  1. i thought HKS had different trims etc as well. I don't really know what a flowmap means... or how to read them. Is there a site on the net that you'd recommend me reading? I'm interested to learn what it all means, likewise, i don't know much about A/R's end Trims either... All i know is bigger turbo gives more power topend and less bottom end, small turbo spools quicker and gives more low -mid range power, but runs out of puff at the top end. That's about as far as my turbo knowledge takes me
  2. Just wondering about turbo hp ratings and what they actually mean. For instance, a HKS GT3040 is rated at 500hp. Where is that measured from? And aren't there cars that produce over 500hp with this turbo? Thanks Andrew
  3. so i spose if you have flames coming out the back, it means you don't have a CAT... and if a cop sees it then you're stuffed!
  4. wouldn't that bugger up ya CAT Convertor?
  5. oh ok... so is that 800hp you said for RB30 cylinder pressure?
  6. gee... that's not bad hey! Compared to $2400 for carrillo's... and 800hp is plenty! So is that like 133hp per rod(6*133=800, almost)? Or is that 800hp for 8 rods, so 100hp each?
  7. how much do you reckon machining is gonna cost?
  8. the power fc that removes the airflow meter is the djetro model. I don't think it's available for the gtst's... i think it's a GTR thing, i could be wrong though. And i think closed loop is an emissions thing. I also thought it was for economy, but was told otherwise... so maybe someone can clarity that. Cheers, Andrew
  9. might be worth starting a new thread in SDU, SAU and other Performance forums, especially ones that VL Turbo owners read. Andrew
  10. oh, so i'm a Ho now am I??? hehe... what sort of discount do you reckon we'd be able to swing?
  11. the RB30 rods will be longer due to the longer stroke... i presume if you use RB26 rods and pistons in an RB25 that the capacity would become 2.6litres...
  12. oh... well in that case you're right there! i'd rather pay the extra $700 for the quality... what about pistons? Wiseco or JE?
  13. yeah i'm interested in the chevy ones too... i think that carillo rods are a bit beyond what i'm aiming for. I'm going for plenty of low-mid range power rather than all out topend. And once you pass the 320rwkw or so, the gearbox and other parts start to need looking at and i can't afford to do that!
  14. carrillo's just seem a huge step up... i mean there's the 350rwkw and then there's like the carrillo's at 600rwkw... we need to find a 450rwkw rod. 350rwkw is easy to reach with a 3lt block and 450 is a happy medium, high enough power to be very reliable, but not so high that you are spending mega bucks
  15. good thread, i'm hoping i can get my HKS stuff tuned somewhere, but if not then i'll be looking for a new computer as well. Everyone says Power FC as they are tried and true, but it seems like there are a lot more australian computer for the same price that have way more features. Surely tuning is tuning... and once you know how to tune fuel, ignition and timing maps, wouldn't it be the same on all computers?! maybe my ignorance of tuning is showing through...
  16. sounds good to me! $2400 is fairly pricy, especially as i'm not going for 600hp at the wheels... what do you reckon the chances are of getting them under $2k? maybe those chevy ones will tie me over till i need more power, then i can pull out the rods and put in better ones. Then there's the other side of the coin. $900 for the chev ones or $2400 for the carrillo ones, it's gonna cost me $1500 to do the change over down the track anyway, even if i do most of the work myself! 600hp at the engine... what would that translate into rwhp?
  17. quite possibly... should see how many people want a set of Carrillos for an RB30 and ask for discount unless sydneykid has some ideas?? *wink wink*
  18. yeah $2400 for rods seems HEAPS!!! i'm looking for around 300rwkw, but would like to build the engine to cope with 600hp at the wheels as well incase further down the track i decide to upgrade the gearbox and go for big power! are the chevy rods fully prepped, eg forged/linished/shotpeened or what ever is done to make strong rods? cos maybe you could get those rods and have them strengthened further... like chryotuff
  19. How's your venture with the rods going? I'm interested to know as well cos i have an RB30 block and crank sitting in the garage doing nothing... i don't have rods or pistons so i also need to know what specs i need! Cheers, Andrew
  20. no idea... all i know is the car is more fun when set closer to sharp!!! lol
  21. when i changed it on my car, i noticed that boost hit much harder when set to sharp. When on mild it seems to allow a bit of wastegate creep...
  22. which area are you from inark? i'm around the camberwell/hawthorn area
  23. Well... just remember who has the 18 inch AVS Model 7's
  24. Smiley face... there is a smiley in there.... usually indicates a joke! Just to clarify, there is a smiley in there so it WAS a joke... :uh-huh: :uh-huh: :uh-huh:
  25. hahaha... i've tried to have sex on those wheels.... then i realised having sex on ya own is called a wank, so i gave up and went inside to watch tv -- Andrew
