  1. what kind of place has an engineer? Are they special mechanics? We just call them Cert shops in NZ where a Low Volume Vehicle Certifier checks over your car and its modifications, eg suspension, exhaust, air bag suspension etc etc and if its at legal height and not a dodgy install he certifies it and puts a fancy little plate on your fire wall with the mods engraved. Is it the same here? I need to find out the ins and outs of this sorta stuff, its so much stricter in this country Cant build a 300kw car on your learners plates and legally drive it to school here
  2. This thread just goes around in circles Ive done one oil change in my Rb20 so far and i used Castrol Edge 25-50, prob a bit high considering it was rebuilt a few years ago. Not sure what the last owner used but im thinking of going fully syn, i guess 5-30 or something next. Going from one extreme to the next wont affect the engine to much or at all? It is only a daily, no track, just the odd blat and whip here and there. I read on google somewhere that Mobil ! has deteriorated over the last few years and is no longer one of the top performers as they are about making money not quality oil and Castrol has boosted advertising like there's no tomorrow stating they are the best... Not to sure about that
  3. Ive been looking for something like this thread for a long time! its exactly what a skyline needs if your running a pod, that cold air is quite important! But, isnt it illegal to drill that hole in the position where you did? (So ive been told) I have two 3" holes in my 32, currently occupied by the intercooler pipes but it would be nice to get some sorta setup working in there before my next tune
  4. Apparently cutting holes in the walls around washer bottle, or under battery tray in those "structural" areas are illegal and turn your car into a write off? I wanted to cut a small hole under the battery tray in that side wall where the tow hook is in my R32 to run piping through for a front facing plenum but a tuner / mechanic scared me off the idea... So im not so sure any more about cutting random holes
  5. all high performance jap cars bonnets are light, Evo's, STI's, GTR's Honda Type R & NSX they are all light alloy bonnets and it would be difficult to find an off the shelf CF bonnet genuine or not to be significantly lighter than them. Especially one that would be considered legal or even safe enough for the road. I would consider 10-13kg light, I bet my gts-t bonned weighs an excess of 20kg hahaha actually does anybody have an idea in the weight lol?
  6. Can someone fill me in or help me with some info, I cant find anywhere about adjustable suspension laws, do you need a engineers report or something riveted to your fire wall? or can you just put em in yourself and its legal as long as your 100mm off the ground. i dont want my car more illegal than it already is and Vic police are pretty strict Also Im pretty sure you can get adjustable's rebuilt? if you got a bargain price and one needed a new seal or something i dont think it costs to much. could always be an option but it is a hassle I guess
  7. And lets be honest Hanaldo... If "pressure zones using R&D were so critical with engine bay temps for a normal daily road cars, why do you see so many cars driving with say no bonnets, aka rotaries and hot rods etc, so many drive with out bonnets to 1- show off and 2 - keep engine bay temps down. Ive never seen a car with over heating issues from using a C/F bonnets in various designs on any car if you have your cooling systems working good. I recon 9 times out of 10 they are only for looks thats it. My sti bonnet weighed 13kg and my Cf bonnet for it weighed 11 kg there wasnt much in it so really theres no weight advantage unless you go twin layer CF or so which would be no use for the road because of crumple factors in a crash. im just going on facts of what ive seen and heard, obviously i havent owned every cf bonnet in the world but at the same time in NZ they are very common and its not hard to see and talk to people about their experiences.
  8. as long as your radiators getting sufficient air flow and working really well and your oil is staying cool if its meaning getting a bigger core and moving it to get more air flow then you shouldnt have any problems with "Air pressure" being an issue. Its not like im wanting to do superlap around eastern creak and every bit of R&D for carbon bonnets is vital for my engines survival, especially for a daily driving car. That said all Im after is to get the temp in the engine bay down so the intake isnt chocking itself. I personally dont think it matters where vents are as long as it works temp wise and you dont get water damage to coil packs.
  9. So the diagnosis results are 23 - Water temperature sensor & 25 - Sunload sensor (small sensor on the left hand side of the dashboard near the windscreen) The temps were saying 27 30, 28 30 or something, it didnt look out of the normal. Im assuming the temp sensor is the one at the bottom of the radiator?? as the other water temp sensor works well because the Apexi is connected to it. and surley it wouldnt matter if the sun sensor was working. what to do
  10. Ive always used normal cheap spray paint for some reason heat hasn't affected em. Tho I don't do track or anything. My last car I painted em Baby blue/green and printed some Project Mu decals, glued them on lol looked sick! Peps at the car show thought they were real haha this was a Evo with bremebo brakes tho btw. Gotta love painted brakes so simple yet so affective.
  11. If you need to adjust them ou need to do it on the car or how can you see where it's pointing? I just did Myne last week because my lows were pointing at the ground. Was piss easy. All you need is either a ratchet spanner or a small socket set size 8 I think. squeeze it in there and turn away. It dosnt take much to adjust alot of direction. Only thing is you need to get that machine to get the levels really accurate I just did it on a wall in the dark.
