet roads with cold rubber. My car actually feels fairly quick now I can "almost" get ALL the power down in 1st & 2nd. Total price was $1180 balanced & fitted (235/45/17 - 255/40/17) from Laurie @ Bridgestone in Gouger St. For anyone considering running these tyres get in quick! Soon only one Bridgestone dealer will be able to get them in Adelaide, & when that happens (Jan03) the prices won't be so good. Downsides – They’re noisy! They pick up every little stone & pebble on the road! They’ll probably only last me 10-20K max? I can live with that.
  7. I agree with Clint. The mechanical & general condition of the car is of more importance than what the odo shows. It could've even been wound back ex-Japan (to ~40-50k) & has since clocked back up to 150+k!!! Or it could be a genuine 152k? A decent inspection will be the telling factor. Who to see about the mechanical inspection? I'd say any of the good performance workshops around Adelaide could assist? RPM, Tilbrook's etc.
  8. Very nice mate!
  9. Ahh I C RB25DET not RB20DET. Very nice indeed.
  10. Nice numbers! What mods have been carried out, other than the obvious RB20DET transplant? Slicks?
  11. Al, I'd be guessing that Tim would want some $ for the maps, given the tuning time put into them. IMO Tim & Martin are both excellent tuners. Either one of them will get solid & reliable results. It all comes down to the time spent on the dyno/road.
  12. No prob's mate. Hopefully it'll all come together nicely for you. The RPM guys will know what you need re the Microtech adapter.
  13. Mark, The best bet is to see if SLY33 (Alan) can get you his map? As it'll be his maps (or ones very similar) that you'll want. Failing that contact the guys @ RPM here in Adelaide & see what they can do for you? Ring 08 82772266 & ask for Ivan or Tim regarding LT12 tuning. Ivan is actually a SA forum member (can't remember his alias?). Come to think of it......The best way to do this is to buy a Microtech adapter (~$75) from the guys @ RPM, you'll need one regardless if you want to access the LT12 for tuning! When you contact them to buy the adapter ask if they'll load their current RB25DET maps into it! Hey presto! All you need then is the software (no prob's there). After that's all done get the car to a decent local tuner that has a fair idea about the LT12 laptop software & you "should" be right. If you do ring RPM tell them you've been speaking to me (Matt - Burgundy GTS25t etc.) & after they gone, "oh no not something to do with him again!!! , they should be happy enough to help you out.
  14. G'day Mark, You need Tim (from RPM Performance Centre) or Martin (Donnon of HPI/Hot4s fame) to tune the LT12 mate! Pity you're up there & they're here in Adelaide What you may be able to do is get a copy of Tim's current maps & up-load them?! Tim has been improving the LT12 tuning set-up each time he does a RB25DET. He then saves the current improved tune & loads into a new LT12 on the next car he does. This way the part throttle/cruise, in fact the entire mapping is closer to spot on right from the start. If you can get him to do this for you then you only need a decent local tuner to tweak the maps slightly to suit your set-up. SLY33 & Freebaggin (both LT12 Adelaide guys) have maps that would probably suit your modification level (FMIC, more boost, exhaust/intake etc.. but still stock turbo). The logistics of getting Tim's (or one of the other guys) maps into your ECU is tricky but it could be done. My maps wouldn't be much good for your car as the bigger turbo/fuel tweaks (pump & pressure) & cam gear adjustment would be waaaay off what you need. Another more extreme solution - If you're up for a loooong drive you're more than welcome to come down to Adelaide & get the car tuned once & for all, you can stay @ my place for a few days no prob's (wife & bub won't mind ). TRP in NSW would be another Microtech tuner that should be able to get results. Isn’t Mazfix (QLD) an authorised Microtech agent? It’s a matter of finding a tuner that really knows the product. Knows how to use it, & what it can do! Re your PM's - I'll email you shortly mate (setting up a new email account atm) Oh yeah! You're not gunna' believe it but I just spent 10 days in QLD with work! Went to Willowbank on Sat' 23rd T&T. Even talked to a few SZ guys (9.9 @ 144!).
  15. Good to hear all is progressing well mate. What are your plans for hitting the strip again? Heading interstate I'm guessing? If I'm not mistaken AIR is offline to ALL until Feb next yr, due to the new management/owners, & being upgraded to ANDRA requirements. This means the Dec 7th SM is cancelled Which bums me as I was ready to run with my RE540S going on on Monday. Hopefully AIR will be back better than ever in Feb03 :uh-huh:
  16. I was @ Willowbank on the 23rd (Sat' T&T session) & watched TYR09 run a 9.9 @ 144mph. The amazing thing about this car is it ran the 9.9 @ 144 with the back end all over the track for @ least a 1/3 of it  If it can hook up it'll go much quicker! Edit - The engine in TRY09 is far from the stock RB25DET! It's a seriously modified RB26DETT (RB30 bottom end perhaps?) & it uses N2O.
  17. Top stuff Meg's A full second is a huge improvement! Gotta love those A032R's Hopefully my semi-comps will be on very soon too (before AIR Dec 7th street meet) I've got the Whiteline KCA349 kit fitted too. The car will still wheelspin but it does regain grip quicker than it ever did before I fitted the kit. Having stock shocks is a big help in the weight transfer dept'! With nil suspension mods I managed a 2.1 60'.
  18. Yeah the 540's are a track tyre, it's just that I can get them fairly cheap in comparison to other street legal comp' tyres. The options are still open though Mate I'd love a set of 275 BF Drag Radials, or Nitto’s. I take it those prices are in AUD per tyre? $440ea. Hmmm a set of the rear would be the go!
  19. Naa no concrete yet mate  On my current rubber she's a 1/4 mile burnout special. On semi-comps hopefully it'll be quick!? I need to wait till the 'toy budget' has enough in it to get some RE540's or the like. So which do you find best? Concrete or paper? Which weighs more, 100kg concrete / 100kg paper
  20. Congrats Rev Nice numbers mate.
  21. Top use of smilies mate Yeah the concert should be a ripper! I'll cya on the cruise. Matt
  22. Bug's, Yeah mate leave pass has been issued
  23. I've done ~13,000 klms in a bit over 2.5yrs (the time I've owned the car) I've done 6 or so oil changes in this time! I change my oil based on how I've used the car since the last change, or on time (months) If I changed it based on klms I wouldn't do many oil changes! Excessive? Maybe? But I'm happy knowing fresh Motul 300V is doing its best I'd say 5k/6months is a good guide in most cases. Turbo engines are very hard on oil.
  24. That's a very good question! Most failures seem to be linked to sub-systems (fuel pump, tuning issues etc...) rather than simple component failure. Rather than looking for a boost ceiling I'd prefer to know the HP limits? I know 300rwkw is achievable on standard internals, but for how long? With spot on tuning just how long will it last? No answers. Just more questions
