  1. Y33 Leopards started in 1996 were all 4AT and powered by VG20E, VG25DE, VG30E, VG30DE, VG30DD, VQ30DE and VQ30DET. You could say it was Nissan's car against the Toyota Aristos as they weighted between 1540kg - 1630kg. There was also a RB25DET version with 4WD but she weighted 1700kg!
  2. Yotis, which one the US or the JDM F31? JDM they come in VG20E, VG20ET, VG20DET, VG30DE and VG30DET. Many saw RBs and manual boxes drop in them as almost all were 4AT except the VG20E. I'll see if I can find a pic online.
  3. because it is known and sold as a Maxima in the states...do a search online. Certainly different, not a very popular car in Japan the late Leopard. But the early Leopard was, if you can still find any in good nick. Certainly worth dropping an RB26 from the one I saw at the garage. edit, was thinking of another which required modification to the firewall.
  4. I thought we already knew that, however if a turbo engine were so important to a manufacturer's specific model line up they wouldn't have given up so easily.
  5. and why post it in the Japan section and not the general?

    Whats new guys?

I also just recovered...been crook the last few days too. ps...busy early April .
  7. I have no experience with them but from what I have heard they are OK. They do specialise in MR2 sales, but I have not heard of any tuned monsters come out of that shop, I'd suppose service and mild tune they are the fine.
  8. To those who dislike the MX-5, I suggest you go and drive one and if your pouring that much money into your Skylines. How would a MX-5 be with half that money spent. Monkey, the MX-5 provides a great platform for greater things to come. As you have pointed out heaps of turboed MX-5 over in Japan. To many who question why so many new cars no longer come with a turbo engine in Japan. Simple answer behind that is, manufacturers don't need to spend the extra R&D money on the engine when there are so many tuning shops in Japan who will happily tune an MX-5, 350Z etc. Manufacturers know owner's/enthusiasts who really wants to tune a beast will be willing to spend the extra after...and would rather take the car to a specialised tuning shop with years of experience. All we can say is lucky them and unlucky us!
  9. Vol 26, 55 and 86 are all the Chasers...86 being the latest one as mentioned and the perhaps the best one to read first. I have almost all the Hyper Rev volumes and have been reading them for a number of years, Rezz has seen my full collection (I don't bother with the Honda ones...sorry). Hyper Rev is good as a guide and parts directory, but beware of the setup power output they claim. If you know your engine you'll know the list of mods on some of the setup printed will not yield xxxhp. Tuning Shops will not tell all their secrets also it's a book to help promote the shop....i.e tuning in Japan. But if you know the tuners circle and you'll know which shop knows their shit .
  10. I've had my E5 for a few years now. Bought her in 2001, then she was only 3 years old. Sourcing an immaculate, undamaged and low kilometres one is where I spent so much money, then came the tuning . When I thought I was done tuning the Evo, I started to look at Chasers but end up spending more money on the Evo. So the Evo is all that's coming home.
  11. MIC33R, Oh my bad... Question...is it a TRD version? From the badge upfront. Interior looks normal and the TRD version rear wing is? None the less, nice buy. I was going to buy a Chaser but ended up pouring too much money in mods. Well also I found out Chaser could be imported so I didn't specially have to buy one to send home. I also used to only like the series 2 lights but after a while the series 1 lights grow on you...they are both good IMO.
  12. what happened to the left blinker in the last photo?
  13. Mate, I'm fine... I just still can't understand the point of your post, talk about ignorance.
  14. geezus you guys take things serious! I may have been away from Aust a long time but I do know Aust is still full of ricers, no matter what make or model!
  15. lancers and mirages with scoops!?!?!? you obviously don't your cars either, it probably was a WRX with an aftermarket front bar. If you didn't look close enough you'd have thought the Auto Project GC8 was a R34 GT-R. I also almost bought that car. (See attachment).