  12. Oh true there ya go then. I'm running big camber in the rear to allow my wheels to tuck when going over bumps. They not going to last long at all wish I had justies so could push em back out a bit. Standard shocks just don't cut the mustard
  13. It wasnt working when i brought my R32. its an issue that frustrates me a bit especially on days like today... 32 outside 4000 deg inside Ive read through this thread and ill give it a crack. Im just not sure if the compressor or the fans are working or if anything actually works. My unit comes on with A/C etc and my Apexi shows me when its on or off, but nothing else happens even the revs dont change so i duno whats up. Is there any places in Melbourne anyone would recommend to get it re-gassed or just fixed lol if i dont have any luck from this thread.
  14. correct me if im wrong but Im pretty sure you get camber adjustment on the pillow mounts up top (front only) to some degree. I had BC golds in my evo a couple years ago and they handled like a dream. probably better than the Teins i had in the previous car. Do you need to get a cert plate or something for after market suspension in Victoria to make them legal?
  15. TOYO R888 Semi slicks if your that way inclined lol Or Toyo T1R's and GoodYear Eagle F1's Hands down... F1 is a old tyre but over the many years has proved its worth as one of the best. Last I heard they were stopping production of the F1. Dunlop Direzza are pretty good aswell but apparently wears pretty quick Ive had the F1's coming off the rim almost before loosing traction on the corners. nothing better i recon
  16. Im more or less comparing a CF vented bonnet to the standard aluminium GTS-t bonnet. Those Nismo bonnets would work really well id imagine
  17. Yea they are crap! Ive just recently put a HID kit in, works mint but the globes need to be adjusted properly. I put a 8000k in and have had no troubles or looks from the po po. I guess you could go 6000k as thats the legal brightness your allowed. but as GH05T said HID aint approved. Then again half ya cars illegal in some way or another The kits come out piss easy and you could have your original bulbs back in, in about 5 mins if it came to that.... My A/C and fan buttons etc dont light up, any recommendations for that?
  18. 1 - Where are you finding carbon bonnets for sale? let alone cheaper than stock aluminium ones?? I can only see 1 in total (in oz) on ebay And another thing, This is my first skyline, I have owned the R32 gtst for about 5 months and im slowly building it up to a nicely modified daily... But I cant get over how much hot air the engine has to suffer! The pod is stuck behind the head light chocking itself, and I could cook an egg on the intercooler piping/manifold it gets so hot its crazy and a serious power kill to the wheels not to mention. There has to be a better way? Ive been considering a carbon bonnet for a while, not so much for the looks, but basically to let out all the nasty trapped hot air under the hood. Not knowing much about skylines, I haven't considered potential water damage i wouldn't of thought it would be an issue. Evos have it sused, vented bonnet above manifold to let hot air escape and get good air flow through out engine bay, and the intake can be directed to either down behind the bumper or behind the headlight with a huge insulated duct going up through the guard to keep that flow of cold air. Why couldn't skylines be the same
  19. Hey man just came about this topic, I have the same type plenum and wanting to get it put on, im just not sure how the piping goes. Did you cut a hole in the wall under the battery box for it to go through and return? or go completely under the wall possibly under the bottom rad hose and around... So confused I heard that putting a hole in the wall makes your car a write off if the gov does a roady check
  20. Hey I own a R32 GTST and have a custom RB20det plenum made up, its just a stock one with a pipe welded at the front converting it to a front facing plenum. I already have the blizt return setup, works ok but i want less piping to decrease lag and increase cooling. As Ben explained that style of plenum may mix up the air ratios, ive been told that by one tuner (who actually has a bad rep i found out). And another tuner Ben @ RacePace said the plenum will work well and that theory of un-even air distribution aka leaning out 6th cylinder is a myth. So Im keen to use the plenum and ditch the blitz return setup for a full custom setup. One big question im a little concerned about, Cutting a hole in the bottom wall that's under the battery tray. (to bring the intercooler piping around and through the hole up to the plenum rather than between the radiator and engine). Is this allowed? I was told that your car becomes a write off as its a "Chassis Alteration" even tho its a small 3" hole say. and you cannot see it unless inspected. Im sure im not the only one wondering whether this is allowed or not... or maybe i am lol anyway if theres any info about this issue or any of my custom setup please let me know. Cheers
  21. Hey man, Nice 32! curious as to how you piped up your intercooler, did you cut a hole under the battery tray or come up from under the radiator hoses? Good luck with the sale mate
  22. Ok my turn lol Full forged engine, Garrett GT2871 Nismo 550cc inj spitfire coil pack denzo 270lph pump exeedy hd clutch blitz fmic blitz boost controller APEXI FC pod full 3" exhaust from turbo inc hks dump pipe Z32 AFM few other minor things right lol ummm 213rwkw on 22psi currently in the process to correct setup from previous owner to hopefully get a decent dyno result. aiming for 280ish rwkw
