yeah... i'd like to do the RB30 bottom end swap as well. Not so much to make 600hp... but to give more responsive low end power (i got a big turbo). Also good for times when you need a quick hit of power to duck through traffic! Andrew

this thread is a good read. I've got a big turbo as well (i think a HKS3040, have to have a better look when i put it up on the hoist to do my clutch). It doesn't really produce much before 4000rpm... I need to find a way to get it to spool faster as the car is a bit sluggish off boost... means it's harder to zip past someone unless i wait for the boost to wind up, and then i'm over the speed limit. i've been looking at having a play with the RB30/25 hybrid... the extra half litre will spool it faster what about RB25DE cams? are they hydraulic? cos i've seen in a few threads that they have bigger lift/duration (sorry, i don't know shit about cams, just read they are a good upgrade for the RB25DET). Cheers, Andrew

AFM Cleaning and de-meshing, the popup book version.
GiJOr33 replied to Sciby's topic in General Maintenance
they certainly do!!! i've just picked up an OS Twin Plate clutch... so hopefully no more slippage. I'm looking at getting one of those Filters... i don't have an AFM at the moment, running MAP. But as i am in melbourne and there isn't anyone to tune HKS FCON's properly, i'm thinking of changing over to a Power FC and Z32 AFM -
Twin Plate Clutch install... Help
GiJOr33 replied to GiJOr33's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
the OS Giken clutch has got it's own Flywheel... i'll get that machine to smooth out the surface. i'm just having trouble finding out what thrust bearing i need... I've got a couple of prices ranging from $31 from nissan, to $51 from a bearing company... i've no idea what the difference is, or if the factory clutch bearing will be fine! any ideas? and i've got 3 people helping with the clutch install up on an car hoist thanks andrew -
Twin Plate Clutch install... Help
GiJOr33 replied to GiJOr33's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
well each clutch plate is about 3.9mm each so i think there's still a bit left on it... my car is only rear wheel drive too... but got some good power (don't know exactly... needs to get it tuned on the dyno). It shreds standard clutches... this one in it now just spins to redline when you rip it to second gear... I'll see how it goes... if it doesn't hold then i'll sell it to someone looking for a rebuild, or someone with less power! I think it should be sweet though! -
Twin Plate Clutch install... Help
GiJOr33 replied to GiJOr33's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
what's the overall thickness meant to be? i think it's in good condition, i'll get the flywheel machine, but the clutch plates look like they are pretty good. where would i get a thrust bearing from? Thanks Andrew -
Twin Plate Clutch install... Help
GiJOr33 replied to GiJOr33's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
cool... thanks for the tip My mate has an engine jack as well as the car hoist... He's done plenty of clutches... i just thought there might be some cheap parts that would be worth replacing while the geabox is open... the clutch came with a flywheel, should i get that machined? and it's off an R32 GTR which i've been told is the same as an R33 GTS25t! Thanks again... Andrew -
New Intercooler is IN.. Woooohoooo
GiJOr33 replied to Jay95R33's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
ahhh... well i don't have one! and my car feels sluggish at low revs... here's a pic of my engine bay... i need something to pipe some cool air to that fat filter/intake pipe! -
I've picked up an OS Giken Clutch from one of the boys on this forum... and all i need to do now is install it! I have a mate who has a hydraulic car hoist so i'm not going to be doing it in the driveway! But i've never changed a clutch before... he has though. Are they any different to changing a standard clutch? Also while the geabox is down is there anything else i should change? like bearings or anything... if so, what, and where would i get the parts? Can't wait to get the power to the road! Thanks Andrew

Which Clutch to choose
GiJOr33 replied to paulgts-t's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
a mate of mine has an Ogura Clutch in his 300ZX... and it's either on or off!!! i don't know if the flywheel has anything to do with it, but it's a bitch to drive... i'll look into it though... -
Which Clutch to choose
GiJOr33 replied to paulgts-t's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain

Drifting Techniques Part 1 by Doctor Drift

i've got Potenza Shocks... but standard (or very close to standard) springs... i'm gonna get it lowered another inch i think -
Will a Twin Plate clutch like a Nismo or OS Giken from a GTR fit the RB25DET in an R33 GTS25t? Thanks Andrew
-
I've used Bendix Metal Kings... not bad. Although i think they are for towing (pulling up big loads)... and your brakes will squeak... one thing that pissed me right off! Andrew

I'm east as well... in Camberwell (not as east as Ringwood or Lilydale) Andrew

but once i do the engine, i'll start shredding gears as the standard gear box won't hold up. And that just starts getting very expensive. Although i could have it detuned to 320kw and drive it round with the extra torque, and it would also help the turbo spool up earlier than 4000rpm
-
That's what i was thinking of doing. But i think it will be all too expensive, i'm probably better off just spending the money and getting a supra! (skyline looks way better though )
-
crazy... well i fried my clutch today in a race with my mates 300ZX TT and some guy in a 180SX. So now i have to get a new one... twin plate for sure. I wish my car made boost at 2500rpm. Although the car needs a tune badly so that might make a difference to spool time. I have a Greddy Profec B boost controller and there is a knob on it called Balance that has mild (all the way to the left) and sharp (all the way to the right)... what does this knob actually do? cos it's set 3/4 of the way to sharp. Is it something to do with how the boost is delivered? cost at 4200rpm it's like someone has switched the power to On and you can here it rip and spool. Thanks Andrew
-
oh.... and how do you go with scraping your front bumper? my car is hardly lowered yet i scrape it on everything... it's just the R33 Type M bar. I want to lower the car more, but i'm not going to be able to drive it anyway if i do! Is that a UAS front GTR lookalike bumper? looks better on the car than in the pictures. And does it sit a little higher than the standard r33 type m bar? cheers, andrew

sweet as... i think i've got a HKS 3040 turbo as well. It all came with the car (had it a month, the old skyline got stolen). Injectors, Fuel pump, HKS FCONV, HKS VPC, dunno what wastegate or exhaust... i'll have to have a good look at what's on there once i've finished exams. When does your turbo spool up? Mine starts at around 4200rpm. Cheers, Andrew