  16. Correct only the Tourer V has the 1JZGTE. The Tourer V TRD Sports is even nicer, well more sportier package. Becareful not to get it mixed up with the Tourer S and Tourer S TRD Sports, they are just 1JZGE only. The good thing about the JZX100 is they made the same power in both 5MT and 4AT transmission, 280ps/38.5kgm and back in 96/09. While the Skylines saw 2 revisions in 96/01 and 97/02 still only had 250ps/30kgm (5MT) and 245ps/28kgm (4AT). Then came the R34 GTt and GT-X turbo sedan with the Neo RB25DET in 98/05 and while power was up she still lacked some torque 280ps/35kgm (5MT) and 280ps/34kgm (4AT). A revsion in 00/08 only saw improvements made to the manual with 280ps/37kgm = what the JZX90 was making back in 92/10. Course what's a few Newton-metres, if your thinking of doing some mods. But I know what I would be buying. How about the Legnum VR4, there is one selling on his board and I know a mate who is selling his as well. Released in 1996 the V6TT 6A13...4AT made 260ps/35kgm and the 5MT made 280ps/37kgm. In 1998 the 4AT model joined the manual with the same power/torque. Don't forget the EC5 Legnum VR4 dominated the performance wagon era in Japan with the Subaru Legacy, adding to the Legnum's popularity wining Japan Car of the Year in 1996-1997 in the first year she was introduced. I only know so much about the Legnums because I was going to buy one so I could fit my ski gear. My mate ended up buying one so I bought the Evo, still can fit my snowboard . The 5AT INVECS-II is so smooth and changes gears quicker than you could in the manual. At the time no tiptronic shift was faster, only the 2nd gen M3 SMG shifts quicker than the INVECS-II.
  17. As we can all see the difference between the 30 yo with the kids and the youngins. I'd quite happily drive a Prius if they didn't cost so much, or a Estima Hybrid if they were offered here. I would have bought one, if I was still living in Japan. Even the 2.4L petrol ain't bad, there is a turbo kit available for them. But a little on the pricey side. http://www.mzspeed.co.jp/zeus2002_2/ENG_01.html Accord Wagons are always popular if your keeping with the J-scene.
  18. Delica Spacegear is actually a good suggestion, or any People mover. It's for the family and they have heaps of space, high wheel clearance for the offroad stuff, turbo diesel is good and good equipment level. How about the Oydessy? No matter how good the engine is, or bodykit you can throw on a Stagea I still dislike the Stagea styling. The M35 is a different story.
  19. I wouldn't buy an Evo for a family car, unless your kids are still young. While the CT now has a longer wheelbase the CP I feel is only just OK. Perhaps I sit rather back which doesn't leave much room behind except for a small Japanese girl or young kid. If you still want performance a JZX100 Chaser, is what I'd be looking at. A R34 Skyline sedan would also be nice if you want Skyline. edit: oppps $30K isn't going to stretch that much, a Mazda6 I feel is a pretty good buy.
  20. I have 2 questions to ask: 1.) Will this car remain street legal? 2.) Why the hell do you need so much power for the street? edit: My appologies ignore my above question, obviously it won't be street legal!
  21. The TD05 can make just as much as the 2835, difference is one is pushing 1.5 bars and the other 1 bar at about 400ps. I know because I was going buy a 2835 but decided to work the factory turbo to it's limits. The TD06-20G L2 is on par with the 2835. Next upgrade either a TD06-25G or GT30 Pro...also about the same but the TD06-25G has prove itself time after time for my motor. Basically choose the turbo that works well for your motor, see what turbo the tuning shops have used to get the best results.
  22. what year is it? hard to tell...looks a little faded I reckons it's KV2, KR4 has a tinge of champange in it.
  23. great pics, how do you keep her so clean...i.e. in the engine bay? though I admit I've not given my engine bay the once over for a long time.
  24. I just explained this over in PF, else there should be a wealth of knowledge already here. I'm sure most Japan members are sick to death in answering unless you have a specific question. Sorry can't give any help for Auctions in Tokyo, but USS will be the best Auction to work with linking up all Auctions around Japan. edit, forgot the link http://pforums.company-hosting.com/forums/...n#post839303068
